The lady who plays casandra trotter in ofah
She's soooooo wooden

Owen Wilson (of meet the fockers/marley and me fame)
Cannot stand him and his whiney voice

The lady who played the eldest webster dd in corrie (Rosie?Sophie?)
Not watched it for years but my mother did so I saw bits in my teens/20's
She only had one face and was unbelievably awful at acting

Gwyneth Strong was Cassandra.

Agreed she's not great.

SiobhanSharpe · 14/12/2024 18:40

Emma Watson is terrible even in the TV perfume ads. (Gucci? Who knows.)

KnopkaPixie · 14/12/2024 18:40

Anne Hathaway. This brings us into a whole new category of "Actors we cannot criticise because they did something extreme for a rôle."

Olivia Coleman is great, she was the only good thing about Paddington in Peru!

Nicholas Cage's success is inexplicable to me, I find him awful but he's been in something like 115 movies so somebody must like him...

Hugh Grant is obviously terrible, he just basically plays himself.

Nicolas Cage is Francis Coppola's nephew which probably helps explain his success

MrsJoanDanvers · 14/12/2024 18:41

Just finished Jackal on tv-Eddie Redmayne makes the unbelievable very watchable but the actress who played Bianca was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Completely wooden and has open mouthed expression for everything. We are watching Shetland at the same time and the actress who plays Tosh is on a different level-so noticeable when watching side by side.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/12/2024 18:42

David Tennant. If he hadn’t been in Doctor Who, he would be on the tills in Lidl by now.

He only has two expressions and his voice is monotonous; recently he seems to have gone a bit mad, so he has added staring eyes to the repertoire.

RafaFan · 14/12/2024 18:42

Owen Wilson. Every performance is just toe-curling.

Emma Watson is terrible even in the TV perfume ads. (Gucci? Who knows.)

She was in a film (Colonia was the name, I think) with the amazing Daniel Brühl, and she managed to spoil that too.

Radionowhere · 14/12/2024 17:22

Keanu Reeves and Keira Knightley

Agreed. How on earth have they got away with it without everyone noticing?

MemorableTrenchcoat · 14/12/2024 18:44

W0tnow · 14/12/2024 18:22

Alec Baldwin, hands down! The most deadpan actor ever!

Really? He’s great in serious performances like The Hunt for Red October and Glengarry Glen Ross, but also excels in comic roles like 30 Rock.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 14/12/2024 18:44

Clive Owen. Shocking. To the extent I can’t really watch anything he’s in because he drags down the averages so badly.

I’m sure he’s a lovely guy, but on screen he’s always just a massive plank of wood in an early 90s overcoat.

Bazinga007 · 14/12/2024 18:44

Emma Watson
Sean Connery
Michelle Keegan

ObelixtheGaul · 14/12/2024 18:44

Bringing it closer to home (I am going to get shot for this, I am sure) but Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith Bynoe from Ghosts. Both wooden as wooden can be, though Kiell is better. To be honest, I didn't get the love for that series in general. Watched a couple of episodes and thought the 'comedy' was very dated (and not in the deliberate, send-up way of Benidorm), the script as a whole was dire.

Tusue · 14/12/2024 18:45

I totally can’t watch Hugh Grant-professional player of upper class twits and Sean Bean - professional Yorkshire man
and I’m from Yorkshire !.

Michelle Keegan - couldn't remember her name, and also Suranne Jones.

cavea · 14/12/2024 18:45

Leif Schreiber, he gives me the heebie jeebies
Daniel Radcliff, no range whatsoever
Rami Malek,
Kevin Costner

Are you joking? She's one of the best ever. Try Tyrannosaur or Flowers.

Yes, she is.Tyrannosaur, watched it a couple of times, because it was so good.Haven’t seen Flowers, will look into streaming it and definitely watch.I think it is harder for mature actresses always been the case and it just comes down to ageism.

WishinAndHopin · 14/12/2024 18:46

Thatcastlethere · 14/12/2024 17:56

Oh I really like Keira Knightley
People were so mean about her back in the day.. and she was like 16!! That wouldn't happen now I don't think. She was only 17 in Love Actually and the abuse she got!!
She's been in some interesting films. She was good in The Hole and I think she was great in Pride and Prejudice altho obviously Jennifer Ehle is the best Lizzie ever no contest

Agree. The hate she got for the Love Actually character is absurd. She didn’t write the script!

Not saying she’s the world’s best actress but she fitted in well Bend It Like Beckham and the Pirates of The Caribbean films. I can’t imagine anyone else in them.

There are far worse actors than Keira for sure. She has an idiosyncratic jaw and smile and I think people are irritated by it and think it’s exaggerated, but that’s just how her face actually is. I don’t mind her facial expressions so I don’t find her to be terrible.

The Rock is not a bad actor at all

He has made something out of v.little and an example of life gives you lemons, make lemonade

WilfredsPies · 14/12/2024 18:48

CalliopePlantain · 14/12/2024 17:58

Ryan Reynolds.

he just plays Ryan Reynolds in every movie he’s in.

He starred in one where he was buried alive (called ‘Buried’) and the majority of the film was just him in a coffin. He was quite good in that, but there wasn’t much opportunity for joking.

I’ve never seen Samuel L Jackson play anything other than Samuel L Jackson.

But HG has been totally brilliant in more recent stuff like The Gentlemen, where he’s playing against type. Agree the OG version - witless, stuttering upper class idiot - was insufferable in everything.

Adeel Akhtar. I didn't know his name but just googled him as I saw him in Black Doves recently. Every time he comes on the screen I'm " oh no...not him"

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/may/20/bafta-winner-adeel-akhtar-interview

Me too. I said that to my niece earlier todayGrin
