Zero sympathy for people who had £10 million worth of jewellery stolen

People are struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids and pay their rent - whilst this 'millionaire influencer' has £10 million worth of jewellery stashed in a safe at home - I find this morally abhorrent and have zero sympathy. They have so little insight and social conscience that they feel it appropriate to flash jewellery and other signs of huge wealth all over social media. I'm glad no-one was injured obviously but hope the stolen jewellery is used to re-distribute some of their enormous wealth.

I doubt it will be re-distributed to the poor, tbh.

LisaD1 · 31/12/2024 13:50

But it won’t be used for distributing wealth. It will be distributed amongst thieves. You really prefer some thieving scumbag have it than the person who owned it?

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 31/12/2024 13:51

That’s really not what is happening with the jewellery.

You need to work on yourself if someone else being wealthier than you means you can’t allow them any empathy.

However I agree gloating about it or being arrogant does turn off empathy like a dried up tap.

I don’t get why the fact some people are struggling to heat their homes is relevant?

I feel sorry for any victims of crime and home the criminals are caught and locked up for a long time.

Wakeywake · 31/12/2024 13:51

What, you think Robin Hood was the culprit?

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 31/12/2024 13:51

Theft is theft and a victim of a crime is a victim of a crime, regardless of what was stolen or how wealthy the victim is.

DarkAndTwisties · 31/12/2024 13:52

hope the stolen jewellery is used to re-distribute some of their enormous wealth.

🤣 yeah I'm sure it was nicked by some well meaning modern day Robin Hood

FrenchandSaunders · 31/12/2024 13:52

What a strange point of view 🤔

HeddaGarbled · 31/12/2024 13:53

I think it was the fact she regularly showed off on social media that makes me unsympathetic.

KenAdams · 31/12/2024 13:54

Can you give me a figure I'd be allowed to get to wealth wise that's acceptable please? Just so I know for future reference.

It won't be. It'll just sit there. Too hot to handle. Proceeds from crime do not contribute to societal wealth. The robbers weren't Robin Fucking Hood.

Do you have any jewellery? Anything at all of value? A TV? A laptop? A phone? None of these are essential - why don't you sell them and go give the money to a homeless person?

jackstini · 31/12/2024 13:55

You have zero sympathy for someone who has had their home violated, losing items of sentimental value, purely because they are so much richer than you?

I agree wealth distribution is unfair but that's just plain nasty

Rachie1973 · 31/12/2024 13:55

Theft is theft. No one deserves to be a victim of a crime.

Was she "showing it off" or was she just, you know, wearing it?

OliveLeader · 31/12/2024 13:55

It won’t redistribute wealth though, will it? The thief wasn’t Robin Hood. The proceeds will fund organised crime, terrorism, sex trafficking and all kinds of other horrors.

I can’t say I’m breaking my heart on behalf of someone I don’t know and will never meet, but it’s a weird take to think this is some kind of vigilante wealth redistribution.

HeddaGarbled · 31/12/2024 13:56

Nah, she was definitely showing off.

arcticpandas · 31/12/2024 13:57

Yanbu. I'm not shedding many tears. But I don't like criminals so I would prefer for them to get caught.

WilfredsPies · 31/12/2024 13:58

And exactly where would you like to draw the line here?

I’m quite skint, I don’t own my own home and our car is 21 years old and held together with gaffer tape and the power of prayer. Assuming you’ve got a bit more than I have, DM me your address so I can destroy your sense of safety and security in your own home, make you feel ill at the thought of strangers rifling through your personal possessions and help myself to anything you’ve got that I can’t afford.

Or is it only ok to put someone through that if they’ve dared to wear and use their possessions?

Pancakeflipper · 31/12/2024 13:58

Oh yeah... distribution the wealth.... of course that was the motive of the thieves.

It does matter. Could be expensive hoards of jewels, could be cars, tech goods, sentimental items, stuff from shops.... it doesn't matter - it is not right and builds a society that doesn't give a fuck and treating people and property like shit.

Try kindness and respect.

......Morally abhorrent....?.

That someone has more stuff than you do?

Who the hell are you to decide how much wealth someone is 'allowed'?

TotallyTwisted · 31/12/2024 14:00

Have to admit that my first thought, before I even knew who the jewellery belonged to, was "serves them right". It's obscene to spend that much on bags and jewellery.

AngelAva · 31/12/2024 14:02

It's sad how much people are blinded by jealousy that they can't feel any empathy for people who have bad things happen to them just because they are richer than them.

OP your jealousy and spite is small minded. We're all human and trauma is trauma.

Yes this. What's happening to society? The Op is going to be several times wealthier than many people around her. Does that mean she deserves to have her phone or car stolen? To be mugged? To have thieves inside her home and for her and possibly her children feeling scared and unsafe?

We do not want a society where people say 'you have more than me, im going to relish in your misfortune and/or take it off you, you arsehole'.

But that to be honest seems to be where we may be going.
