To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

We all need to get behind this government and make sure it works for us, regardless of who you voted for, or this country really will go down the gurgler.
Get real.

When you say "get behind this government" what do you mean? Just talk? Because there's not much an employer or a business owner or a farmer or a parent of a young person looking for work or a landlord or a tenant looking for a private rental or a soldier needing a boarding school for their kids or a pensioner looking to keep warm can do to get behind this government, when this government is instead right behind them royally shafting them. We can only mark time until the next election and then I suspect most people will really not feel like getting behind this particular government.

I don't understand these types of remarks. What does getting behind a government look like? They will do as they please regardless of public opinion. Why would anyone support a government that is taking us into a recession? If you were a pensioner, WASPI woman, landlord, farmer, business owner you'd justly be pissed off.

Exactly, old laughing emoji pp aside most won’t be crying tears of joy over a recession

I am not insulting you @EasternStandard , I just recognise you and your posting style form many threads like this.

There is nothing I could ever say to convince you, so I wonder why you respond is all.

Exactly Labour have alienated huge sections of the population already. Not likely these these people are going to “get behind them”, why should they?

pointythings · 18/12/2024 20:01

Pensioners: WFA cutoff should have been set higher but is a good idea in principle.

WASPI women: Were they not paying attention when all this was going down? I'm not a WASPI woman but I was here when this decision was made and I knew about it. I'm no genius, I just keep up with the news.

Landlords: Have had it their own way long enough - if they're good landlords, they'll be fine.

Farmers: Managed before 1984 when this was brought in, have very favourable terms for IHT payment that the rest of us don't get.

Business owners: There need to be arrangements and incentives for small businesses but otherwise, the money has to come from somewhere. Maybe they should get tougher with the government on Brexit and trade, that would help.

I can hear it now, 'Brexit is why we are in a recession' of course.

Right and here we are. The thread is about being worried about what Labour will do next. ES is worried and saying why. So why do you think they shouldn’t post on a thread about exactly that? Why do you feel that you must convince and no-one at all can be justifiably worried? Are the only people allowed to post on MN now - ones that don’t want to ask questions of Labour?

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 18/12/2024 20:04

Of course you were

Convince me of what exactly?

I didn't vote for Brexit and I've said before one thing I would have been interested in pre GE was a big move on that

Labour's budget is impacting the private sector, I don't need to read your posts just look at easy to access S&P report, PMI figures, CCI and ONS

On the flip side I'll ask you why you those reports and figures won't convince you that Reeves and the budget have had this clear impact?

You are as wedded to absolving Labour when there's plenty of info saying what's causing contractions if you as you put it, look it up

AgnesX · 18/12/2024 20:06

What did you expect really. Labour to wave a magic wand and make everything rosy?

No, you’re being personal now.

Really?

And honestly is £1-3k going to make a significant difference to to lives of many of these women if their pension plans were utterly ruined by the change in retirement date? Will it make up for additional years working or fill the gap in their pension funds? We don’t have money kicking around to pay for the principle of the thing, which is what that feels like.

Maybe we could take the £10billion it would cost out of the education budget, or health maybe, or social care.

This personal attack isn't useful why do it?

If you are as wedded to Labour as you sound then up to you, I don't get why anyone would be but it's your loyalty

A recession will impact everyone

Of course not. But we didn't expect them to wave a shit stick and make everything worse. Well... I did... but I'm sure there are many Labour voters out there feeling extremely let down.

Yes, that’s a personal attack on Eastern Standard and quite uncalled for. You can laugh emoji all you like. Let’s see what MNHQ say.

Hard decisions that had to be made. But we will give train drivers and public sector pay rises.

And in doing so end years of disruptive industrial dispute which also costs the economy when people can’t get to where they need to be or have their operations cancelled.

Re trains, I posted somewhere else today that it looks like Avanti train managers are planning to strike. So that’s the West Coast mainline affected again possibly for months. I guess the train managers want a similar deal to the one the drivers were given. So Labour solved one dispute by agreeing to a pay rise and predictably another set of workers in the same industry now want the same deal.

Mnhq only delete if you resort to personal attack

Maybe go for reasoned debate over attacks

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 18/12/2024 20:20

The same could be said for me then, since I know her so well 😂
