Ohmigod, I'm reading this in New Zealand - waiting to see if
A. She stole it or
B. She stole it.......
Any updates I have missed??!
P.S Happy New Year. Your "friend" sounds like someone you could do without.
Did you get an invite to her wedding BTW?

Bananaram · 01/01/2025 06:44

Here for the update 🍿

ForOliveOP · 01/01/2025 06:51

A very traditional mumsnet “best friendship”

ie they despise one another.

@Vodkafairy99
I’m in two minds about this…

a) she stole it and kept it
b) she stole it and sold it

I’d be looking for airwraps for sale with a really small location close to mate’s home on Gumtree and FB marketplace. (Also eBay). If you find it with her contact details or her DH’s or mother’s, etc, get someone else to phone up and make an appointment to collect it, Cash on Delivery and record the phone call. Then turn up with video rolling at the appointment time to collect it.

Strictlymad · 01/01/2025 07:00

I’m here and waiting for the blue carpet update, are there pics of the hotel lobby on the website?

ThatKhakiMoose · 01/01/2025 07:01

It was insanely cheeky of her to ask to borrow such a hugely expensive item in the first place. Everyone knows that Dyson hair tools are like the Crown Jewels. There was really no need for it. I'm sure her regular hair tool would have been just fine.

I have a suggestion for anyone who gets asked to lend out something expensive: "Oh, goodness, no! I value our friendship far too highly to lend you something so valuable."

Or if it's not so expensive but just something sentimental or something that you really like, just substitute "something I like so much/something that means so much to me" for "something so valuable."

I think this is an elegant way of saying no. They can't really argue with it, and they can't be displeased because you've just paid them a compliment.

here for the update 😆

Not sure if anyone else has said this but I would definitely be checking social media today to see if you can see what she's been up to for New Year's Eve. If she hasn't sold it she will have the best hair last night!

I’d be checking her social media for pictures from NYE to see how good her hair looks 😜

Ttcagainnow · 01/01/2025 07:45

Wow just read thread one and I'm so shocked that a friend would do this! Hope you get it sorted op

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 01/01/2025 07:46

No updates and six pages in. Adding another post so I can keep up.

OP--I truly do hope she "finds" your Dyson or you are able to get it replaced.

I am also hoping to read that she texts you with, "Well, mercy me! It wasn't left at the hotel after all! It was on my vanity, but I just didn't see it during all of this time...."

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 01/01/2025 07:49

Here for the juice.

Silvertulips · 01/01/2025 08:15

I read your first one and wasn’t surprised she’s making excuse’s. I’d would be frantically apologizing for losing your air wrap!

If you are such good friends why weren’t you invited to the wedding and could’ve shared the thing on the day?

Seems strange, close enough to borrow but not close enough to attend.

I would go to the hotel and ask in person and speak to a manager stating she’s accusing the staff of stealing.

this friendship is so over. Dont let this go OP.

fairytailcat · 01/01/2025 08:41

In would have to find the £500 or use a credit card

I couldn't live with the guilt of knowing i had lost something so valuable

Langarg · 01/01/2025 08:44

Morning all

I received an incoherent text message from my friend at about 3.15am (clearly drunk) rambling on about how she valued our friendship so much but couldn’t help but feel this whole situation had taken the shine off her wedding! The absolute cheek of it! She went on to say she will sort this out and hopes it can be ‘left in 2024’

I have a feeling she’s read here and is trying to make me feel guilty. Why else would she say it’s taken the shine off the wedding other than to try and make me feel bad?! Or have I become cynical?

Dhdvl · 01/01/2025 08:44

Invested in this

EmpressOfTheThread · 01/01/2025 08:46

Dyson hair tools are like the Crown Jewels 😂
I like it!
"Taken the shine off the wedding", there was no wedding really, weren't they just married with 2 witnesses?

Pedallleur · 01/01/2025 08:46

Isn't the friend going to the hotel on the 2nd to ask about it? We all know she is backed into a corner so she pays/replaces or just says not my fault I am not replacing it. Of course she could have ordered a new one ready to send back if necessary (some of you would happily accept a used/refurbished/fake) but she won't have. She is hoping the lender is going to back down. OP DO NOT do that. It was yours, you treated yourself and this CF will be laughing behind your back.

Because you getting back the £500 equipment that she stole from you will ”ruin her wedding day.” Don’t let her guilt trip you into letting this go. Manipulative twunt.

Figgygal · 01/01/2025 08:47

The friendship is dead
You dont need that Cheeky fucker op

JustMyView13 · 01/01/2025 08:48

Oh so this is the card she’s playing. Interesting.

Well, lucky for her her wedding came with a nice life lesson on treating peoples borrowed things more carefully. An expensive lesson. But also very much a 2025 problem given you’re still without the airwrap.

Airwrapgate continues…

See my post. She is trying to get out of it. It was yours, it was expensive. Now is the time for her to replace it whilst they are on offer. Maybe she can start a GoFundMe and all those who believe she can get a Marketplace one can chip in

Shes guilt tripping you now, took the shine off her wedding bull shit, that's to make u back down.
DO NOT let this go, you want that hair dryer back or replaced.
I think hairdresser for the wedding would of been the cheaper option for your friend!
