Eaten raw chicken- can I do anything?

DH served up a (pre made, cooked from frozen) chicken kyiv with chips tonight. I cut into the kyiv, dipped a load of chips into the garlic butter that ran out, and ate a slice, not looking at it, as I was just looking at the crispy outside coating. Cut it open a bit more and realised it was completely raw inside. 😫

Obviously my AIBU is, AIBU to murder DH for this.

But more practically, is there anything that I can do? Do I just need to wait for the vomiting to start? Is it likely I'll be really ill?

I guess I didn't eat a huge amount, maybe about 20% of the kyiv, but I also had a lot of the garlic butter which would have been all over the raw chicken.

Nothing you can do sorry

I've done the exact same. DH accidentally grilled a kyiv instead of cooking it. Served it up and I took a couple of bites, noticed a weird texture and saw it was completely raw and pink inside. I panicked but I was completely fine.

In Japan raw chicken is a thing, like sashimi with chicken instead of fish. Raw chicken doesn't automatically make you ill.

ScupperedbytheSea · 20/12/2024 08:38

You'll likely be fine. I've done similar and had no issues.

Equally, I've also had camylobacter poisoning. It was the worst I've ever felt. At one point I napped while on the toilet because it seemed easier than walking back to bed (which in a small flat was only about 20 foot away).

On the brightside, I lost two stone in five days. Highly effective way to kick off a new year diet 😊

Always a bright side, eh?

Still fine so beginning to think I have escaped. It might just be a Christmas miracle!

Hmmm be careful about Christmas miracles... have you started to notice any whiskers growing on your cheeks, your hair colour changing to a gorgeous red brown and finding yourself looking longingly at any chicken pens you see??

You get ill, you're ill, you don't your are not. Jeez.

Porcuporpoise · 20/12/2024 20:27

Fingers crossed OP 🤞

Bambooozle · 22/12/2024 00:18

I'm still ok!

Does this mean I've swerved everything now? Surely nothing would take more than 4 days to take effect?

Yep you're sweet!

Eating raw chicken doesn’t mean you WILL get food poisoning

the chicken has to actually have salmonella in it

Bambooozle · 24/12/2024 08:21

Still fine! Big thanks to all the people on the thread who took the time to reassure me, Mumsnet can be a great place.
