Please settle a debate in this household

Milk in before teabag taken out or milk in last?

Whose unreasonable here - I believe milk in before teabag

Milk last, tea tastes horrible if the milk goes in first and I can always taste which way the tea was made.

Atishooo · 13/12/2024 19:56

Last! I like strong tea.

If you put the milk in first it’s just weak and horrible.

HeddaGarbled · 13/12/2024 19:57

I like milk first because it reduces the scummy film.

My H likes milk last because you get a stronger brew.

So help me, I make mine my way and his his way.

Clarinet1 · 13/12/2024 19:57

Actually, it was fancy in the past to put the milk in last - because better quality china could take hotter water than cheaper china. I have heard that the royal family jokingly refer to the lower classes as “MIF” - milk in first!
At any rate, I think the proper way is milk in last.

No prelactarianism in this house. We won't stand for it.

WillowTit · 13/12/2024 19:58

teabag in
brew for several minutes
add milk, stir until desired strength

WillowTit · 13/12/2024 19:59

although milk in first is with tea from the pot, which is brewing in the pot

teatoast8 · 13/12/2024 19:59

Milk last

RosesAndHellebores · 13/12/2024 20:00

After if it's a teabag.

If tea is made in a pot, before.

HappiestSleeping · 13/12/2024 20:01

Milk in first reduces the temperature of the water and stops the tea brewing properly.

Much better to use a pot, milk can then go in the cup first if desired, and doesn't alter the water temperature in the pot.

Mintupp · 13/12/2024 20:03

Why the fuck would you put COLD milk on a tea bag... the tea bag is designed to have boiling water put on it, why would you ruin it by adding milk first!?!?!?

There is an argument as well as to whether you add the milk when the tea bag is still in the mug and I am also on team add milk last in that sense too!

paranoiaofpufflings · 13/12/2024 20:14

"I believe milk in before teabag"

This is a crime against tea.

mrspresents · 13/12/2024 20:15

Milk before water 😂 your tea wouldn't brew.
Tea bag (Glengetti) , sugar, water, wait, squeeze, takeout, splash of milk= perfect cup of tea!!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/12/2024 20:35

I don't drink tea. Milk first. I no longer get drawn into making tea.

Atishooo · 13/12/2024 20:41

I would rather just make my own than be given a bad cup of tea that I have to drink politely.

Nikitaspearlearring · 13/12/2024 20:46

Milk in last. And don't squeeze your tea bag! It releases the tannin and makes the tea taste bitter.

Lovelysummerdays · 13/12/2024 20:48

After you’ve taken out the teabag surely. From a pot though I put the milk in the cup first.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/12/2024 20:48

No milk. Ever.

UnctuousUnicorns · 13/12/2024 20:49

Milk, sugar and teabag in the mug, in the microwave to warm for thirty to forty seconds, then boiling water poured on. That's how I make my tea, anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Birch101 · 13/12/2024 20:49

Milk first

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/12/2024 19:35

Milk first for me. It tastes weird if you add the milk last. Milk after for all the others I live with.

It's because I was fancy in a past life. Milk needed to be first so the boiling water didn't crack the china.

Edited

In a cup, when you are pouring from the tea pot, maybe. Though China can take boiling water, so it’s bollocks anyway.
Tea needs boiling water to brew properly - you don’t put milk in first in a teapot, do you?

VivaVivaa · 13/12/2024 20:53

Milk and teabag should never meet! Bag in mug -add boiling water - 5 minute brew (no stirring) - take out bag - splash of milk and a stir.

Or even better, tea from pot into mug then add milk.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/12/2024 20:54

Irrelevant question because if you make your tea in the cup you are already a tea philistine. .

Onlyvisiting · 13/12/2024 20:54

You are very very wrong.
Tea bags or leaves should gave booking water poured on them, if you put the milk in first then they are just sat soaking up cold milk.
Milk in the mug first is fine if you are using a tea pot, if you are making in the mug then milk second. Always.
But don't leave it too long, if the tea stews for too long before the milk is added it looks weird as the temperature is all wrong.

That is one of the most vile things I've ever heard 🤣.
