MIL and photo of DPs ex

We have just arrived at my MILs after a horrendous journey, she lives about five hours away from us, our DS is eight months and she has been up twice in that time to see him! Since my DP and I got together three and a half years ago she has made it very clear she hates that he's moved up to be with me and we have never exactly had a cosy relationship! When you walk into her house the first thing you see is a large photo of my partner and the family and my partners ex girlfriend, my partner has asked his mother numerous times to take it down cos it's dead awkward but she never has but today we've turned up and she's cut a picture of Mary Berry out and glued this over my partners ex gf, is it me or is that sort of worse?! I do just find it funny now but AIBU to think that especially now we have a baby she could've just took it down?!

She’s covered your Dps ex with a photo of Mary Berry?

Emonade · 27/12/2024 20:14

Yes!

That’s really weird!

Runningoutofthyme · 27/12/2024 20:15

I would embrace this and send personalised cards for all events, birthdays, Mother’s Day, Christmas etc with a card and present intrinsically linked to Mary Berry

but I also feel for Mary getting caught in this crossfire

ChristmasinBrighton · 27/12/2024 20:16

So is the photo a large family group one? Not just one of DP and his ex?

You sound a bit odd if so. MIL sounds hilarious.

Pinkissmart · 27/12/2024 20:17

It’s weird but slightly brilliant.

PiperLeo · 27/12/2024 20:17

Haha! I'm sorry but that's funny.
On a serious note. She should have taken it down when he split with her. Just out of respect for you both. She clearly keeps it there to get a rise out of you. Best thing to do is pretend you don't care. Or make a joke out of it " honey when did you meet Mary berry? Lol"

Olika · 27/12/2024 20:17

That's hilarious! 😂 I couldn't be bothered now that MB is in the pic with them. 🤣

HeddaGarbled · 27/12/2024 20:17

I think that’s hilarious.

What’s the issue with her visiting you twice?

BeerForMyHorses · 27/12/2024 20:18

Mary Berry 😂 that's actually very funny.

Emonade · 27/12/2024 20:18

It's so funny isn't it! She's such an odd woman but I'm definitely getting her a Mary Berry cookbook for her birthday!

Replacing the ex with Mary Berry is funny.

Visiting twice in eight months when she lives 5hrs away is plenty.

I think you don't like her and are looking to find fault.

I8toys · 27/12/2024 20:20

Can you replace your partner with Paul Hollywood when she's not looking?

MrsMitford3 · 27/12/2024 20:20

omg the potential for fun is endless.

Mary Berry cookbooks for every holiday.

I would def be getting a mary berry t-shirt made...

You can get the fake face masks on sticks-I'd def enter as Mary Berry.
Think your baby should too!!!

Emonade · 27/12/2024 20:20

Issue with the visiting is she moans a lot that she doesn't see DS/DP but never comes up to see us, she really really hates that DP moved, when we met he lived in Plymouth and I'm up in the east mids where we both are now, which I get it's hard but she's never made an effort

OP posts:
Emonade · 27/12/2024 20:22

Omg yes to Paul Hollywood!

Runningoutofthyme · 27/12/2024 20:22

Totally agree with pp
You absolutely need to bring Paul Hollywood into this too
a nice family portrait of you, dc & Paul

I think it's hilarious. One day it might be your son moving five hours away, have some empathy and give her a break. It's a long way. How often do you expect her to visit?

@AnarchismUK we don’t need posts like this thanks

Buy her a family photoshoot session for next Christmas so she can replace it with one including you and DS

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 27/12/2024 20:28

That's fucking hilarious

jannier · 27/12/2024 20:30

Wasn't there a post like this a few days ago where it was a group picture of a family member's wedding and the ex was a guest? I'm not sure we should ask people to remove all memories of a special day just because en ex is in the picture it's not like it's a couple picture .....maybe get a new group picture done?

HouseAshamed · 27/12/2024 20:30

Cover a photo of her with a photo of Nigella Lawson.

There was, and this sounds like it may be equally unreasonable to moan about.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 27/12/2024 20:31

On a serious note she's flicking you the finger

She doesn't like you, don't bother telling her what she can and can't have on her wall.

You stole her precious son. And l bet you can't bake.
