To think "The Traitors" is the biggest load of guff on TV?

It's stupid. There's no game at the heart of it. It's like Deal Or No Deal for prime time.

The opera singer. The gasps, “that was sooo stressful”….

Ohh that's Linda, isn't it?

I neither love nor hate it so no skin off my nose but you posted on AIBU and seem displeased that some people enjoy it and have reasons for it. Nobody is making you watch it. It’s trashy TV but after a hard day, sometimes I want to watch trash.

I am not displeased that people watch it. I am asking them why they do.

Well, bless your little heart. I'm sure your boyfriend loves your lack of curiosity. It's sweet, it really is.

Thank you 😊

TBH this is the first series I've watched and I'm not sure if I will stick with it. The crying is annoying me. I can understand why people get hooked on it though.

The first two series were better, from what I've seen of the first 2 episodes, fewer faux dramatics and pseudo-hysterics.

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 22:29

Bleachbum · 02/01/2025 22:22

There is a benefit though. In order to win the cash. Have you watched a series from start to finish? If not, watch the last series.

At the start it is all a bit random as no-one has anything to go on. It gets much more strategic as the game progresses. The faithfuls get an idea of who a traitor is but mustn’t play their card too early for fear of being murdered. Also the traitors need to turn on each other eventually in order to throw the scent off themselves and also so they don’t need to share the cash at the end.

It is a fascinating and entertaining watch.

But losing a traitor at this stage just means another one takes their place.

And faithfuls are killed for random reasons.

There's no skill in it but the contestants act as if there is, just as in Deal Or No Deal.

How does Claudia make fingerless gloves, wellies and a tweed cape as a combo look elegant?

Why does anyone watch anything? Personally I watch it because I enjoy it

@MasterBeth You REALLY seem to be struggling to accept that some people like The Traitors. Asking why people like it, and then when they tell you, you're arguing with them and trying to tell them they're wrong.

And you keep making snarky little comments and jibes when people say anything defending the show, and explaining why they like it...... 😆

We get it, you don't like it, but many people do. Leave them be, and just let them enjoy it, without arrogant and snarky comments demanding to know WHY, and telling them how WRONG they are!

Are you this hard work in real life? You actually sound angry about people liking something YOU don't like! Seriously, chill! It's not that deep! 😎

Don't watch it. Simples! Smile

Am I the only one who gets annoyed with the deluge of ‘people like different things - who knew’ posts? Yes. Obviously. It’s a hugely popular programme.

Sometimes it’s cathartic to rip into something you’ve seen and gauge others’ views. I know when I’ve been reading a spectacularly shite book I make a beeline for Amazon or Goodreads and love reading a review that captures my feelings.

Nothing to do with looking down on people who do like whatever it is I can’t stand either.

Sasskitty · 02/01/2025 22:31

I like it.

Particularly enjoyed watching the new first section on the train - where 3 people had to get off but what 3 people. Fascinating. The carriage where one guy mentioned he might think about it. Resulting in the rest of the pack immediately smelling blood.. well… if you think you should go… Human nature / pack mentality / survival in action.

lolly792 · 02/01/2025 22:32

@MasterBeth you're asking why people watch it.

I watch it because it's an easy watch at the end of the working day. And it can be fascinating to see the groupthink and how contestants sway each others opinions.

Why do you watch it?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/01/2025 22:32

Soontobe60 · 02/01/2025 21:22

You do know it’s all made up? A load of wannabe actors hoping to become the next big thing. Utter trash.

Isn't that what most reality TV is though? Love Island is the biggest load of wank ever, I can't actually believe it's so popular. But it is. I assume people watch it KNOWING the people taking part are just trying to get famous by projecting a certain image or developing a certain reputation, but just accept it anyway. I just don't accept it. It's all fake crap and fake people really unnerve me.

MuddlingMackem · 02/01/2025 22:32

I love it. If you like people it’s fascinating and brilliant. Couldn’t get on with the American one at all, very screechy, but the U.K. one is the nuts.

I also like the masked singer 😂

Check out the Australian one as well if you haven't already!

It's a TV phenomenon. I am seeking to understand why. Your own lack of perception about me tells me that there is not some layer of psychological insight that I might be missing.

I don't understand where you are finding the drama. The contestants act like there is some but, at the heart of it, there isn't.

There is no way to identify a traitor. It's just a guess. So accusing someone of being a traitor is unproblematic. It's not an insult or a slur. It's random. And you can just be killed at random too.

It’s not meant to be an insult or a slur. Incorrectly accusing someone of being a traitor is problematic as you haven’t eliminated one. They are still at large and you need to whittle them down. The traitors can recruit a new one but as the game progresses they are less likely to as they won’t want to share the prize. Also, guessing a newly recruited traitor becomes easier as their behaviour changes.

Oneofusisdead · 02/01/2025 21:57

I agree, I don't understand why it's so massively hyped and gets so much press coverage. We're all supposed to love it - like Bake Off, which I do love! - but it's so banal.

And I know I'm being a bad feminist, but why has Claudua Winkleman reduced herself to a bad caricature. I had the too long fringe and too much black eyeliner look when I was 16, why is a grown woman looking at the world through a bloody fringe? I can't help thinking that she's writing terrible poetry about how no one understands her.

Claudia's look is a brand. She probably doesn't really need it any more but I bet a distinctive look paired with a distinctive presenting style helped her break through and become successful. The exact opposite to Tess Daly.

I bet she can easily pin the fringe back and wash the eyeliner off and go about her normal life as well.

Yes, at this stage there is no skill, that was my point. It’s as the game progresses that it becomes strategic.

But you're not "whittling them down". There are three of them. There will still be three of them if you find one because they'll recruit another one

It's only at the very final stage when you are legitimately losing traitors

I’m a bit of a Tv connoisseur and I couldn’t get into it… I guess it’s one of them things. There’s shows I love but others don’t…just the way of life… if we all liked the same things the world would be a boring place.

How does it become strategic? The only strategy is "don't behave like how you think a a traitor might behave which, if you are sensible, if how you would behave anyway."

I really enjoy it, it's the only reality TV I've watched since the earlier series of Big Brother.

I'd be a terrible contestant - I'd try my best to turn everyone against the cryers, screamers and huggers and I'd be very unexcitable.
