to be mad that a 'friend' of mine spends £15 a week on dope and then moans that she can't afford a TV licence?

That's it really.

Just for a bit of background - she is a single mum, her daughter is 4. She has not worked since well before her daughter was born.

Seems a touch U!

VictorianSqualor · 02/05/2008 17:07

Well, it's not really your business, but no YANBU if you have to listen to her whinge about it.

Question is do you say 'It's ten pound a month, spend less on weed on then you can afford it?'

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:09

Just to clarify - she doesn't just moan about not being able to afford a TV licence.

She does actually NEVER buy one and just hides whenever the inspectors come round.

YANBU

It sounds harsh but I hope she gets caught.

priorities in this house.

Bills,
Food Shopping
DH and children
ME,

I'm bottom of the food chain, I make sure my bills are the FIRST thing I pay, It's like me sitting here drinking wine and moaning I can't pay the bills, it would be ridiculous and all of my own doing.

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:14

Would it be totally unreasonable to report her?

Is there even a way to report someone for not having a TV licence?

Oh I SEE...

I thought you meant she chose not to watch TV.

She has one and no licence?

That's very different.

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:19

How do you go about reporting?

OP posts:
pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:19

I would be very unhappy with myself if I got to such a bitter stage that I reported someone for not having a TV licence.

pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:20

If she moans all the time and you disapprove of her lifestyle, stop being her friend.

LOL
But some TV is so bad you probably need to be stoned to enjoy it.

That Nancy bollocks for a start

and

Britain's Talentless

and

just about any soap.

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:23

Yes Turniphead, I like your point!

Just to clarify again - she is the only person in sole charge of her daughter whilst she is smoking all this dope.

OP posts:
JeremyVile · 02/05/2008 17:24

Oh, I thought your sole concern was the TV Licence

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:30

Well, I suppose that is just an issue that happened to come up today.

She also shoplifts, encourages her daughter to shop lift for her and generally seems to think that the world owes her living.

OP posts:
JeremyVile · 02/05/2008 17:31

and you are her friend why?

BonkersHonkers · 02/05/2008 17:33

Well to be honest, the more I find out about her, the less I really want to be her friend. We are not close friends or anything. In using the term 'friend', I just meant 'someone I know' really.

OP posts:
pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:33

You could phone the TV licence people for starters before building up to the main course of social services.

stripeymama · 02/05/2008 17:35

Social services?

Bit extreme surely?

And the TV licence people will already know she doesn't have a licence. Its on their database.

pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:40

I am being ironic.

muggglewump · 02/05/2008 17:44

She doesn't sound like a great person but really, why do you care what she does or doesn't pay?
I didn't pay my license for 3 months as for no reason they cancelled the DD. I then had two "friendly" huge burly guys turn up on my doorstep and I had to sign a new 3 monthly DD which pinches when it comes out.
I've also lived next door to someone who grassed me up to SS and DWP when I'd done nothing wrong but it's not fun having people accusing you turning up on your doorstep, especially when they rifle through your bin looking for drugs!, The strongest thing I take is a paracetomol but that happenned in front of my whole street
Break off the friendship but leave her be.

Rocky12 · 02/05/2008 17:44

Her daughter is only 4 and being encouraged to shop lift..... What a terrible example of a single mother.

One of my accounts used to be the DSS Benefits office and you would be surprised how many people report their relatives, friends etc when they are claiming the dole and also working cash in hand. The impression I always had was that the rich bitch down the road was reporting people but 99% of tip offs are by people that know the claimant very well. I guess if you are working hard to support your family and someone openly steals, smokes dope you would be pretty hacked off as well.

I would stay well clear of someone so unpleasant
