To ask if you're wearing makeup today?

It's my pre-Xmas pamper day today - I've got a hairdressers appointment at 11, then popping to get my upper lip waxed (glam!) then going to get a pedicure. I'm unusually barefaced and look wrecked after a long, stressful month at work Grin

DD17 has just asked me if I'm putting makeup on before I go out and when I said no I got an eyebrow lift!

Are you a bare faced beauty (or, like me, beast) today or AIBU and should go and put my face on before I scare any small children... ?

No makeup for me today. I’ve just been out to the shops and had a quick browse around town but I’m happy to go makeup-free on days like this. I usually just curl my eyelashes to make me look awake!

I'm still wearing last nights make up (meal out) because I didn't wash my face before bed and I'm not dressed yet - does that count? 😂

After I sort myself out then no, no make up today. Make up on special occasions because I just CBA every day. My attitude nowadays is that my face is my face and you can like it or lump it.

Snap with the last nights make up 😆

GretchenWienersHair · 21/12/2024 11:13

I only wear makeup when I’m going out out. But at 17, I wore makeup every day. Priorities change!

ChristmasinBrighton · 21/12/2024 11:13

I had planned a bare faced pyjama day in preparation for hosting from tomorrow.

Then late last night one of the DC announced they had been offered a lift to come back a day early!

So I am counter balancing you OP don’t worry. I had to go out and buy ingredients for “proper dinner” tonight rather than the porridge I had planned. I thought I may as well go all out, so I’m in Christmas jumper and velvet skirt and boots, and “double wear face”

Enjoy your pampering day.

Nc546888 · 21/12/2024 11:15

I wear make up around 50% of the time (and I used to work in the beauty industry!!! For over a decade)

please don’t feel like you have to wear make up every day, it’s liberating to be able to be bare faced sometimes and women shouldn’t be judged for it (men aren’t!!)

ChristmasinBrighton · 21/12/2024 11:15

Interesting how some of us, myself included, are far less likely to wear makeup since covid. Yet another shift.

cariadlet · 21/12/2024 11:16

I haven't bothered with make up for years. I don't think my 20 year old dd has ever seen me wearing it so I'd probably get an eyeroll if she saw me putting it on.

DappledThings · 21/12/2024 11:17

Nope, never do. Even in my early 20s when I would wear some if I was going out in the evening it wouldn't occur to me to wear it in the day or to go out to the shops.

BlackChunkyBoots · 21/12/2024 11:17

I don't generally wear makeup at all because I don't like how it feels. Also I'm a terrible person for habits so will touch my face or rub my eyes or otherwise ruin my makeup anyway. I have piggy eyes which doesn't help.

I might buy a mascara or a new lipstick as a treat sometimes but I rarely use it and it ends up mouldering in the bottom of my drawer.

ilovesooty · 21/12/2024 11:19

No. I haven't worn make up for years and don't own any. I do have my nails done though.

AyeYCan · 21/12/2024 11:20

No, but I rarely wear any unless I'm going out. Never have really, just can't be bothered with it (and a drunk homeless person once told me how refreshing it was to see a young woman with no make up on, and i was beautiful without it, and it stayed with me - 30 years later 😂)

I always think the women on I'm a celebrity look so much better when they're in camp and have no make up on vs in their promo photos/at the coming out party! It was interesting this year to see the contrast with the ones who had permanent make up vs the ones with none.

RabbitsRock · 21/12/2024 11:20

I have a bagful of make up but haven’t worn any for a long time. Got out of the habit during the pandemic. I wouldn’t put any on if I was being waxed anyway.

Yes, it was 'during' Covid that I changed too.

I've always been light-touch but before Covid I'd wear some make up every day if leaving the house - mascara, concealer etc.

During Covid I had nowhere to go and stopped. And when everything started again, I never went back. 5 years ago the thought of going to the office totally bare-faced would have horrified me, now I couldn't care less.

I've never been sure if it was 'because' of Covid or just that I happened to reach a certain, more confident age in the same times timespan (I'm 38 now).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/12/2024 11:24

I’m lying in bed with the cat right now - so no makeup. DP’s got a drinks/football thing shortly, and I am meeting my gay best friend for a fabulous lunch and cocktails this afternoon, and I will absolutely be wearing makeup for that!

youve987456 · 21/12/2024 11:25

Only wear make up to go to work and out with friends.

imnotthatkindofmum · 21/12/2024 11:26

Nope! Make up is for work when I feel haggard. Happy to be home on a Saturday! Saying that I'm not going anywhere so I probably won't be showering til later either.

BestIsWest · 21/12/2024 11:27

Not yet but I’m still in my dressing gown drinking coffee and watching Saturday kitchen. Going to have a shower soon. I might put on a bit of mascara and eyeliner later.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 21/12/2024 11:29

No. I never wear makeup.

BlueSky2023 · 21/12/2024 11:30

I nearly always wear at least a bit of makeup up when leaving the house

I never wear heavy makeup though so it really Dosen’t take that long and I no longer wear a full face of foundation

AnyoneSomeone · 21/12/2024 11:30

Yes, mascara and eyeliner. I rarely leave the house without it.

Soxersandbocks · 21/12/2024 11:31

InWithThePlums · 21/12/2024 10:21

Well men don’t bother do they? And I don’t think they worry about scaring small children.

(but yes, I am wearing makeup 😂)

🙄

Iheartmysmart · 21/12/2024 11:32

I love makeup and wear it every day but have really scaled back to just a bit of tinted moisturiser, blusher and mascara now. A far cry from my goth days when painting my face took hours. However I have just been out and was filling my car up with petrol when I noticed I still had my slippers on so perhaps that’s evened things out a bit.

PontiacFirebird · 21/12/2024 11:34

No, but my eyebrows are micro bladed and as long as I have decent eyebrows I'm ok. I normally wear makeup but went out yesterday in a rush without it and someone commented how great my skin looked so maybe I won't bother anymore Xmas Grin.
I used to always wear lots of eyeliner but the older I get the more it makes me look like a transvestite so I'm thinking less is more now...

BlackBean2023 · 21/12/2024 11:35

Onlycoffee · 21/12/2024 10:41

Not yet but why is your 17 year old so judgemental of you? Or was it surprise?

I think it goes with the territory of daughters... my youngest is 8 and is far more judgemental than her elder sister normally!

Sitting under the heat lamp dosing and feeling smug and not in the least bit self conscious so perhaps I'll make it a usual thing in 2025!

Don’t wear make up as such but a poreless primer is my friend on tired days.
