To ask if you're wearing makeup today?

It's my pre-Xmas pamper day today - I've got a hairdressers appointment at 11, then popping to get my upper lip waxed (glam!) then going to get a pedicure. I'm unusually barefaced and look wrecked after a long, stressful month at work Grin

DD17 has just asked me if I'm putting makeup on before I go out and when I said no I got an eyebrow lift!

Are you a bare faced beauty (or, like me, beast) today or AIBU and should go and put my face on before I scare any small children... ?

FuzzyPuffling · 21/12/2024 10:39

No. I'm post catarct surgery so can't wear make up for at least 4 weeks.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 21/12/2024 10:40

I only tend to wear mascara but this weather is drying out my skin so I keep putting a bit of tinted moisturiser on as well.

KittenPause · 21/12/2024 10:40

So no I'm currently not wearing any make up

Onlycoffee · 21/12/2024 10:41

Not yet but why is your 17 year old so judgemental of you? Or was it surprise?

TheNewElite · 21/12/2024 10:41

Yeah nothing but a full face will do or you’ll scare the horses

anonny55 · 21/12/2024 10:42

No way. Working 10hrs today and I look like the walking dead

Berga · 21/12/2024 10:44

I'm still in my pyjamas.

LizzoBennett · 21/12/2024 10:45

Mid thirties. Wear make-up every day, including today. I have no plans to go out.

Fabulouslyunfabulous · 21/12/2024 10:46

Not yet but will do (still in pjs).

Enjoy your pamper day, it sounds lovely.

Notsuchafattynow · 21/12/2024 10:47

Yes, every day.

I wfh so spend my working day looking at my face on zoom.

But I do have piggy eyes that only look human with a bit of make up.

Lobstercrisps · 21/12/2024 10:48

I wear CC cream mascara and cream blusher to work.
But as it's Saturday and I'm only going to Waitrose, no makeup.

FWIW my 16yr old DD judges me completely. It goes with the territory of having a teenager. MY DD looks knockout, she won't walk the dog without makeup and hair done.

I do find that now I'm in my late 40s eyeshadow looks ludicrous.

ToomanyMilesAway · 21/12/2024 10:49

If I'm not going out then no make up otherwise never leave home without it!

mitogoshigg · 21/12/2024 10:49

Not yet, might not have got out of my dressing gown yetGrin. But I will because I'm singing in a concert tonight and I'm going to make an effort, I don't wear make up day to day

ShortyShorts · 21/12/2024 10:50

No because I'm not working today.

If I was, I'd wear eyeliner and mascara.

It's not much but it makes my 56 year old face look a bit less tired and when I look awake, I feel awake.

Marblesbackagain · 21/12/2024 10:50

Interesting topic, I was just thinking last week that I very often leave the house without makeup these days. Which is something I never would have done younger.

Not for anyone else just myself and to be fair it wasn't particularly much. Nearly 50 and finally embracing the dark shadows under my eyes and not buying the 7 million things that won't work 🤣

TheGoogleMum · 21/12/2024 10:52

I very rarely wear makeup. I actually just yesterday ordered a foundation to try from il makiage though perhaps a bit foolishly.
I think it's probably better to be makeup free for the wax?

mitogoshigg · 21/12/2024 10:52

Neither of my now adult DD's wear make up day to day either nor my dsd, I'm so pleased they haven't been sucked into this world where make up is essential, if we all are heading to the local pub we are all often make up free, as are many of the other women around here too I should add.

oustedbymymate · 21/12/2024 10:54

Bare faced at the hairdressers

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/12/2024 10:56

Yep, but pretty light, barely noticeable. Some cc cream, blush, mascara. I’m at the hairdressers so I don’t want to look like death warmed up staring back at me for an hour or so. Though the light here is very grey, so that’s a hard look to avoid.

Sinkintotheswamp · 21/12/2024 10:59

I don't own make up. Just slapped some facial oil on after a run and I'll brush my eyebrows and that'll be it.

CandiedPrincess · 21/12/2024 10:59

I wear make up everyday, even if I am not leaving the house. I just feel more "ready". I've been off sick with flu this week and I still put my make up on. I did it straight after my c-section too Blush it just makes me feel better about myself and less tired, even if it has no effect really - it just does on my mentally.

Same! I’ve been like this since I was a teenager. I have relaxed with it slightly since having DC but I still feel ‘better’ when I wear it, less tired somehow! I think part of it is just the ritual of applying the make up.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 21/12/2024 11:07

Pre-lockdown and WFH I’d never have left the house without make up. I’d even slap some on if I was expecting the plumber or a parcel.

Not now! I definitely look older and less pulled together without it (and though no one’s actually keeled over in shock I can see by some people’s expressions that they’re quite taken aback by the ‘real’ me because I’ve never been one of those women who look great au naturel), but honestly it’s a relief that I no longer dislike how I look barefaced, and nor do I care what anyone else thinks.

If I was still going into an office I’d make the effort, and I obviously do if I’m going out somewhere, but I will quite happily go out and about day-to-day just as I am. And since today is dog-walking, Christmas cooking and collecting family from the station, it’s definitely a no slap day for me!

MauveVelcro · 21/12/2024 11:09

I'm still wearing last nights make up (meal out) because I didn't wash my face before bed and I'm not dressed yet - does that count? 😂

After I sort myself out then no, no make up today. Make up on special occasions because I just CBA every day. My attitude nowadays is that my face is my face and you can like it or lump it.

leia24 · 21/12/2024 11:10

No I don't really wear makeup except for work and nights out. I'm getting my hair done today though so currently looking like something that was just dug up while sitting in front of the mirror
