Please settle a debate in this household

Milk in before teabag taken out or milk in last?

Whose unreasonable here - I believe milk in before teabag

Teabag in
Water in
Stir
Wait
Milk in
Teabag out

This is how I do it.

Enjoy triple-microwaved tea, yum.

This.

Then spend ages online looking for answers to massive teastains that no amount of scrubbing, no magic eraser, and no product known to man can get out.

Nottogetapenny · 14/12/2024 00:27

Both! If I’m making tea in a cup or mug, I put the milk in last. If from a teapot, milk in first.

No milk. Milk ruins a good cup of tea.

Elbow Grease paste... Works an absolute treat on my bone china mug! And I've tried everything! Denture tablets work to an extent, but a good scrub out with the paste and a good rinse out, clean as a whistle!

SwordToFlamethrower · 14/12/2024 00:45

Please for the love of God, take the teabag out before you put the milk in!!!

SnowFrogJelly · 14/12/2024 00:45

Before so I can see how strong it is

Teabag in
Water in
Stir
Wait
Milk in
Teabag out

This.. but i purposely put less milk in than I need, then top it up after tea bag is out to make sure it's the perfect amount

SaagAloopa · 13/12/2024 19:44

If you put the milk in first the teabag doesn't get hot enough

This is correct. Milk cools the water to a temperature that black tea won’t brew properly.

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2024 02:17

Whether teapot or teabag, milk always goes in last.

Anything else is plain wrong.

Mamabearandcubs · 14/12/2024 02:44

Teabag
Water
Stir
Milk in
Teabag out

SparkleShineRainbow · 14/12/2024 03:33

OP are we talking about tea made in mug or in pot?
Basic principle is that the milk and tea leaves cannot be in at the same time. The milk prevents the tea from brewing. It’s partly because it cools the water, but more because of some science to do with lipids or suchlike which bind to the flavour molecules in the tea.
So.
making in mug: tea bag out before milk goes in. Milk first in the mug method DOES NOT MAKE YOU FANCY it makes you a nincompoop.
Making in pot: do what you want. I do milk last so you can control the milkiness.
Or just have it black.

teabag in, squeeze with spoon until teabag almost breaks and then milk. its the only way

faints

This whole thread needs a properly made cup of tea to even bear reading.

Maybe MN can add an advisory note to the title.

Brew
Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 14/12/2024 06:23

My chemistry teacher friend says milk last because the milk particles stop the process(osmosis, diffusion? I can’t remember at arse o clock) of the tea flowing through the bag properly. And it tastes funny.

I think there is some confusion on this thread about whether the milk is going in before the tea is brewed. Putting it in before brewing the tea is clearly madness but I think the OP was asking about putting the milk in once the tea has brewed but either before or after removing the teabag.

KimberleyClark · 14/12/2024 09:28

Milk last.

Blurrythunder · 14/12/2024 09:36

Brew tea first...
So milk in cup 1st if tea is brewed in a teapot.
Milk in last if tea is brewed in a cup... simples😉
