Zero sympathy for people who had £10 million worth of jewellery stolen

People are struggling to heat their homes, feed their kids and pay their rent - whilst this 'millionaire influencer' has £10 million worth of jewellery stashed in a safe at home - I find this morally abhorrent and have zero sympathy. They have so little insight and social conscience that they feel it appropriate to flash jewellery and other signs of huge wealth all over social media. I'm glad no-one was injured obviously but hope the stolen jewellery is used to re-distribute some of their enormous wealth.

How on earth do you figure that this will redistribute wealth? If anything, other people will be paying for this theft through increased insurance premiums.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/12/2024 14:03

grumpygrape · 31/12/2024 14:02

Why?

I could enlighten you, but I'd get deleted! I'm sure you can guess though.

Hoppinggreen · 31/12/2024 14:04

Its unlikely to be Robin Hood who has stolen it to distribute to The poor Villagers

Uokhunnnn · 31/12/2024 14:08

I have no sympathy whatsoever for the super rich - it’s immoral that they exist, frankly, as nobody needs that level of wealth - but it’s daft to think the money will somehow be redistributed to those in need! I’m not sure you get how crime works, OP.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 31/12/2024 14:08

@TwoCreamEggs jealousy is a terrible thing!!! there seems to be a hell of a lot of it on this post!!

Ewock · 31/12/2024 14:09

Yep Robin Hood at it again. How dare those people be richer than others. 😱

Have to admit that my first thought, before I even knew who the jewellery belonged to, was "serves them right". It's obscene to spend that much on bags and jewellery.

But that 10 million is going to someone who's paying staff who are spending it on shops, and paying revenues which is going into services. It's better societally than 10 million in the bank.
Whereas now it's probably cash stashed somewhere being fed into the drugs market. Yay. Cos that definitely needs a cash injection doesn't it.

What a thoroughly nasty post

“Serves them right” is just one step away from “she was asking for it”.

I doubt it will be re-distributed to the poor, tbh.

Of course it won’t. The myth of Robin Hood is just that.
Thieves are selfish.

BMW6 · 31/12/2024 14:16

Better to remain silent and be thought perhaps a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Engage brain OP.

hagchic · 31/12/2024 14:16

It is not jealousy to find it abhorrent that someone has £10 million pounds to splurge on handbags and jewellery.

It is an indication of our fucked up society which values 'art influencers' far higher than useful people - carers, constructions workers, teachers etc.

It is especially galling at a time when the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

By the way - the rich do not redistribute wealth, they accumulate it further alongside assets - other people's needs such as housing, stakes in energy companies and water companies.

Also, since when have the BBC done interviews on the many many people who have been burgled - these people certainly don't get national coverage or dedicated time from their police forces - they are lucky if they get a crime number.

Butchyrestingface · 31/12/2024 14:17

Looks like @TwoCreamEggs ' two brain cells are in a duel to the death.

Probably staff let them in.
Dad had a safe, but when I looked after their house he never told me the numbers so “ It couldn’t be beaten out of me”.

It was expensive professional equipment not jewellery.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 31/12/2024 14:19

There’s an increasing undercurrent in the attitude of some in the UK, fuelled by some politicians, whereby ‘if I can’t have something, no one should have it’. It’s depressing, and small / petty minded as well.

I am no fan of the ever increasing trend to plaster stuff on social media, and present a ‘curated’ view of a lifestyle that’s not really true. But I have an easy solution - don’t follow those types of people, and minimise your use of social media.

Would I spend £10 million, or £1 million or even £100k on jewellery? No, I wouldn’t. But do begrudge those that can, or at least can get others to fund it…, no? What’s the point? If I want to change something or help someone or do something, I just get on and do it, or at least try to. Posting on social media about someone else’s use of social media seems futile. And yes, that’s what I’m doing right now I know 😂

LauderSyme · 31/12/2024 14:20

Have you never been burgled? I have and so have some of my loved ones; having your home violated and your precious (even if only sentimentally so) personal items stolen is an awful, sickening feeling.

I am all for taxing the rich but theft isn't a reasonable redistribution system and I think you need to work on your emotional intelligence OP.

letsallchant · 31/12/2024 14:20

AngelAva · 31/12/2024 14:02

It's sad how much people are blinded by jealousy that they can't feel any empathy for people who have bad things happen to them just because they are richer than them.

OP your jealousy and spite is small minded. We're all human and trauma is trauma.

Yeah, but all trauma isn't equally traumatic.

Just waiting for the 'politics of envy' to be mentioned

TinyGingerCat · 31/12/2024 14:22

How much can your jewelry be worth so that people still empathise when it is stolen?

It’s definitely not something I will give a second thought to or will keep me awake at night but I would tread carefully down this path of bitterness, because you’ll be the one who has to live in a negative headspace because of it.

RisingSunn · 31/12/2024 14:24

I do not agree that if someone is much wealthier than me - that they deserve to be robbed.

I dont subscribe to that mindset at all.

jeomeollibyeoldul · 31/12/2024 14:24

i certainly wouldn't shed a tear hearing about it.

Kim5678 · 31/12/2024 14:25

I think it’s a waste to spend that kind of money on jewellery, but someone’s possessions are still their possessions no matter what it is or how much it cost. The wealth will likely be “redistributed” to criminals and gangs

YesterdaysFuture · 31/12/2024 14:26

This has the feelings of the Two Ronnies class sketch.

I'm sure that there is someone poorer than TwoCreamEggs who would feel zero sympathy for them if they were burgled.

People who work in shops selling luxury goods are dependent on rich people spending money as they earn commission from it. There are likely to be staff employed (like cleaners and gardeners etc).
