Not outrageously priced but great quality bedding?

Posting for traffic! You lovely mumsnet lot seem to always be in the know with these things!

Me and DH would like to treat ourselves to some new bedding. We want to buy a new 6ft duvet and also some lovely great quality bedding to go on it, that can preferably be tumble dried (but will settle without it). What sites are worth checking out? Any good sales on? I haven't shopped for this in years so would appreciate any suggestions!

I love Sheridan bedding. It is very expensive, so I keep an eye out for sales. High threadcount, lovely handle, lush designs and colours, and washes very well.

Generally speaking, you get what you pay for with bedding. High threadcount usually means good quality, so if it seems too cheap - it is! The one exception IME is Ikea's brushed cotton bedding. Unlike my 'bargain' high threadcount bedding, my Ikea brushed cotton bedding has worn well and is soft and cosy. A genuine bargain.

Another thing to look out for is 'long-staple Egyptian cotton'. This also generally means good quality (soft, smooth, hard-wearing, washes well), which means expensive. Again, if non-sale price seems like a bargain, it's probably not.

george or dunelm look for 100% cotton for better quality

deeahgwitch · 28/12/2024 17:37

I bought a very high thread count fitted under sheet from Primark.
I as delighted to get it so reasonably priced.
The quality of the material in the sheet was lovely however the elastic in the sheet broke on third use.
I'm not a great sewer so i would have to get it mended at some cost.
False economy. Sad
M&S, Dunnes Stores or The White Company would be good options.
Dunelm do a really high thread count bed linen range but I don't know what the quality is like.

Rise and Fall are great for bedding

KimFan · 28/12/2024 17:41

Julian Charles. Their bedding is amazing.

IggyAce · 28/12/2024 17:44

I’ve got a mix of M&S and dunelm both wash well and are a reasonable price.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 28/12/2024 17:50

I got some very good quality 100% cotton bedding from M&S in the summer. It's part of the M&S X Fired Earth collection. I chose it because it had a good range of plain colours that were subtle - I'm really not a fan of most bedding patterns - but they do have patterned stuff too. It washes well but if you plan on tumble drying it, you might feel you have to iron it. It depends how fussy you are. I'm not, and after a night on the bed, most creases have dropped out anyway.

MyPithyPoster · 28/12/2024 17:57

I actually cannot sleep in IKEA bedding. I’ve stayed at peoples houses before with it and it’s like sleeping on a crisp packet.
As the previous poster said you do get what you pay for. Panda bamboo bedding is nice.

MissFritton65 · 28/12/2024 17:59

I've always been very pleased with Dorma bedding which is now sold in Dunelm.

booisbooming · 28/12/2024 18:00

Habitat washes really well.

Bollihobs · 28/12/2024 18:04

Another vote for Ikea brushed cotton bedding - I love ours so much, it's cosy and warm, washes really well, for the price it's well worth trying.

IhadaStripeyDeckchair · 28/12/2024 18:07

I bought a second wool duvet from the wool room recent, so I now have a light for summer & warm for winter.
They are different to down or synthetic duvets - denser, the filling doesn't move & there is some weight to them.

I love them & have recommended them to several people.

ThrillsAndSpills2025 · 28/12/2024 18:10

TKMaxx - bargainest high quality bedding and some gorgeous designs. Although you do have the usual scrummage and can't be sure what you'll find in there of course...

ShodAndShadySenators · 28/12/2024 18:11

Another fan of Dorma (Dunelm only) but I do think a lot of the patterns available are rather old fashioned, although there are some exceptions and plain colours as well. They're very soft and smooth and feel really expensive imo.

I've had M&S ones in the past and been impressed at the quality for the price as well. I have brushed cotton sets for the winter and it does give an extra layer of cosiness.

CornishPorsche · 28/12/2024 18:16

Anything 100% cotton. Avoid polycotton - even expensive brands con you with that....
I have several Asda / Sainsbury's sets which are 100% cotton and have lasted for many years.

BigBoysDontCry · 28/12/2024 18:18

Dip and Doze. Spendy but not outrageous. Organic and lovely to sleep in, gets nicer the more it's washed. You can go for a crisp finish or softer. Also has a free trial. Not many options in terms of colour or style but I have plain white anyway.

Overtheatlantic · 28/12/2024 18:47

The White Company is gorgeous. Soft and washes well, lasts ages.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 28/12/2024 18:56

I like H&M Home washed cotton. I'm not sure if they do fitted sheets, but certainly have duvet covers and pillow cases. Very subtle colours and soft.

Cynic17 · 28/12/2024 18:56

White Company, especially in the sale. All white, so goes with everything and never goes out of fashion. Lasts for ages too.

Killerqueenie · 28/12/2024 19:16

We recently bought a wool duvet (winter weight) from costco, and I love it so much. It is heavier than our previous feather duvet and much more cosy. We will buy another one for summer.

Can't comment on duvet covers as I am in desperate need of some new ones. We are waiting until we re-decorate our bedroom.

Yes after buying a wool room duvet I could never sleep under anything else. They are so comfy!

There’s a company called Linen Bundle. Their bedding is super luxurious. It’s not extortionate but far more expensive than the likes of Dunelm, Primark and Ikea - personally I’d class that as cheap bedding but depends how much you want to spend. You would totally know the difference between the likes of those and linen bundle.
