to think this won't give my husband tits?

My H was about to go downstairs so I asked him to put my empty oestrogen gel bottle in the recycling.

He leapt back, and cried ' Aaargh! Aargh! I can't touch that! That is dangerous to me and the boys!' and ran down the stairs.
My sons says he has now told them they must never touch these bottles, not even if they get knocked onto the floor, as they are very dangerous for men and boys.

AIBU to think this is a compete over-reaction? There might be a small amount of trace oestrogen on the outside of the bottle, I guess, but such a teeny tiny amount as a one off is surely not going to make any man grow tits?

When I worked in pharmacy we had a chain-wide policy that we had to wear gloves when handling cytotoxins. Oestrogen gel is a cytotoxin. I would avoid someone else's gel and tell my DCs not to touch it either. 🤷‍♀️

Actually I've always wondered about this... I use vaginal oestrogen cream but we use condoms - I always wondered how long other women gave it before having intercourse after applying it 🤔

Seems the answer is you should leave it about an hour.

Would you not do this with any medication, especially gels?

Or potentially harmful cleaning products?

I don’t get his hysteria over this and not other potentially harmful products.

There is also a big difference between being exposed to something regularly because you work there vs touching the bottle once.

katseyes7 · 13/12/2024 14:14

My ex once came downstairs looking very concerned.
"You know that 'intimate wash' stuff?"
"Yeah?"
"It hasn't got any.... hormones.... in it, has it?"
I'm totally bemused.
"Hormones? No? Why?" It was from Superdrug, for god's sake.
He's frowning. "Well... I washed my bits with it, and...."
I mean. Seriously? And he wondered why l was laughing.

SassK · 13/12/2024 14:41

I'd be ripping the absolute pish out of him. Randomly ask him if he's accidentally come into contact with the gel, and answer never mind when he asks why. Wait a bit, ask again, and explain you think his voice has sounded a bit higher recently. And he's looking a bit nippier round the chesticles 😂

Evaka · 13/12/2024 14:48

Gobshite. Reminds me of my uncle in the 90s who took an evening primrose oil capsule and then panicked he was going to sprout baps.

tithusband · 13/12/2024 12:56

Don't be daft.

You are defending his concerns without understanding the context.

He is reacting to a small risk of a miniscule amount of trace oestrogen which may or may not be on the outside of a bottle after transference to get there, in a one off contact. In fact, I am not even sure he is reacting to that. He may not have considered that, and just be reacting to it being an oestrogen bottle.

All those defending him, are defending him by referring to different contexts.

I’d be making it clear he can never touch me again due to the risk. Certainly can’t have sex. There’s a risk.

Doing his laundry or prepping his food. Too much of a risk.

sharing a bathroom. Risky. What if he sits on the toilet and catches boobs?

he wouldn’t hear the end of my mock taking and it would become a standard joke until
he grew the f’k up.

devilspawn · 13/12/2024 14:54

You can herd him around now simply by picking up a bottle and waving it near him. Very useful in supermarkets.

ElaborateCushion · 13/12/2024 15:04

My husband asked me recently if I was taking the day off to go to the hospital for my regular smear test! He genuinely had no idea you could do it in your lunch break at your own GP surgery.

I was so incredulous I didn't even think that I could have made the most of this and actually had a day off to go and get a massage or something after my smear, all while he's thinking "poor EC, sitting in the hospital all day..."

I am pretty open with him about how the female body works, especially now I'm approaching peri age, so I think it just confirms what I've known all along - he just doesn't listen!

WearyAuldWumman · 13/12/2024 15:12

I'm betting that OP's DH has seen the Doc Martin episode where Celia Imrie's husband and boyfriend both grow breasts.

Outoftimeohno · 13/12/2024 16:36

Has he been watching the big bang theory?

SanFranByAir · 14/12/2024 00:57

@Calliopespa @Lobstercrisps
@Wallywobbles

There's no advice to avoid sex on either the leaflet or the NHS website, the advice is to use the cream internally before going to bed. The dosage for vaginal estrogen is far lower than transdermal estrogen. So I assume it is not an issue as there seems to be an abundance of caution when it comes to HRT and contraindications.

Lobstercrisps · 14/12/2024 17:51

@SanFranByAir thanks for clearing that up 😊

I did consider I was making my facial hair worse by applying my testosterone gel to my thigh and then using the same hand to apply my CC cream to my face. But I've been hairy since mid 30s and decided it couldn't get much worse 😂

tommyhoundmum · 14/12/2024 17:51

Your husband has an impressive imagination

InterestedDad37 · 14/12/2024 18:10

That's just weird! 🤔😂

Mumof3confused · 14/12/2024 18:37

Does he drink beer? Tell him beer contains oestrogen, too.

YANBU.
Your DH sounds like a ‘tit’ and I’d be making sure he doesn’t turn your sons into the same

fetchacloth · 14/12/2024 19:05

Sorry OP I laughed out loud when I read this 😂😂
I think the guys were overreacting much.

Teanbiscuits33 · 14/12/2024 19:19

Your husband sounds like a massive tit already.

FreebieWallopFridge · 14/12/2024 19:33

He needs to get a fucking grip.

OhcantthInkofaname · 14/12/2024 20:09

Remind him that the gel is on you.

delphinedupont · 13/12/2024 10:02

Is he the type who would never pick up a box of tampons, lest he should grow a vagina?

🤣🤣🤣 👌

Do you use regular condoms? I have just been prescribed estriol cream, and it says it can affect condoms (which we normally use). Only got the cream for the first time today, and wondering about if I need to go on the pill which I would rather not if at all possible

ETA have also looked at non latex online today, and they say not to use with oil based lube. It’s my understanding the cream is oil based 🤔

Donsyb · 14/12/2024 20:57

I’ve heard of men waking up and finding out their partners patch has come off in bed and ended up stuck to them, to my knowledge they are all perfectly fine 😂

Ohnobackagain · 14/12/2024 21:28

@tithusband better tell him not to touch you, just in case 🧐
