PostpartumMama · 01/01/2025 23:37

Not really an AIBU but just posting for traffic

I am getting so cross & fed up now. We are on day 10 of the Flu in our house. Kids first, then DH & I.

Such a waste of the last week. Anyone else that has had this bad flu, fed up!!

Not even sure why I'm posting this.. guess I'm getting a bit sick of being stuck in the house with no1 knew to speak to lol x

DH had the jab in October, has got it now. Nasty. I didn't get the jab, can only cross my fingers for a miracle!

Covidwoes · 02/01/2025 13:22

So many of my friends have come down with this. Miraculously my family have escaped it so far. Both DDs are vaccinated thankfully, so hopefully that may help a bit if it does come our way.

BreatheAndFocus · 02/01/2025 17:05

Yes, we have flu here too 😢 One DC got it first, then passed it on to me and the other DCs. We tested and it’s influenza A. Effing horrible virus! I was lying in bed last night just crying because I felt so ill and weak. I keep getting waves of nausea too. Now got the most painful earache. It’s ruined our holiday and I feel so sad for the DC. One of them was so ill with it that I thought I was going to have to take them to A&E.

Our symptoms were high fever, chills, sweats (particularly at night), awful aching (back, hips, knees, calf muscles and arms), dry cough, unbelievable sneezing, vomiting (for the DC), earache, dizziness, brain fog - and more.

I highly recommend the test kits. It made me feel a bit better to know what we were dealing with. BTW, I had the flu vax and still got it. I thought I’d escaped it because I had symptoms for 24hrs, then thought it had gone, but it came back with a vengeance. I think the trick is to rest as much as possible. Each time I’ve tried to do something, eg wash the dishes or even just go upstairs, I seem to feel worse.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 02/01/2025 17:09

I’ve had the flu jab and still got flu, the most ill I’ve felt for years!

It’s awful because it really does wipe you out and goes on for ages, you have my sympathies.

I work in a hospital and there are bays closing on the wards and areas partitioned off in A&E due to flu and norovirus. It’s grim!

Simbaonedaythiswillallbeyours · 02/01/2025 17:22

I've been wiped out since Christmas Day evening with flu. I have never been so ill in my life. Fever, sweats, headache, nausea, body aches, hacking cough and a throat like sandpaper. Only just starting to feel better today.
111 said the flu vaccine I had in September has reduced how bad the symptoms could have been - without it I would be in hospital.

My understanding is that vaccines don't always stop you catching flu, but they can help your body fight new strains more easily. Its just part of how they work. No vaccine is 100%, but its so much better than doing nothing.

PostpartumMama · 02/01/2025 19:30

Yes my kids were tested in hospital last week and it came back FLU A.. so assuming it was the same for DH & I.

Anyone have a toothache symptom by any chance? Or is this just a new thing I've got now🥴😩 I am sick of popping paracetamol into me

So sorry to hear so many of you are also suffering.. you have my sympathies

It's H1N1

HelenaWaiting · 02/01/2025 23:31

HelenaWaiting · 02/01/2025 23:25

It's H1N1

Apologies, my phone lost it then - It's H1N1, the most common seasonal flu. Nasty, but for most should be gone in 2 weeks. If you are expecting you do need to contact your GP - It's responsive to Tamiflu but only prescribed for expectant mums. It is further complicated by RSV - looking into the possibility that one is piggybacking onto the other as some reported flu symptoms are atypical. Rest, fluids - you know the drill. Codeine can be helpful if the joint pains are unbearable.

swingandtrampoline · 03/01/2025 00:02

Isn't H1N1 Swine flu? Yes tamiflu is the answer to that.

bumblebee1000 · 03/01/2025 01:07

Not flu, but seems to be a horrible virus going around...lasts for weeks, comes and goes.....we have all had it for over a month now....minor sore throat, aching, feeling tired....you think its gone and then a few days later its back again, so many friends also had or have it.

HelenaWaiting · 03/01/2025 04:02

swingandtrampoline · 03/01/2025 00:02

Isn't H1N1 Swine flu? Yes tamiflu is the answer to that.

H1N1 is a subtype of influenza virus type A. There are several strains - a human endemic strain that is the main cause of seasonal flu; another found in pigs (swine flu) and another in birds (avian flu). All H1N1. The common names (swine flu, bird flu) are misleading because they do not describe the type or subtype but rather the route by which the virus is passed to humans.

CharlotteCChapel · 03/01/2025 05:56

I had the flu a few weeks ago, recovered in time for Christmas bur NYE I went down with a cold that's really nasty, I've been up since just before 4 as my nose is so blocked

PrioritisePleasure24 · 03/01/2025 05:59

I work in A&E we were seeing this flu ( confirmed swabs) weeks ago and it’s been building. It’s also wiped many of the staff out too…. way before the fog and the conspiracy theorists jumping on a new bandwagon 🙄

Whu · 03/01/2025 06:25

The fog thing is insane, why on earth would the government want a sick population? They want people to be at work not ill and using healthcare services. The lack of basic thinking drives me insane.

Covidwoes · 03/01/2025 08:32

@Wakemeuuuup I was at my parents over Christmas, and there was a thick band of fog over where they lived. Honestly, the conspiracy theories on X are getting worse! They actually make me laugh now, such is their ridiculousness.

Curiossir · 03/01/2025 08:34

happy2025 · 02/01/2025 00:52

I've wasted 2 weeks of precious holiday on stupid viral fever and hives! Still feeling wiped out even though it's all over. Will be back to energy levels just in time for work next week. So sad my holidays are wasted! Confused

You can normally claim holiday back if you've been ill during them. Check with your HR.

CandyCane5 · 03/01/2025 12:54

My son is on day 5, I'm anxiously waiting to catch it as it's inevitable I will. It's totally wiped him out.

kikiandgigi · 03/01/2025 17:32

Any recommendations for chest decongestant? Disturbingly I can hear my chest making bubbling/ crackling noises when I breathe.

PostpartumMama · 03/01/2025 21:57

@kikiandgigi My DH was put on an inhaler as he was having a crackling chest and hard of breathing. Turned out to be covid induced asthma. Apparently its a big thing since covid. He gets it everytime he is unwell now. He uses the inhaler and it opens his airways, lessens the bubble/crackling feeling

This Flu and the aftermath of it is horrendous 😩 I haven't even such painful sinuses.

How is everyone else doing

I have such painful sinuses is what I was trying to say there 🙈

Thepurplepig · 05/01/2025 22:02

3 weeks of this fucking cough. I spent Christmas and new year in bed. GP not interested so I paid to see a private GP on Friday who gave me antibiotics. In two days it has subsided dramatically. Go and demand antibiotics if you are suffering.

I think the flu jab has been greatly reduced in numbers this year. This is the consequence.

Simbaonedaythiswillallbeyours · 05/01/2025 22:07

Most symptoms are gone but the muscle weakness and exhaustion are something else. I haven't set foot outside the house since I got in from work on Christmas Eve.

I can't even walk upstairs without needing to sit down. Its ridiculous.

PoisonRain · 05/01/2025 22:17

I've posted on loads of these threads now! I'm tons better but I started on Christmas Day, so I'm on day 12 today. Actually I doubted it was flu because compared to how I felt with covid in 2020 it wasn't too bad, there were minimal gastric symptoms and I also don't think I had much of a fever.

But 12 days on and I still have sinus pain, cough (which makes my head pound) and such a raging sore throat still, it's getting boring. I'm coughing up and blowing out green stuff that could win a prize. Still, back to work tomorrow!

lynzmb · 09/01/2025 02:20

I need stories from the other side please...day 14 and cough has almost gone but oh my the fatigue! And I've just woken up in a puddle of sweat - surely this must get better soon 😩
