To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

1000 replies

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

Out of interest do you do the voluntary increased monthly income tax contribution to HMRC? Easy to do via direct debit
Or do you just prefer spending other people's money when it comes to taxation?

I’m an ordinary person who pays tax and uses public services

Nordione1 · 19/12/2024 15:28

ChallahPlaiter · 19/12/2024 15:22

No I’m not because I don’t see tax as a punishment. I see it as a contribution.

Interesting approach. You seem to be saying that equality of opportunity means equality of the opportunity to pay the tax man a load of your hard earned cash. Do you happen to work for HMRC out of interest?

ChallahPlaiter · 19/12/2024 15:29

Nordione1 · 19/12/2024 15:26

Yes. No. Thanks to Labour revealing the hypocrisy of "equality" for all I think that argument has had its day. Ironic really that it took a socialist government to reveal the weakness. As in we are all equally stuffed apart from a chosen few favourites. Remember the Rule of The Socialist. Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.

Equity then.

Sorry, I don’t answer personal questions online.

Dealingwithatrexrightnow · 19/12/2024 15:29

I voted labour and I had high hopes, the Waspi thing was the nail in the coffin. I will never vote labour again.

So same as me then. Yet you think it's fair to tax me an extra 20% for taking the burden of educating my child off the state. I earn 35K so think I classify as an ordinary person.

Thank you for proving my point though. Socialists always happy to spend other people's money!
You said you view tax as a positive contribution though so why aren't you personally happy to pay more in order to improve public services?

LlynTegid · 19/12/2024 15:32

I did not vote Labour, I have never voted Tory. I do not agree with some of the government decisions, for example I would have ended the temporary fuel duty cut before any change to the winter fuel allowance.

However poor they are, nowhere near as bad that of the Tories especially under Boris Johnson or Liz Truss.

No, they just want others to pay more tax. They don't think that they need to

Well no, I’ve explained my stance - apart from your lazy assumption that I’m a socialist. What I’ve taken care to explain has little to do with your twisted interpretation. Do you see any further point in continuing to engage with me?

SharpOpalNewt · 19/12/2024 15:33

OP, did you not worry about where we were heading with the previous government? I was apoplectically angry with them and am so relieved they are gone. It is going to take years to sort out their mess.

"Twisted interpretation" because I don't agree with you?

I always assume that people who SAY they are keen to pay more tax either are idealogical fanatics (so you cant reason with them) or don't pay any tax anyway or are rich enough for it not to affect them. Or are pretending for the purposes of argument on mumsnet, safe in the knowledge No One Will Ever Know......

Oh and you think Cameron, Johnson and Sunak didn't spend taxpayer's money?

They poured trillions of our money down the drain on Brexit, dodgy Covid contracts, and ridiculous unworkable policies.

They claimed to take back our borders but opened them up to the biggest influx of immigrants from outside Europe there has ever been.

100s of times on here you say people say they are happy to pay more tax yet I believe only 100 across UK are registered with HMRC for the voluntary increased contribution.
They always think someone else should pay more tax, just not them.

But we aren't talking about the Tories. We are talking about Labour.
FYI I've never voted Tory but you need to stop the "whataboutery"

Whereas right wing capitalists are so wonderful and lovely and always have society's interests at heart and not their own private self interest, oh no.

They have just ruined the country for the last 14 years.

Of course it's relevant.

You do realise that this Government don't have a magic money tree and they are dealing with the financial position the last lot left us in, right?

How are Labour's policies which are stagnating growth, see BoE statement today, and lowering jobs helping?

Oh fgs stop with soundbites
That's part of the whole problem. Labour ran the election on meaningless slogans and soundbites without due diligence etc. Part of the reason they have had to re-launch after 3 months in office!
Tories were shit and Labour so far have been shit whilst doing smoke and mirrors behind blaming ideological choices on the Tories.

No I can’t because I didn’t say rich parents would improve schools.

We were talking about the effect of VAT on private schools and the fact that more people will send their children to state schools as the fees will now be too much.
Therefore it’s pretty obvious that the people who will in this case be using state schools are those who were well off enough to pay fees until the addition of VAT which were the people you were referring to when you said they’d improve state schools.
