To ask if you're wearing makeup today?

It's my pre-Xmas pamper day today - I've got a hairdressers appointment at 11, then popping to get my upper lip waxed (glam!) then going to get a pedicure. I'm unusually barefaced and look wrecked after a long, stressful month at work Grin

DD17 has just asked me if I'm putting makeup on before I go out and when I said no I got an eyebrow lift!

Are you a bare faced beauty (or, like me, beast) today or AIBU and should go and put my face on before I scare any small children... ?

I wear some every day. I dont particularly like my face with no makeup at all.

HermoinePotter · 21/12/2024 15:39

I wear a full face every day, no-one except the staff and DH normally see me but I love make up.

rightoguvnor · 21/12/2024 15:40

I am as of 10 mins ago, going to MILs shortly for a fish n nchip supper and to exchange presents (although we'll see her and open the pressies then).
Other than work twice a week or a special night out in company I don't bother anymore.
I went to a late night cinema showing last night and a few people were in their pyjamas with coats over. Tbh, I wished I'd done the same!

Squidlette · 21/12/2024 15:47

Nope. Had a few missions to complete, but didn't bother with makeup. I wear it for work, so can't always be arsed on weekends.
Dd, young teen, has been in all day and still put make up on. It concerns me that she's become so reliant on it, but hopefully it's a phase.

BlueEyedLeucy · 21/12/2024 15:51

No makeup here, I never wear it. People don’t drop dead at the sight of me…yet…so all good!

Makingchocolatecake · 21/12/2024 15:53

I'd feel really sad if my 17yo asked me that, but I grew up with a mum who didn't wear much make up, so I didn't wear any until my wedding, and still don't.

Here4thechocs · 21/12/2024 15:57

I’ve just returned from a 150 mile round trip. Bare faced. I work every imaginable hour of the day, 5 days a week. Bare faced. I only ever wear makeup to church or parties. I’m 44.

Cherry8809 · 21/12/2024 16:56

My mother is pretty glamorous, and I’d always love watching her put on makeup every day, couldn’t wait till I was old enough to wear it myself!

I worked for years in the beauty industry, so wearing a full face was the accepted standard.

I now work in a role that means I’m likely to be (indirectly) photographed, and these photos end up in the media, so you can bet your money on me taking the time to look well put together lol.

It literally takes a few minutes to polish your appearance, I don’t understand the comments saying “no time for that”, “slows me down”, “priorities change” etc.

This is like the filling your car with petrol argument isn't it? I'll happily put makeup on, because I like the process and I enjoy playing around with it. I know I look better with it, but I also don't really care if I don't wear any.
I'll put off petrol, an equally quick job in some ways, because I find it faffy.

🙄

What did I say wrong?

I sometimes wear makeup and sometimes don’t, but I never feel bad about not wearing it.

CalicoPusscat · 22/12/2024 12:41

I've got a bit on, bb cream and mascara.

I looked worn out this morning so wanted to wear some to see family :)

Ghostofallnightmares · 22/12/2024 12:51

Yes, always.

If you enjoy wearing make-up and feel that it's a way to "polish your appearance" then that's fine. Do what feels good to you and what you enjoy.

But it's strange that you seem incapable of understanding that other women might feel differently and could be uninterested, feel confident to go out without makeup or find it a faff.

Wearing make up is a matter of personal preference. It's hardly a non negotiable of basic hygiene like washing or brushing your teeth. It's more a question of taste like tattoos, piercings or wearing jewellery.

I “seem incapable of understanding”…?

Actually, as I said, I worked in the beauty industry for 15 years, and I very much understand that there’s no “one size fits all” approach to makeup and how subjective it is.

My point, however, was specifically about how long it takes to apply products, and how little time it actually takes to make a difference to your appearance.

Of course I understand that people may not see it as important, but my comment is the equivalent of “nobody is too busy to text you back” - people have varying degrees of freedom of time throughout the day, but nobody is too busy to spare a literal minute.

Wear it, don’t wear it….that’s entirely your prerogative. Personally I will always feel that people who do wear it look better and like they care about their appearance.

What’s wrong with not giving a shit about your appearance though?

I don’t care. I can’t see myself so what I look like isn’t my problem. If someone else has a problem with what I look like, or they have some weird concern with the fact that I don’t care, I’m afraid I can’t help them with that.

No never wear makeup.
