Not outrageously priced but great quality bedding?

Posting for traffic! You lovely mumsnet lot seem to always be in the know with these things!

Me and DH would like to treat ourselves to some new bedding. We want to buy a new 6ft duvet and also some lovely great quality bedding to go on it, that can preferably be tumble dried (but will settle without it). What sites are worth checking out? Any good sales on? I haven't shopped for this in years so would appreciate any suggestions!

I would agree with Perfectlystill about Dusk - really good quality and washes like a dream.

goingtotown · 28/12/2024 19:22

M&S bedding is not the good quality it used to be.

GiantRoadPuzzle · 28/12/2024 19:22

Dusk, White Company and IKEA are the ones we’ve had the longest, used the most but are still looking good.

JoJothegerbil · 28/12/2024 19:26

Soak and Sleep
White Company in the sale

deeahgwitch · 28/12/2024 19:41

Cynic17 · 28/12/2024 18:56

White Company, especially in the sale. All white, so goes with everything and never goes out of fashion. Lasts for ages too.

But a bugger to iron though.

Spaceid · 28/12/2024 19:46

Secret Linen Company. 100% linen, washes perfectly, paired with a wool duvet from the Devon duvet company, mattress topper with 100% Hungarian goose down, matching pillows, all on a superking bed. I’ve never slept so well! When the children sneak in you don’t even notice them!! You spend so much time in bed and sleep is so important. Don’t scrimp on it!!

Ohthedaffodils · 28/12/2024 20:19

Try Terrys fabrics- online. Just bought a superkingsize duvet cover (RHS), fitted bottom sheet and 4 pillowcases for £76. All 100% cotton.
Lovely quality, ironed really easily and well.

SheGotOffThePlane · 28/12/2024 20:25

Kelly Hoppen high thread count Egyptian cotton. You can buy from QVC and try for 60 days. I have a few sets and it's lasted amazingly well.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/12/2024 20:26

Many years ago I bought Egyptian Cotton bedding from Costco that was lovely , it is thick and satiny without being shiney .
It is meant to be a bit rumpled ( we went on holiday to Egypt 30 years ago and even in 5* hotels it looked a bit rumpled )

Don't know if they still sell it , I think they;ve moved onto bamboo

Dunelm Concious Choice 100% cotton at the moment , loads of colours

HorrorFan81 · 28/12/2024 20:28

I like The White Company and Hampton & Astley

MyLovelyLily · 28/12/2024 20:33

Sainsbury's 100% cotton

Hannahthepink · 28/12/2024 21:41

I really rate Belledorm for sheets, their 400 or 600tc Egyptian cotton is what I use on all my beds.
I love Sheridan duvet covers, also Christy, and I've also had some really nice ones from Dusk (much better quality than I was expecting) and some beautiful ones from Liberty (in the sale).
Dorma in Dunelm is manufactured for Dunelm with the Dorma name plonked on the front. It bears no relation to the beautiful quality bed linen that Dorma made for our parents' beds! Same goes for Fogarty in Dunelm. Sanderson is another previously good name that is now just produced under licence.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/12/2024 21:42

I haven't seen any Sainsbury homeware in our local store , just Habitat .

My DS has a duvet cover/pillowcase set that is polycotton but really good quality and still looks good years later .

Newname71 · 28/12/2024 21:43

I’ve bought a lot of bedding sets over the years. My 2 favourites are from Dunelm. Both are velvet and wash really well

MoetUndChandon · 28/12/2024 21:44

I like Piglet's 100% linen

Yes after buying a wool room duvet I could never sleep under anything else. They are so comfy!

That's so interesting. I bought a wool duvet based on MN recommendations and I hate it - it looks and feels thin and meagre. It doesn't have the snuggly, marshmallowy cosiness of normal duvets - it feels and looks very austere.

It's a weird size (not quite king) so always goes baggy in the duvet cover.

It was a few hundred quid so I don't feel I can get rid just yet because it's technically functional 😒

Edited to actually answer the OP - Dorma from Dunelm. My M&A stuff is still going well after I had it as a present about 10 years ago!
Avoid Bambo Panda - thin and messy, says it shrinks to size after a couple of washes but that's bollocks

Cherry8809 · 28/12/2024 22:00

White Company, Yves Delorme or Amalia.

mitogoshigg · 28/12/2024 22:02

Dunelm is your best bet to start with as you can see it in person

HellsBells67 · 28/12/2024 22:23

I;ve had a Yves Delorme set for 21 years and still going strong, feels fantastic to sleep on, smooth and cool.

Otherwise, I buy White Company high thread counts. Wasted a lot of money on 1000 thread count from Dunelm, but it was a branded name I forget. Actually had to get up in the middle of the night and take them off, they were making me itch.

Northernbrightlights · 28/12/2024 22:23

Belledorm, Homescapes (brilliant for sheets), Bedeck. I'd avoid Soak and Sleep, awful customer service and duvet cover looked like rags after a few washes.

For a duvet, I'd recommend Devon Duvets. They're 20% off at the moment and are hand sewn in the UK, using British wool. Ours will outlast us!

sweetsardineface · 28/12/2024 22:28

Agree with Secret Linen Co. Wonderful products that wash beautifully and really last.

ThisOldThang · 28/12/2024 22:30

I had the same quandary. I had a think and came to the conclusion that hotels have nice linen, so a hotel supplier would be a good place to start.

We have this and it's very nice.

WTFWilma · 28/12/2024 22:32

Soak & Sleep French linen bedding is lovely, as is (the more expensive) Piglet in Bed.

Serenity45 · 28/12/2024 22:32

MissFritton65 · 28/12/2024 17:59

I've always been very pleased with Dorma bedding which is now sold in Dunelm.

Another vote for the Dorma range - one of our sets is over 10 years old and still washing/wearing well (unlike come more expensive sets we've had). Feels lovely and silky.

LittleBigHead · 28/12/2024 22:37

I only buy cotton or linen. No polyester.

For cheap but lovely try La Redoute. They have some nice cotton linen mixes.
