Is this the year when Mumsnetters finally admit that they are little balls of disgustingness.

You're grown adults. You don't HAVE to eat them. You can enjoy food.

Also stop using them to ruin bacon

One of the best thing about hosting is I don't have to cook them as they are not permitted over my threshold.

I'll be round at yours. A voice of reason amongst the nonsense here. 😀

They are the devil's testicles.

Recipe...I love cabbage...I love garlic. I have both here.

It’s DH’s dish and he looked puzzled when I asked the details as he wings it. It’s one of the pale green pointed cabbages, finely sliced, sauté with lots of butter and crushed garlic or garlic granules. Serve hot. Sorry that’s so vague!

I can work with that🤣 Please thank DH.

BrieHugger · 24/12/2024 14:43

120 of the beautiful green balls of deliciousness here, all peeled and ready to be tossed with chestnuts, maple glazed bacon, butter and black pepper. Can’t wait!

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 24/12/2024 14:48

@user1471517900 I love sprouts but one christmas eve I outdid myself!! bought 5 large bags if sprouts for christmas dinner and only three people ate sprouts out of 15!

afaloren · 24/12/2024 14:52

We make Sophie Grigson’s sprout gratin every year and love it!

RobertaFirmino · 24/12/2024 14:56

Can't abide them and believe me, I've tried. Boiled, roasted, fried, doesn't matter - I just cannot get along with them.

I love a sprout. 😁

Me and my DC love them. We eat them at least once a week 😅

mandarinchocolate · 24/12/2024 14:59

Delicious

CoastalCalm · 24/12/2024 15:00

I adore them and this year we have grown our own on our new allotment and I am thrilled !

It's an age and gender thing. The older and more male the person, the fewer the tastebuds they have and the more they like sprouts.

🤣🤣I have never heard this? I'm 5'1, wouldn't class myself as more male 🤣

mindutopia · 24/12/2024 15:03

I love them. Besides the bread sauce and the pigs in blankets, they are my favourite bit of Christmas lunch. Meat and potatoes rather bore me. We have ours roasted with chestnuts and pancetta. When I first lived on my own in my early 20s, I remember being so thrilled I could cook my own meals and have sprouts all the time. I ate them a lot back then. 😂

ScottBakula · 24/12/2024 15:03

I have sprouts, bacon and ( still in their shell) chestnuts .
Please help a novice out
I am going to try to cook the chestnuts in either my cast iron pan or heavy pressure cooker ( lid off ) but then what do I do ?

Bonjovispyjamas · 24/12/2024 13:24

But you have to have 'just one' it's the law 😜

Hahaha, Mummy calls it the 'token sprout' as she pops one onto every plate 💕

ODFOx · 24/12/2024 15:08

My DC used to love be them: as littlies/primary age they would point them out in the supermarket when they came into season. It was a bit of a family joke that we all loved them so much!
Now they are all grown only 2/5 will admit to liking them and only 3/5 of their partners even eat vegetables at all.
Nonetheless DH, DM, 1/3 DB, 2/2 PiL and me all love them and I have no idea about another 2 guests so I'm serving them in spite of all! Hail the Brussels sprout !! 😀😀😀

This thread has actually got me googling sprout recipes for some different ways of cooking them, sorry OP 😆

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/12/2024 16:02

Sprouts are evil - anyone who says otherwise is seriously disturbed.
Happy to help OP.

There's a great one where you leave them in a food waste bag in your compost bin and then.....

....well that's it.

Love sprouts. I eat them all the time in winter.

Nothatgingerpirate · 24/12/2024 16:28

They are alright and don't cause me trouble.
I much rather eat some sprouts than for example a mince pie, that stuff makes me gag.
Everyone is different!

Sprout cheese, like cauliflower cheese. I made up a massive dish of this one year and ate the whole thing

Why have I never thought of this? I'm definitely going to try it!

Sorry OP, another vote for sprouts here, I love them! They've also been my DD's favourite vegetable since she was weaned!
