To think "The Traitors" is the biggest load of guff on TV?

It's stupid. There's no game at the heart of it. It's like Deal Or No Deal for prime time.

I love The Traitors - it’s people watching on steroids. We all think we’re amazing judges of character, we all think we’d be great at spotting the traitors, the joy is in watching people doing the people watching, and in watching people being given permission to be the traitor and seeing how much they’re willing to compromise their friendships etc.

Also, how can you think it’s the biggest load of guff on tv when you’ve got Tipping Point on itv?! Fair enough you don’t like it, but out of all the guff there is, it is objectively not the guffiest.

Edit - I wrote their instead of they’re 🙈

Fair enough. Is it just the UK one you don't like? The Aussie one is great.

I haven't seen the Aussie version. I think the entire format of the game is fatally flawed, though. There is no actual benefit in finding a traitor

Love The Traitors.

MermaidMummy06 · 02/01/2025 21:41

We had it here in Aus for two seasons, then cancelled. I enjoyed the first season as the contestants were excellent & varied & included all sorts of people.

The second season I (& everyone else) switched off as it was overshadowed by one narcissistic contestant & some D grade celebs only there for exposure & not to play the game properly. I did peek at the ending & it was ridiculous that one contestant said no to sharing, so all three got nothing! I did enjoy seeing the narc boy traitor whine because 'he earned it & she should have just let him have it by saying yes, when she knew he'd say no!' 🙄

It wasn't a bad show for mindless watching, but once they screwed with the casting style it lost me.

FiveFoxes · 02/01/2025 21:41

Not sure why people think it's no brain TV? It's fascinating watching how people react to each other and trying to work out the moves you'd make if you were them.

The people are coming across as extremely annoying at the moment. I'm hoping they settle down and stop crying soon.

I'm pretty sure it's not fake competition though - BBC sells it as real and would get into serious trouble if it isn't.

Same concept really so I'm sure you wouldn't like them either then.

I think there are a lot of worse things on TV than The Traitors. Doctor Who is absolutely atrocious for a start. Mrs browns boys, the new revival of You Bet was terrible. At least the production and the scenery for The Traitors is decent!

I have to agree with Doctor Who. One of the best shows on TV turned into a load of unwatchable woke nonsense. Horrific. I refuse to watch it any more. Didn't watch the Christmas episode, and have no intention of doing so.

I will never watch Doctor Who post early 2020s again. And most people I know say the same. The fans have left it in droves.

I used to like Mrs Browns Boys, but this past few years, it's depended hugely on smut, nob gags, comments about sex/peoples sexual parts etc to be 'funny.' Tedious.

.

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 21:44

not to play the game properly

How would you play the game properly? There is no gameplay. It's all random bollocks. You can't control any of it. It's all built in the edit.

But it's like watching an hour of people tossing a coin. Where's the game? It's an hour of... nothing. What are you watching?

dont watch it then!

aodirjjd · 02/01/2025 21:45

My partner loves it. I started to get into series 1 but I stopped liking it as soon as I realised that they were “recruiting” new traitors and realised logically (ok I’m slow) they will always keep doing that otherwise if they actually voted the traitors out the show could be over in 3 episodes so there’s actually no advantage to them finding traitors they may as well just vote people they don’t like out till the last round.

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 21:46

Yes!

Lougle · 02/01/2025 21:46

I find it fascinating because everyone thinks they're playing a good game, and some people think they're fooling everyone but they're quite transparent. But then they get so caught up in the possibility of double or triple bluffs, that they can't untangle it and they're accusing people for blinking at the wrong moment!

I couldn't go on this sort of show. I wouldn't want to lie and I couldn't accuse people if I wasn't sure. Blink murder is bad enough!!

aodirjjd · 02/01/2025 21:46

I also think the mini games are rubbish and it would be more fun if the traitors had an incentive to sabotage each game. Like if there was an additional seperate prize pot for traitors,

I love it. Mainly cos Ant and fucking Dec are absent 🤣

ForAzureSeal · 02/01/2025 21:48

I hated it at first (first episode) and then it hooked me in after a couple of episodes. The psychology of it is fascinating - how groups turn on people, the overconfidence of people, others crumbling. If you don't like that kind of thing then fair enough.

I've now watched all countries' versions in English. In my opinion the UK ones are the best. And seem a lot less produced than others. USA one is worst. New Zealand is good.

Beekeepingmum · 02/01/2025 21:48

I quite enjoy it but I agree the underlying concept is a bit pointless - there never seems to that much logic to how it pans out.

I disagree. Even with Noel, Deal Or No Deal was shite. And Goldenballs was hilariously dreadful! No wonder it only lasted a couple of years.

Mylittlepea · 02/01/2025 21:49

And actually Mrs Browns boys wins the prize for biggest pile of shite on TV. How that utter crap is broadcast on prime TV is baffling

MasterBeth · 02/01/2025 21:49

and trying to work out the moves you'd make if you were them.

There are no moves you should make, though. There's no strategy.

OP posts:
FiveFoxes · 02/01/2025 21:51

I think that you have to work out who the Traitors are and befriend them so they don't murder you whilst simultaneously keeping everyone else inside. The traitors have to be voted out at the right time and you have to have the right influence to do that. It's not about voting out Traitors, it's about playing the other players.

TerroristToddler · 02/01/2025 21:51

Also think it's shite. Tried to get into it last time as everyone was talking about it but only managed a few episodes before I gave up. There's no real game to it, and it's not like watching people in their natural state either so it's not like reality TV either. It's odd.

I also can't stand bloody winkleman so that is a big reason why I can't watch it! No idea why exactly but she irritates me beyond belief!

Edited

It was HUGELY popular though. Biggest Christmas audience for many years on the trot. A lot of people loved it. As I said, I did. I don't like it now though. It's had its day. I also like The Traitors. Some people (like the OP) hate it.

People like different things. WHO KNEW!!!!!!!!!!!! Smile

But they can still just murder you.

And when is "the right time" to get rid of a traitor? There isn't one.
