Would you go on this holiday?

My husbands parents, uncle and his wife, and grandparents have presented the offer of a new tradition.
10 days holiday, all flights and Accomodation paid for in the Easter holidays to the Caribbean.

In attendance would be

  • Husbands Grandparents
  • Husbands Parents
  • Husbands uncle and his wife
  • Husbands sister, her husband and 2 children aged 4 and 7
  • Husbands brother, his wife and their children aged 5, 8 and 10
  • Husband and I and our 2 children 6 and 9
  • Husbands cousin, her partner and her child aged 3

They have found a villa which they claim would fit everyone nicely. AIBU to say I don't want to go and husband can go with the kids and his family and I'll have a nice week, not waste any annual leave and have evenings and a weekend to myself.
If it goes well they want to make it an annual tradition and I just don't think I can stand 10 days with the in laws and so many kids.

There's no way I would commit to this every single year. I may do one every couple of years, but every year? No fucking way.

We did something similar with DH's family this year, though fewer people (6 adults and 4 kids), in a 4 bedroom villa. We went for a week, as flights dictated that, and I knew when we booked it would be too long - it was! I've said I'll only do it again for a long weekend, or if we're staying in separate accommodation. So for me it would be a no - my holidays are precious and I'd hate to lose over a week knowing in advance that I'd be stressed and there would almost certainly be arguments.

Yes would be fun

Which island?
I think 10 days is to long on most of them

emmetgirl · 22/12/2024 22:35

That would be my worst nightmare

I wouldn’t go because it won’t be a holiday. The wives will spend the entire time cooking, cleaning and looking after the kids. One person will use all the hot water every day. The kids will form two groups and be at war with each other. Two adults will fall out. One of the wives will decide to be in charge, constantly rushing around complaining that she is the one doing everything, despite not actually doing that much.
Only go if you get your own villa so you can escape.
