I'm 36 and according to my sister my car ages me ten years. Wtaf?! It's an Audi a6 estate. So yes, a "mum car". But is this a thing?!

OP posts:

I’m 44. I have a Discovery sport, an older discovery 3 for the dirty work and and Audi S5 convertible for the summer. I also bought a little Toyota Aygo X this year. It’s a 2024 plate so the tech inside is fine but it is still a tin can. You can tell it was only £17k. No door cards and just cheap all round. I bought it to park in the multi story when I go to my nearest city. It does its job but sits on the drive the rest of the time. It’s not a comfortable drive.

What are door cards?

HelloWorldItsNiceToMeetYou · 15/12/2024 20:01
  1. We have a Dacia sandero and a Dacia Duster. Whoever has the kids with them uses the bigger car. We wanted something newish, cheap, reliable with low running costs. We bought them when they were 3 and 4 years old and have had both for 3 years with no problems.

I was a bit dubious as it's not such a well established manufacturer but have been very happy.

The sandero in particular costs very, very little to run.

Honestly it's my favorite car i have owned, I had a fiat 500 before hand and had endless issues, my juke is actually older than my fiat and I've had 0 problems with it :)

That is wonderful to hear and a massive relief. I’ve had Hyundai previously and they’ve been absolutely fantastic so this was a bit of a step into the unknown for me.

LadyoftheCheeses · 15/12/2024 20:07

@KhakiSheep mines also an R-Sport 😂 but I still get the jokes!

jackstini · 15/12/2024 20:09

52 - Tesla Y

My favourite cars that made me feel young were Audi A4 convertible - age 31, BMW 430 convertible - age 43

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/12/2024 20:29

tobee · 15/12/2024 20:57

Citroen C4 Picasso and I'm 56 fwiw.

I love cars but I'm aware that it's not obvious from my current choice. I like a French car though!

I find car snobbery/agism/one-upmanship tedious and baffling! I don't care about makes of cars and neither does dh. We have a Vauxhall Mokka and a VW Up.

And yet, here you are, contributing to this thread, adding your car make.

Cismyfatarse · 15/12/2024 21:02

56 and I proudly drive the car of a 17 year old girl with rich parents.

A red Fiat 500.

I bloody love it. Fits in tiny spaces in the city.

CaptainBeanThief · 15/12/2024 21:02

Well... I'm 31 and drive a brand new Kia picanto GT.
It makes me laugh when you get 2 litre bwms / golfs/ auids thinking they are the be all and end alls up my arse thinking I'm a 70 year old Doris and i suddenly put my foot down.
Its how you drive a car 😏

dorsetdoll · 15/12/2024 21:10

I have three fiat 500's . Two are identical and the third is a LHD version. (one in England, one in Scotland and one in Italy)

dorsetdoll · 15/12/2024 21:10

Oh and I'm 56

I'm a wanker in a gillet apparently 😆
As obviously Range Rover drivers are all the same!

I need a big car 6 kids and 2 dogs.

I'll join you in the walker club
34 RR sport Personalised plate too
Freely admit I'm a wanker don't own a Gillet though might have to invest in one 🤔 didn't realise they were a compulsory purchase 🤣

CrushingOnRubies · 15/12/2024 21:34

Early 30s Toyota Aygo

EmmyPankhurst · 15/12/2024 21:35

mid 40s. Skoda Fabia (my car). Octavia Estate (borrowed in my second location).

The fabia is a luxury as I really don't need a car and I won't replace it when it dies but go back to car club.

If I used my car more often I think I'd have a midlife crisis car (the reason i get to drive the octavia is because my brother has just bought his midlife crisis car and unlike his previous sports car it is reliable/ weather tight enough to use as his daily driver so the estate car can be loaned out to feckless sisters).

38 and drive an Audi A1. I love her, it’s the first car I’ve ever owned that was brand new out of the factory so I could choose all the extras I wanted.
