Would you have given Uber eats guy a thumbs down

And a bad review?

Ordered a pizza for tonight from Uber eats, tracked on phone and received message the same as always saying your delivery is here, no need to meet (I always put in the delivery instructions to please open our gate and leave in front of the front door-they usually do this no problem) We have a dog who goes nuts if someone beeps/knocks etc and Dd is in bed.
I opened door to get it and it wasn’t there, then received 10-15 minutes asking where the house was, he couldn’t find it, he was at such and such a place. Dh went walking down the road then over to the back of the house. Heard nothing of him, messaged asking where is the pizza please as it must be getting cold now. He replied that he’d gone as couldn’t find us and we’d have to go to the meeting point where he was. Dh getting a bit pissed off by this point, going in and out in the cold and dog trying to run out barking.
Dh went out again to find, guy comes up on his mororbike, starts shouting to Dh that he’s been waiting?!
Dh comes in annoyed, pizza is almost stone cold.
The review part comes up, I press thumbs down and tick three of the negative comments-bad communication, had to meet him and something else.

I never press the thumbs down or negative comments, only ever a thumbs up and positive comments if they’re particularly speedy etc or nothing if it’s a but late as I just leave it

Would you have done this?

Why are you so stressed out about a user delivery gone slightly wrong?

Exactly. The driver couldn't find you. It's not like he did it deliberately. He will have water it delivered as fast as possible so he can deliver the next order.

It will probably be more difficult to get a delivery now as it's up to the driver to accept the delivery so they are judging you just as much as you are judging them!

If you want a hot pizza on New Year's Eve you should probably collect it yourself anyway.

No one chooses to do uber eats. Don’t tread on those who are already down- allow it. They wouldn’t have done it deliberately (!) my god what is wrong with people these days! Where is the empathy!

So instead of apologising, he stood there shouting at dh?!

Yes and you left a negative review and that's the end of it. Why are you even worried about it? It's a non issue. You left a review that you felt reflected the service you received. Time to move on.

I suppose i’m wondering if it was a mean thing to do

It's life, OP.

It's not something I would do personally but I don't think it's 'mean'.

That's what the rating system is for and you have used it because that's what you thought.

I'm not married to someone who would be pissed off and annoyed about a pizza not being delivered.

Of course pizza that's been outside is going to be cold. Its an oven straight to plate food.

Got me curious now. What is an 'oven-but-leave-it-out-for-a-bit' food?

TunnocksOrDeath · 01/01/2025 10:09

I grew up in a semi-rural area with no street lights, and no house numbers. On the very rare occasions when we got food delivered Dad would put a lamp out by the drive so there was something for the driver to aim for. Coloured balloons work too, in the summer.

Exactly. I have learnt that life is much more pleasant if you choose to use your anger and frustration on the things that matter. In this situation I would have felt bad for the delivery driver and probably greeted him with a smile and a 'sorry you're having to deal with this on new years eve, happy new year!' Nobody wants to be out delivering pizza this time of year, they didn't intentionally deliver it late, were probably frustrated by the situation, probably cold and had food going cold for other customers etc. Do I want to be angry about it? Probably. Should I be? Probably not. Rationally? Just be nice and get over it.

Yes it was. He gets about £2 a delivery and potentially not many deliveries at all as the market is saturated with drivers, was probably just as stressed as you about not being able to find your address, contacted you about trying a different way of getting it to you and then you decide you will leave a bad review which affects restaurants using him.

Dh is a nice, polite person, he greeted him warmly, it was him who came in and said the driver was an arsehole and shouted at HIM

We don’t live in an area like that, have many orders off them, no issues normally

Don’t they put the food in insulated boxes? Was it really that cold after such a short time? Couldn’t you just reheat it in the oven?

The colder pizza doesn’t bother me that much, it was the rude way he shouted at dh

I don't know about you but round my area many of the uber eats deliveroo drivers speak very little English. So I've found they can't follow complicated instructions for delivery. I track them and proactively go and meet them if I can see they are struggling to find the house (mine is set back and hard to see)

There you go again, telling the OP to 'get over it'. She doesn't need to get over it. The number of absolute nonsense threads on here but you're picking at this one?

OP, it sounds really frustrating. We don't have many delivery options where we live so it's either choose from a dearth or collect it. If we order in now we tend to collect. Delivery is a job like any other and it needs doing properly or not at all.
You weren't being unreasonable or mean to leave the feedback you did.

She does need to get over it though. It's no big deal leaving a thumbs down for a delivery driver and I do wonder how people get through the big stuff if something like this takes up so much head space.

Naunet · 01/01/2025 11:05

What's the point of reviews if they aren't factual? Don't know why so many people are defending big corporations that charge far too much for shit service.

WidgetDigit2022 · 01/01/2025 11:08

I would never thumbs down someone who knows where you live. Is it worth the potential hassle you may now attract?

smokeandflame · 01/01/2025 11:08

Completely reasonable to leave a negative review, OP.

Not only was he a bit inept with the delivery but he was then rude to you. That's what would have tipped it for me.

It's OK if they get a bit lost or need directions, but not OK to be rude to customers.

You are being ridiculously unfair. None of know the OP, she doubtless takes things in her stride like most of us. This was just an annoying thing that happened and, instead of letting her have a moment to consider/validate what happened with other posters, you've picked at her, repeatedly. Pathetic.

The drivers don't see the thumbs down. They have no way of linking their reviews to a specific customer. They only see averages.

Yes of course it's true, Uber have obviously anticipated angry delivery drivers/ repercussions of negative reviews. They are not going to share your address and negative review and put you at risk. It completely biases the reviews as well to do that.
Just Google it/ check on Uber's website.
