Would you have given Uber eats guy a thumbs down

And a bad review?

Ordered a pizza for tonight from Uber eats, tracked on phone and received message the same as always saying your delivery is here, no need to meet (I always put in the delivery instructions to please open our gate and leave in front of the front door-they usually do this no problem) We have a dog who goes nuts if someone beeps/knocks etc and Dd is in bed.
I opened door to get it and it wasn’t there, then received 10-15 minutes asking where the house was, he couldn’t find it, he was at such and such a place. Dh went walking down the road then over to the back of the house. Heard nothing of him, messaged asking where is the pizza please as it must be getting cold now. He replied that he’d gone as couldn’t find us and we’d have to go to the meeting point where he was. Dh getting a bit pissed off by this point, going in and out in the cold and dog trying to run out barking.
Dh went out again to find, guy comes up on his mororbike, starts shouting to Dh that he’s been waiting?!
Dh comes in annoyed, pizza is almost stone cold.
The review part comes up, I press thumbs down and tick three of the negative comments-bad communication, had to meet him and something else.

I never press the thumbs down or negative comments, only ever a thumbs up and positive comments if they’re particularly speedy etc or nothing if it’s a but late as I just leave it

Would you have done this?

I had to deliver some "letters from Santa" from DS school around the actual estate I live in, and I still couldn't find some of the houses!! Shows that Google Maps doesn't correctly identity all houses, one house I found just by chance of walking past it, and it was no where near where Google maps said!!! So I have some sympathy with the driver, however could he not have rung you if he couldn't find the address? That's what has happened to me before when we've had food delivered to work place which has multiple entrances.

Yes it was. He gets about £2 a delivery and potentially not many deliveries at all as the market is saturated with drivers, was probably just as stressed as you about not being able to find your address, contacted you about trying a different way of getting it to you and then you decide you will leave a bad review which affects restaurants using him.

Uber Eats and all the others should be forced to pay at least minimum wage. It’s currently an abusive system where the drivers/cyclists etc can be out all hours in all weather for a pittance. A lot of the delivery guys are illegally working on someone else’s ID. I would never use them or their ilk myself. Better to use a company who deliver themselves.

The drivers don't see the thumbs down. They have no way of linking their reviews to a specific customer. They only see averages.

If your average drops after you've done a particularly bad delivery, you'll know who it was, just like if you look at your own Uber passenger rating if you use the taxi app, you can see work out which driver knocked you down a mark.

No, I wouldn't have done that. And definitely not on New Year's Eve Sad
I simply wouldn't have left a review.

I think a few people are confusing OPs opening post
received message the same as always saying your delivery is here, no need to meet (I always put in the delivery instructions to please open our gate and leave in front of the front door-they usually do this no problem) We have a dog who goes nuts if someone beeps/knocks etc and Dd is in bed.

OPs instructions to uber eats are: 'please open our gate and leave at the front door'

OP received this message from the driver 'your delivery is here, no need to meet me'

OP opened the front door to find the food was not here and there was no driver

OPs DH then went out and spent 15 minutes back and forth with the driver who insisted the DH come and meet him as he couldn't find the house. By this time, food was cold

Seems straightforward mess up to me. I had this once where they insisted I never showed up to meet them when I'd put the delivery as my house. The driver was apparently tracked via GPS to the postcode area so uber eats would not refund it. My postcode area is a very long street so not sure that proved anything

I don't use them anymore!

That’s good! Then, yanbu to thumbs down OP. Like you say, it’s fair enough he was frustrated he couldn’t find your home but he shouldn’t have yelled at your husband.
