What is this in this part of the abdomen?

Picture atttached! I know you don’t have xray vision but I have a persistent daily pain in this area for the past 6 weeks. It’s not severe but there on and off throughout the day. Feels a bit like someone poking a stick into it. I should probably see a GP but might have to break in there to see one. Any ideas?

The lines are ribs. It is an inch or two below the ribs on the left side.

Gallbladder?

awaits an expert

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:28

I think that’s on the right! But thank you

Your spleen?

vodkaredbullgirl · 19/12/2024 14:29

Any other symptoms?

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/12/2024 14:29

Diaphragm?

KimberleyClark · 19/12/2024 14:29

Hiatus hernia? Do you have heartburn/ acid reflux?

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:29

No other symptoms, no constipation, digestive issues etc.

No bulge I can see like a hernia (I’m slim)

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:31

No heartburn or acid reflux.

Could be spleen but I thought that was further up in the ribs 🤔

Um - I really think you should see a doctor. Most of us are not medically trained and your diagram may not be clinically accurate! Hope you get it sorted.

Birch101 · 19/12/2024 14:32

Pancreas?

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:32

Thanks. I will try to see one but it’s not easy and everyone I know has flu right now

OP posts:
Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:33

Pancreas thought scares me a bit because that’s never something good

That is your stomach. If you have persistant pain you really need to see your gp. Be prepared to give a clear history of your diet and whether it alters your symptoms and whether you have any change in bowel habit and colour/ consistency of stools.

endofthelinefinally · 19/12/2024 14:37

All the other anatomical suggestions are incorrect.

AmateurNoun · 19/12/2024 14:37

Gallbladder is on the other side. Pancreas in the middle. Stomach seems most likely (although I'm not a doctor).

You need to see a doctor really. Try 111 as they will often make you an appointment if they think you need to be seen.

Ulcer

AppleBlossomMay · 19/12/2024 14:42

A stomach ulcer perhaps? Hope you can see a GP asap to find the cause, whatever it may be.

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:44

Thanks. It really doesn’t “feel” like my stomach (nothing like normal stomach ache, not affected by eating). I think I probably need an ultrasound of that area, which would show if there’s anything obviously not right. I just dread the process of getting a GP appointment and then the process of explaining it all to them etc. I wish there was a way to get an ultrasound without a referral (I know AIBU)

stomach, pancreas and spleen

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 14:45

I hadn’t considered an ulcer 🤔 I assumed that would feel like burning/ acid rather than a poking feeling

DodgyCousins · 19/12/2024 14:47

It's not really as simple as 'this bit hurts, what's in there?', especially when you're not having any other symptoms. The abdomen contains many organs and structures, and pain can be referred from other areas. The only way you will get to the bottom of this is with medical attention. Good luck x

endofthelinefinally · 19/12/2024 14:55

Nobody can diagnose over the internet. Can you do an online consult, or ask for a phone call if you can't get a f to f? The doctor will most likely ask you to come in to be examined.

Serendipsocks · 19/12/2024 15:05

Thank you I know you're right. I will try to get a face to face for after Christmas. The pain is not at all severe so I am not alarmed about getting seen quickly, I just thought it would have gone after a while but it has continued.
