To think that the sausages won’t poison us!

Unbelievably, this has turned into a proper argument … DSis has a party this evening and I’m on sausage duty (never again). Bought truckloads of fresh butcher ones which were sat in the car boot for 2 hours and 10mins (exactly!) as traffic was terrible. They were still cold when I got to hers.

DSis is convinced that everyone will be poisoned and won’t cook them, wants me to go out for more. They cost £20!
AIBU to think that she is being ridiculous and they’re fine to eat?

NewMum3000 · 31/12/2024 14:07

I’m sure they will be fine! She is worrying over nothing!

Mischance · 31/12/2024 14:07

Sausages are heaving with preservative - they will be fine. If she wants more, she can pay for them.

TossieFleacake · 31/12/2024 14:07

She is ridiculous.
They will be fine.

Knittedfairies2 · 31/12/2024 14:08

She's being daft; the sausages were still cold.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/12/2024 14:08

They will be fine - just cook them slightly over as always with sausages.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 31/12/2024 14:09

Cooked the same day I think they’d be absolutely fine.

EileenBilton · 31/12/2024 14:09

I'm probably over-cautious about this sort of thing - but would serve your sausages without a second thought.

Rowaround · 31/12/2024 14:12

What country are you in? The uk definitely ok. Maybe Australia in the heat of the day possibly have a think. But if they were still cold I'm sure they will be ok.

BMW6 · 31/12/2024 14:12

Give her this thread to read

Dear Sis of OP - the sausages will be absolutely fine. My sister is a hotelier and cooks most of the meals, has the highest hygiene rating, and I asked her.

snoopyfanaccountant · 31/12/2024 14:13

If it was the middle of summer and 30 degrees outside she might have a point but the temperature is barely warmer than a fridge. I regularly buy meat in my lunch hour and it sits in the boot of my car in a cool bag until I get home 5 hours later (I don't do this in the height of summer) and we have been fine.

Pigeonqueen · 31/12/2024 14:14

They’ll be fine.

Same! I got anxious about the Boxing Day cold turkey as it had sat out for about six hours the day before. My mum talked me down pointing out that the carcass hadn't even cooled 3 hours in which is why it hadn't gone in the fridge earlier.
We were all fine.

LostittoBostik · 31/12/2024 14:14

Your sis is being bonkers.

.

prrrmeow · 31/12/2024 14:15

She's fucking nuts.

roobyred · 31/12/2024 14:19

Your sister is bonkers. Unless you live in the tropics?

roobyred · 31/12/2024 14:20

Talking of sausage... would you eat stuffing from Christmas that's been in a Tupperware dish in the fridge for a week?

Vinorosso74 · 31/12/2024 14:23

They'll be fine. It's not exactly warm in a car boot in December!
We had people bring us prawns at the weekend which were out of date, they were binned. I don't eat them but why would you do that?

Anotheremmaemma · 31/12/2024 14:23

Are you in the UK?

I'm massively over cautious about the food and I think they'll be absolutely fine.

Unless you're in Australia and it's boiling hot.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 31/12/2024 14:24

They'll be fine.
Just don't suck 'em raw! (the sausages)

Whoarethoseguys · 31/12/2024 14:26

I am extremely cautious when it comes to food poisoning but I would cook them. I don't see the issue, people haven't always had fridges to store food in. 2 hours in a cold car boot isn't going to hurt them.

OhshitSharon · 31/12/2024 14:28

It takes me longer than that to get my shopping home on the bus and even the frozen stuff is always fine, your sausages won't hurt anyone OP!

lovemyflipflops · 31/12/2024 14:37

Tell her you've bought more and use the same ones from the boot - it's a win-win

Miffylou · 31/12/2024 14:39

How does she think people managed in the days before refrigerators?

MrsCarson · 31/12/2024 14:42

She's being ridiculous, tis the season of the outdoor fridge (in a box) or using the garage as a fridge.

Ablondiebutagoody · 31/12/2024 14:56

She's an idiot
