Friends awful baby name

My best friend is due to have a baby soon, they are having a girl and she has been talking baby names with me, which feels super special. She has got a few very lovely traditional girly names, and a couple of more unusual choices, but not ‘offensive’. They are names I would expect from her. However, she has one absolutely terrible name, that actually just feels very cruel. It would be bad even by American standards and ‘tragedeigh’ names. It’s not that I wouldn’t choose it, it’s just crazy stupid and the child will be ridiculed by peers and adults. Some of her choices are genuinely wonderful, but I’m so worried she will madly choose this one awful name, I can’t say anything can I?!

Tell her you cannot name a child with a virtue name incase they don't live up to it. Like Charity or Lucky IYSWIM

That reminds me of the outstanding Last Tango In Halifax. They had a baby called Calamity Jane, although I think that was just a family thing and she was just Jane on the birth certificate.

I've got a friend called Verity, and she's very nice. I wouldn't object to that name if your friend likes it.

He used to be on Blue Peter a lot. I think they rolled him out when they had nothing much on the show or they'd bath Petra the Alsatian dog!!!

I wonder how it is that some positive virtue names have become very popular and are well-known and accepted as normal - such as Felicity, Verity, Grace, Honor and Constance; whereas others that are equally admirable and desirable - such as Benevolence, Temperance, Continence, Levelheadedness and Warmofheart-Firmofstool - seem somehow weird?

If you are super close best friends, and this is something she has brought up to discuss with you, then of course you can say something. That's the point in discussing things with someone you are close to and presumably someone whose opinion she trusts.

I can't believe people are still trying to get the OP to reveal the name.
Clearly it would be so outing, and really upsetting if the Mother 2B ever saw this (and if the name is unique, they very likely would).

The question is about the principle of whether the OP should say something. The actual proposed name doesn't matter.

I didn't realise he was on Blue Peter a lot :). I think everyone from my generation knew him. Seems an amazing person.
