Is this the year when Mumsnetters finally admit that they are little balls of disgustingness.

You're grown adults. You don't HAVE to eat them. You can enjoy food.

Also stop using them to ruin bacon

@TheRealKatnissEverdeen

I can offer my recipe for braised cabbage and garlic if you want?

https://www.latimes.com/recipe/braised-savoy-cabbage-with-anchovies

I love the umami of anchovies, but you can leave them out if not to your taste

This looks great. Thank you. Won't be one for tomorrow but I'll try it soon.

Sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, what's not to love?

Sprouts. That’s what not to love.

I’m with OP on sprouts being little green balls of bitter nastiness.

PCOSisaid · 24/12/2024 17:14

I have just started roasting them, always did them boiled, then fried with butter, bacon and garlic. (And some cream at the end if I am feeling extra decadent..)

My current go to recipe is roasted with balsamic and honey - I work from home and regular just have sprouts from lunch with some frozen yorkshires and bisto gravy

WTAFisthisnonsense · 24/12/2024 17:14

I've been vegetarian most of my life and vegan for 15 years or so. They are the only vegetable I will not eat. Utterly vile.

DH loves them and is currently prepping them in the kitchen whilst I watch the Guns of Navarone and have a large v&t.

He accepts that they are his responsibility. 🍸

Monstermashermashedthemonster · 24/12/2024 17:17

Sprouts make me want to vomit. No sprouts being cooked in my house. The smell is just has bad had the taste.

JudyP · 24/12/2024 17:17

Another person who detested sprouts because my mum and grandparents boiled them and they are truly disgusting that way - but roasted or stir fry with garlic and bacon they are truly delicious - it's all in the way you cook them!

It really isn’t. I’ve tried them boiled, steamed and roasted and with all kinds of added ingredients, and I still find them vile.

The only thing that worked as a child (and being made to eat them) was slathering them with extra strong horseradish sauce.

Longwaysouth · 24/12/2024 17:39

They are the work of the devil.
Won't have them in the house.

getthosetitsup · 24/12/2024 17:41

Sprouts are not just for Christmas in my house 😜

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 24/12/2024 17:42

Reported. What a disgusting sproutist post. Shame on you op

You have just started roasting them !?
Won't they be a bit burnt by tomorrow 😁

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 24/12/2024 19:38

I love them. I eat them all through the year; sprouts aren't just for Christmas! 😉

Usually we ponce them up a bit but this year we've got lots of rich dishes so we're just going to steam them. No butter, no dressing, no nothing!

I don't eat huge amounts, mind. Don't want to suffer any side effects.

Stop ruining a perfectly nice sprout free thread with your recipe nonsense!

Ha! The joke is on you OP. Here’s my recipe for decadent Brussels sprouts. I add cooked lardons and roasted pine nuts towards the end. Even sprout haters love them.

I've grown my own sprouts, leeks and carrots.

I'm roasting carrots in honey and mustard and sprouts and leeks together with bacon bits.

So basically hiding all veg in sugar and fat 😀 makes sense.

stargazerlil · 24/12/2024 21:05

Unfortunately I never have any room left on my plate for a sprout.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 24/12/2024 21:27

DD loves sprouts - the one person who buys them at any time of the year.
She hates them if I mess them around with chestnuts and bacon and things. Just plain buttered sprouts with a dash of pepper.

itsalwaysthesame · 24/12/2024 23:33

Love em, do does my 9yo dd

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/12/2024 23:33

My favourite vegetable

CaneToad · 24/12/2024 23:56

They are particularly lush in the air fryer.

Home grown are the best by a mile - not even a tiny bit bitter. Just delicious.

Screamingabdabz · 25/12/2024 00:32

I LOVE them! I would forgo everything else on the plate…And none of this shredding or bacon business, they’re perfect as they are (as long as they’re cooked properly) 😗👌🏼

YABU

Crazycatlady79 · 25/12/2024 00:34

I love them and would feast upon them thrice daily, were it not for the fact they trigger my IBS!

Exactly. Disguise the taste as much as you can!

I have to have sprouts as part of my Christmas meal, but it’s the only time of the year that I eat them.

Or it was until I tried a new recipe!! Halve, roast for 11 minutes on 200 in the air fryer, game changer, even the teens agreed.

LifeExperience · 27/12/2024 15:43

Roasted with bacon. Delish.
