He takes it so seriously. He's always gone through hobby phases but he's done this for years now and takes it very seriously. He's currently on the phone discussing 'Bretheryn' and it gives me the major ick, I actually want to cry listening to it.

I've tried to stand by him as he takes it so seriously so i attend events and smile encouragingly but I can't bear it. Never knew when I married him that he wanted to do this. It's not the worst thing he could do of course but it's an old boys club and we're only in our 30s!

He has lots of friends and other hobbies so it's not even his only social outlet, no idea why he needs this in his life and treats it like a second job.

Sorry if I’ve missed anything, been a bit busy over last couple of days, family, grand children etc, as have we all I hear you cry but I wanted to ask if anyone has replied to “What do the buggers do?”
Well, the first three degrees, ie Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason, are largely concerned with retelling and enacting the myth of Hiram Abiff, supposedly the architect of King Solomon’s temple. The columns of which are supposedly named Boaz and Jachin (which are the secret passwords of the first and second degree ceremonies). Abiff was, so the myth goes, murdered by a Fellow Craft, ie a lesser worker, when he, Abiff, refused to divulge the secret mysteries of a Master Mason. The third degree ceremony has the candidate wrapped in a shroud lying in a coffin being “raised on the five points of fellowship (don’t ask)” by his brethren. There are another thirty-three other degrees open to master masons with time and money to persue them. They all have ludicrous names, one is called “Knight of the Pelican ad the Eagle” another, Prince Rose Croix of Heredom” It’s all juvenile bollocks heaped on nonsense and would be fairly harmless gallimuffery if it did not underpin a system of unaccountable influence. A pp suggested that all police officers and members of the judiciary should have to declare membership. I would go further and say all public servants should have too.

Nope. I know these arseholes through work.
I am not a lawyer. I do know one, married to a friend, but he is a dick and I spend as little time around him as possible!

So you know some humans that are arseholes unfortunately that’s in all walks of Life.

I can tell you the jobs of some of the members. Electrician, plumber, care home owner, accountant, GP, handyman, estate agent, council worker (professional level), loads of retired. I don't know of any solicitors, judges, police (two retired police though) and no healthcare other than the GP. Nearly all are retired here.

Donations- I think membership is about £35 a year. They pay for each meal which is like a 3 course school dinner/hotel mass offering.... at each meal they have a charitable plate and raffles. This raises a few hundred. Individual donations vary with retired people likely to chuck £20-50 in the pot one way or another. In this way it's very similar to WI or PTA raffles

The silly costume is the most expense and reminds me of girls brigade where you buy from 'the supplier' and pay a lot to wear braid, and badges... I can't stomach this bit. I find it the biggest turn off and it does threaten my marriage as I dislike the reverence for the organisation. I'd be the same about church attendance as well.

The sorcery and sex 😆 Really? "Eyes wide shut" If only.

The silly custom is emblematic of the protective clothing worn by stone masons but has a moral significance to Freemasons

My friends husband was in there for a long time. he recently left out of the blue and refuses to say why. Apparently my friend thinks they asked him to do certain things. She also believes he was having sex with people. He always went to bed with no clothes but every time after his nights with them he would wear pants and often have stuff in his undies next day. She said that it was gross and his behaviour got worse and worse. Very controlling. She is happy he is out. It is totally a cult and dangerous.

This is absolutely the oddest thing I've ever read here; and I've been here for a very long time.

There are only 3 degrees recognise by the Freemasons Grand Lodges commonly know as the blues.
the other orders do not come under the umbrella of Freemasons. But have their own governing bodies.

deeahgwitch · 28/12/2024 09:16

Where do they get the money to help charities etc.
How do they raise all this money ?

By taking a capitation fee for each member of a lodge.

SavingTheBestTillLast · 28/12/2024 13:52

Catsnap · 28/12/2024 09:33

Membership is £200 a year. It says this on their own website.

Plus all donations are tax free with the FM claiming back tax or members not paying it at all as it’s going to a ‘charity’.
Given that 80% is to help members and their immediate family only I do think it’s time the Govn stopped this loophole and insisted on any money used to help their own pays tax as that money is not in the spirit of a true Charity ( like taxing private schools )
On average then the FM would only get away with 20% of their income as tax free.

Think I might write to my MP and ask why they haven’t looked into this ‘charity’ ….given that the country is so broke 🤔.

You are taking about gift aid that all register charities church etc can claim back.
the Freemasons do not have special tax exemption.
yes we do help members that are distressed but most organisations do this what’s up with that?
far more money goes to other worthy causes.
i find it strange that individuals attack any organisation or individuals that give in the name of charity I wonder how much they do in the name of charity,

80% of their income goes to help Freemasons and their families.
Only 20% goes to an organisation or someone that is non related ie the eligibility criteria does not state a relationship to the Freemasons ( ie the armed forces for example are a recent addition, for example )

20% does not constitute far more, it’s very much a minimum amount of the overall expenditure.

Because they would like you to be a high ranking lawyer who got promoted to partner straight out of university by undertaking some sex magic ritual (preferably involving the sacrifice of a goat). Being a carpenter or plumber collecting for charity and having a chicken dinner doesn’t fit the new world order narrative 😂

Look up the alchemical meanings of the Pelican -there’s a specific image of a pelican plucking out its own feathers

re the rosey cross read up about Rosicrucians.

I mean you could hit up google, but you’re too busy embarrassing yourself with your misplaced derision
