Anyone else dreading going back to work

I have been off since 20 Dec. Loved spending time at home, walking up late.
I dread going back to work. The meetings, thd deadlines and travelling. Also, the school run.

Atleast it's only 2 days before the weekend.

I'm not looking forward to it either, back on the 6th

hopeishere · 01/01/2025 08:28

Me a bit. I'm planning on easing myself in gently. Going into the office tomorrow - will be the only one in. I have a few deadlines so will get cracking on those. Will start a bit later and end early. Hoping to do a half day on Friday.

My head and heart have not been in it for months.

Zanatdy · 01/01/2025 08:32

Yeah same. I worked until 24th, so only had a few days off but wish i’d booked 2nd and 3rd. Tempted to check who is in and if I can book last minute leave.

Danikm151 · 01/01/2025 08:33

I logged in yesterday to check emails and catch up on a few bits. Dreading tomorrow as it’s the financial year end so will be extra busy.

ssd · 01/01/2025 08:35

I work in retail so working as usual, plus its very busy just now.
Sometimes i envy people getting a 2 week break, other times its good to keep up the routine at a time routine goes out the window.

charabang · 01/01/2025 08:35

I started a new job at the beginning of December and it's incredibly stressful as I don't do change very well. The only thing that was keeping me going was the Christmas break but now I'm really wound up about going back. No annual leave now until March. Zoiks!

TorroFerney · 01/01/2025 08:35

Im treating tomorrow and Friday as easing in days. I think New Year’s Day falling on a Wednesday doesn’t help as it’s just one random day off, better when tagged to a weekend as this feels a bit Dickensian, especially if you’ve worked nye.
I am also telling myself this is normal, this is how I feel every year and trying not to catastrophise!

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 01/01/2025 08:36

I dread the office days, last year I some how managed to get away with only once a month but looking at January it looks to be once a week.

SnappyEmotional · 01/01/2025 08:51

Me too. I don’t feel rested at all with having a small child during the Xmas break. I felt like I was always rushed off my feet.

DH and I joked that we go to work for a holiday!

stargirl1701 · 01/01/2025 09:04

We are in Scotland so the 2nd is bank holiday too, thankfully.

DH back to work on 6th, schools back on 6th and I am back to work on 8th.

Wonderwall23 · 01/01/2025 09:09

I was relieved when I woke up on the 27th and knew I'd booked the day off. But I went back on Monday and I kind of like that it's a quiet 4 day week this week...and a 3 day week next week as have time off covering inset days. So am easing in, but I was really ready for the short break at Christmas and feel like I spent the last two weeks beforehand saying 'let's tackle this in the New Year' so I already know Jan is going to be full on.

Missionimprobable · 01/01/2025 09:11

I'm back tomorrow and dreading it, I'm going into the office to "show willing" but if no-one else is in I'll be going home again.
I'm wfh Friday then I've got the weekend to get my head around getting back to normal.
It's been so nice having some time off, getting up at the same time but chilling out in the mornings, pottering about, lovely

Thegreenandpurpleone · 01/01/2025 09:14

No I’m not dreading it. I do enjoy what I do, we’ll be busy with deadlines as soon as I am back (Monday) and I’ll be up super early for the commute, but it won’t take me long to get back up to speed with things. It’s been a lovely break but I am almost ready to get started again.

Phunkychicken · 01/01/2025 09:15

DH started with flu on 20th, pneumonia on 26th and now vomiting this morning.

i am chronically ill and am waiting for both a hysterectomy and an appointment for a new suspected melanoma of my face (have had 1 and a bcc and 5 pre cancers already)

Christmas has been brutal, I just want to run away and spend a few days in the middle of nowhere in my own but I can’t as need to keep things going for the kids.

And have chosen today to start the diet when I’ve had v little sleep. So yes and totally dreading going back to work as things are kicking off with a bang once I’m back

Sorry to hear your having a rubbish time, I decided a while ago that the diet starts on the 2nd of Jan just to be kind to myself, maybe do the same or perhaps start next week?

PumpkinPie2016 · 01/01/2025 09:21

A bit mixed for me.

I am a teacher so finished on the 20th and go back on the 6th. I realise I am so lucky to have 2 weeks and I have had a wonderful time with DH, DS, catching up with family and friends etc. I've enjoyed not having to dash about constantly and just have time to relax.

That said, I do enjoy my job, despite it being intense. There are lots of things I am looking forward to this term, so that's a positive.
On the other hand, Ofsted are due which isn't exactly fun! Plus, although I like the kids and lots of things about my school, it is quite cliquey staff wise and I don't feel I fit too well. Not looking forward to the early starts!

So, yes, mixed feelings!

My plan is to focus on the things I enjoy about it and try to ignore the cliqueyness- in a way, when you're surrounded by kids, it's actually quite easy to avoid other adults 😂

I am going to do a bit of work over the next few days as well, so that I am prepared, organised and hopefully have a calm start to term.

Greycatclub · 01/01/2025 09:24

Nope! So ready for some normality over here, and some childcare 😂

I literally have a note on my phone that says "Are you catastrophising??" to look at at 2am in the morning when I can't sleep from worrying about work 🤣😳😱 I sympathise!

Kitkat1523 · 01/01/2025 09:27

I like my job….be good to get back to normal and have a bit of a banter when I go back in on Friday….nothing in diary so will be an easy day

QuotetheRaven · 01/01/2025 09:29

Sad to see loads not liking or wanting to work. I'm roaring to get back, love my job, see it more as something to do rather than employment. Will probably spend a few hours clearing the emails tomorrow then bring on 6th Jan!

NeedToChangeName · 01/01/2025 09:30

If it's just post-holiday blues, I expect it'll settle quite quickly

But if you really hate your job, then I'd urge you to consider changing. I am fortunate that I truly enjoy my work. So, although I've had a lovely Christmas break, I'm perfectly content to go back to work. Please understand, I'm not smug. I appreciate how fortunate I am. But, it hasn't always felt this way and I wish I'd changed role earlier

Snowmanscarf · 01/01/2025 09:31

Yes, especially as haven’t got rid of cough yet and still lack energy.

Soccermumamir · 01/01/2025 09:34

Yep same. We've all been off since the 20th and loved doing what we want, when we want. But we do have a holiday to pay for, so I guess I'll have to suck it up lol

StScholastica · 01/01/2025 09:36

I've worked right through, NHS, love working Xmas as get to wear my festive headband and spread a bit of festive cheer. Also the roads are so much quieter when everyone is not working.
It is very hard establishing a routine when the kids go back though.

timetodecide2345 · 01/01/2025 09:38

Not keen to go back but I started hating my job last year. I should change but I'm holding out for voluntary severance and will hopefully go then.
