She was wonderful. So talented.

ChimpiestoftheChimps · 19/12/2024 22:33

I've been doing my Christmas rewatch of the Royle family Christmas specials, she was a very talented actress and her writing was excellent - the queen of sheba is just spot on, and makes me cry!

comedycentral · 19/12/2024 22:33

She was amazing, loved her as Mrs Merton!

Datgal · 19/12/2024 22:33

Absolutely amazing 🤩. And making me want to watch royle family all over again.

Turneresque · 19/12/2024 22:34

Just watched it and cried. She was a wonderful talent.

Lovewilltearusapartagain · 19/12/2024 22:38

Royle family was fantastic, the episode where she has a baby and The queen of Sheba were real tearjerkers
Makes me miss my Northern childhood

Just finished watching it. She was a fantastic writer and it was a very moving programme. I remembered some of the mrs Merton interviews but had forgotten the one with Chris Eubank - I had a snort of laughter

iamaMused · 20/12/2024 07:38

I had the great fortune to meet her in real life on a few occasions and she was a lovely lady, polite and unassuming, she said that she had worked at the BBC before she became known as a writer/actress and there had been several celebrities who had as much talent as they had manners (her words) and when she was Mrs Merton it was her way of bringing them down to earth.
A great talent gone to soon.

grafittiartist · 20/12/2024 07:40

What a great documentary that was!
The affection that her friends had for her was beautiful.
Such a clever talent.

deeahgwitch · 20/12/2024 08:27

She was brilliant.
One talented lady.
She died far too young.
Ricky Tomlinson (Jim Royle) was interviewed on The Meaning of Life on RTE1 television recently and he said she had always wanted children so the episode where she has the baby was very poignant.

Hope she's cracking them up in Heaven.

WTAFisthisnonsense · 20/12/2024 08:41

I think it was Craig Cash's emotional testimony that said it all. She was a talented, lovely woman who suffered so much.
Thank you Caroline you made us laugh and cry with your brilliance.

I never looked at her the same after reading this article. It was in several newspapers at the time ....

BitOutOfPractice · 20/12/2024 08:46

i don’t think I’ve watched this documentary. Where can I find it?

Such a funny woman. The writing on the Royle Family was superb. (I know it was a joint effort with Craig Cash. I love him too!)

OnlyWhenILaugh · 20/12/2024 08:47

It was a brilliant documentary. A fantastic tribute to an incredibly talented woman told with immense warmth and total honesty. The love felt by everyone was so strong.

BringMeTea · 20/12/2024 08:53

A truly lovely and funny and highly intelligent woman. 💙

God. That's difficult reading.
Craig Cash said she was 'troubled' but that account is of an abuser

Jifmicroliquid · 20/12/2024 09:37

She was a genius. It’s so sad that she was alone when she died.

We don’t know if that’s true though do we? He never said it while she was alive, so she can’t respond to it.
I think she had bi-polar possibly?

OP posts:
ManhattanPopcorn · 20/12/2024 10:29

I don't know what's true and what's not but for the sake of balance it should be included.

WalterdelaMare · 20/12/2024 10:33

I’ve seen that documentary, it’s fantastic. She was a huge talent and so loved by the people she knew.

Wow. 😮 Sounds like she had many, many issues then. Crikey

BringMeTea · 20/12/2024 21:16

I don't think Peter Hook is entirely reliable.

Was he a drinker too?
