Need a suit urgently for my son. Thought id be able to get one in the sales. Does anyone else have this problem. Tall ( over 6 foot) but very very slim. Basically need 28 inch waist but 34 inches at least in the leg length. Also as hes young (19) would like a young style preferably blue. Im finding that 28 waist means far too short. We cant be the only ones with this problem.help!

Next? They do that exact size, colour and leg length

Ablondiebutagoody · 26/12/2024 11:35

Very difficult to buy one that fits off the shelf. If you have enough time, I would buy one as tall and skinny as you can find and get it altered to fit properly.

Kitkatfiend31 · 26/12/2024 11:35

Definitely Next. Have slim fitting options.

BlueMum16 · 26/12/2024 11:36

Where are you?
We used Slaters in Liverpool. They have loads and do tailoring too.

Turquoisesea · 26/12/2024 11:37

Yes I was going to say Next too, my DS20 is very slim with 28inch waist too, not as tall as your DS but still nearly 6ft. They have a tall section with smaller waist size.

Runnersandtoms · 26/12/2024 11:38

Solidarity, can't buy cheaper clothes for my son anymore because anything that fits on the waist will be too small, anything the right length massive round the waist.

chickenpieandchips · 26/12/2024 11:41

Next but for unusual sizing you might need to buy online and with the sales, delivery might not be next day.

ocs30 · 26/12/2024 11:42

My sons are similar and needed suits for 6th form. We used to get them from TM Lewin, which I think is only online now, but may be worth a look.

izzywizzywont · 26/12/2024 11:43

Ive looked at next. I. Cant find one. All the 28 inch waists seem to be short or regular. Could anyone please link one available as 28/ 34

Next is brilliant for weird teen shapes.

Printedword · 26/12/2024 11:45

Definitely Next. Your problem is going to be if you need longer than 34 leg. Our DC was wearing hiking trousers for our walk yesterday and I noted that Mountain Warehouse long length is only just long enough. Ok with a waking boot, but a bit short with trainers

NotMeNoNo · 26/12/2024 11:48

Next. We ended up buying black for my 19yo son (interview). If you can't find the matching trousers in the right size in the suit dept, go and look at the main trousers section as some are in identical fabrics.

Br1ll1ant · 26/12/2024 11:49

M&S do a great suit with 28L trousers. They’ve lasted v well for DS

OneTC · 26/12/2024 11:55

Next definitely has the best in store availability of 28" in different lengths.

When you find the 28" though it'll be too short in the seat regardless of leg length, I have better luck making 30" fit in most high street brands. For a suit off the peg I gather them at the back and keep my jacket on

izzywizzywont · 26/12/2024 12:16

Thankyou some good ideas here. So difficult. Didnt have this problem with his brother. Will look at some of these suggestions. Thanks for your time.

I have a teen in the exact same sizes as yours. You need to go to Slaters menswear and they will sort you out quickly and easily, they also do the alterations for free.

Hope there’s one near you

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/12/2024 12:21

Our 21 year old (6’ 5) found long length trousers at Matalan recently.

cantkeepawayforever · 26/12/2024 12:25

Slaters. Go in, make a beeline for the most experienced-looking fitter. Gesture helplessly in your child’s direction. Fitter will cluck sympathetically and magic up the only 3 suits of their size in the whole shop, all with unfinished trousers that can be set to any length. They may make additional helpful suggestions, like a waistcoat to add bulk so the jacket looks less as if it’s hanging off a clothes hanger.

Walk out, after paying rather less than expected, pick up perfect-length suit about 4 days later.

DS in need of a prom suit with 26 inch waist and 36 inch inside leg - fitted perfectly. Ditto two years later, when he could fit into 28 inch waists but was if possible even longer in the leg.

TartanMammy · 26/12/2024 12:30

Next - you'll need to order online though, they don't usually have the non-standard sizes in-store.

Or slaters I have always found to be very good, but slightly more expensive.

mitogoshigg · 26/12/2024 12:31

Next or slaters. Slaters have free alterations

Mapletreelane · 26/12/2024 12:33

Another vote here for Slaters. Turned it into a great experience for my very shy, awkward, hates shopping, tall and skinny DS (was 16 at the time). We were able to try on shirts, ties and shoes too. And probably for the same price as Next. The fit was amazing on him and he didn't look like a teenager wearing his dad's suit!

ErinAoife · 26/12/2024 12:35

I got one for my 17 years old who is over 6 foot in Next. He is slim but not overly skinny. We got him the slim cut and it suit him perfectly.

ErinAoife · 26/12/2024 12:37

To add I bought him in the shop as I want4d him to try it on.

FannyFernackerpants · 26/12/2024 12:37

Definitely Next, I got my 6'4 son kitted out there quickly and easily.
You will probably be better looking at a 30 waist and either have it taken in or put a belt on.
