To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

@ChallahPlaiter what about the impact on people that live here or doesn't that matter? They've screwed over the WASPI women after supporting them when they were in opposition.

And what about the entire generation of people who will never be able to retire?

Yes what happened sucks. But for the sake of £3k per person, there are much bigger problems.

TizerorFizz · 18/12/2024 07:42

@mitogoshigg You actually buy into that rubbish? All governments have choice about which voters they piss off. Making the harder up pensioners worse off very early in this parliament was crass. The applications for benefits is now sky high. They gave billions £ to doctors and won’t see any nhs improvements for that. They have no idea how to get value for money. It’s money to placate unions but union unrest will start all over agein shortly. What thrn? Take more money from pensioners?

beetr00 · 18/12/2024 07:42

@TizerorFizz "Gordon Broen didn’t win a general election as leader of the Labour Party either"

and what about John Major, Theresa May and Boris Johnson (2019),Truss and Sunak, didn't win* by general election. All *Conservatives?

Are you kidding? They have only been in power and are now cleaning up the mess. Not sure what else you expect to see happen here??

So if Starmer had said before the election that he would remove the winter fuel allowance from millions of pensioners, add inheritance to family farms and family businesses, council tax & energy price increases, raise university tuition fees, plaster mass-scale solar panels on thousands of acres of prime farmland despite huge local community objections, spaff £22bn of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines, give £3bn a year of taxpayers’ money to Ukraine, betray WASPI women, hang out with BlackRock, pledge a 20% cut in meat & dairy and get exposed for receiving over £100,000 worth of freebies - you would have been ok with that? He fooled the electorate. And still he lectures all of us in that gratingly sanctimonious manner of his that we are all somehow the problem here and he is "fixing" the country.

Exactly this

TizerorFizz · 18/12/2024 07:46

@beetr00 There are more conservatives because they are in power for loads more years. Teresa May fought an election as leader. So did Johnson. So did Major. They all more or less won. Brown lost. The whole point is that Parties appoint their leaders. The electorate doesn’t. When parties want a new leader, they can appoint one. Every party.

AngelinaFibres · 18/12/2024 07:53

Regarding the winter fuel allowance. My husband volunteers with CAB. Most of the pensioners who seek help because they have lost
the WFA are finding ( through help from CAB) that they are entitled to lots of benefits they haven't been claiming ( carers allowance etc). The 3 couples he dealt with last week have lost the 300 but have gained, between them, £16,000 per year that they hadn't been claiming.

And that's how it should be.

Those who need help should be getting that help, and those who don't, shouldn't.

Waiting to see if I can buy some Xmas presents for my kids.

Let’s all hope Giles and Arabella get their ski passes this year after all 🤞

What a nasty ignorant comment. I bet you think you’re hilarious.
Taxing education is wrong.

Being able to buy a better education for kids is what is wrong. All kids should have equal access to the same education. Fuck private schools.

The very bitter and jealous people who makes these ignorant remarks can't see the bigger picture and are often uneducated themselves.

So predictable with the "jealous" comments. It's laughable. My DS didn't need private school, he put in the work and he's studying to become a vet from a state school education. Very proud of him.

Are you ok? Your posts are just personal attacks so carry on. No contribution to the issues at hand thus proving the previous poster’s point. It’s not my fault if people choose to ignore all fiscal news.

Edited

they are absolutely not personal @Aduvetday

We just have a difference of opinion, surely.

Punocchio · 18/12/2024 08:08

If you didn't feel this way with Johnson and Co then yes, YABU and this is ridiculous hyperbole. Get a life.

Alltheunreadbooks · 18/12/2024 08:15

Do these right wing bots not realised how stupid their posts sound?

Living through 14 years of corrupt, dishonest, self serving incompetence and NOW they are worried!

The grown ups are in charge now, doing what's best for the country and not themselves and their mates. Sorry if rich old granny & grandpa in their 5 bed detached house and 4 foreign holidays a year have their totally unnecessary heating allowance taken off them.

My DS1 is smashing it at a state school (got his first GCSE (a 9) at age 13. But my DS2 goes to a private school that meets his particular needs. All children are not the same and they need different things from the education system. It boils my blood that people like you justify VAT on school fees because their child did well at state school. Basically you are saying fuck any child that doesn’t do well in the state system.

Good to hear and you should be very proud however, no need to mock those who chose the private route. Everyone should have a choice and for the record, my children attended state school and are doing very well in their chosen careers but that doesn't make me want to disrespect people who pay for their children's education.

And how about my dad who lives in a small flat and has an income that is just above the pension credit amount. Is it OK that he loses the WFA?

Triptastico · 18/12/2024 08:21

Why do PP keep trotting out the mantra "the grown ups are in charge now"?

It's not the people I have the issue with, it's the system itself. I believe it is unfair that education can be bought. Children cannot choose their parents, a good education for all children should be a basic right and all on a level playing field.

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/12/2024 08:22

I am not sure they have blatantly lied, you could argue that they have misled to some degree.

I'm not delighted either but you can't disagree that the tories lied quite blatantly, especially over Brexit, which is the single biggest economic disaster ever to happen to his nation barring the world wars.

I think KS is probabl doing as Tony Blair advised and trying to get all the bad news out of the way first.I don't like any of it but he hasn't exactly got pots of money to work with does he. It was a case of making the least bad choices. I am fairly confident as things stand that the economy will be in a better place at the end of the five years than it was at the start.

Living in a small flat doesn't mean he's badly off. In fact to be frank it probably means his home retains warmth better.
