to think this won't give my husband tits?

My H was about to go downstairs so I asked him to put my empty oestrogen gel bottle in the recycling.

He leapt back, and cried ' Aaargh! Aargh! I can't touch that! That is dangerous to me and the boys!' and ran down the stairs.
My sons says he has now told them they must never touch these bottles, not even if they get knocked onto the floor, as they are very dangerous for men and boys.

AIBU to think this is a compete over-reaction? There might be a small amount of trace oestrogen on the outside of the bottle, I guess, but such a teeny tiny amount as a one off is surely not going to make any man grow tits?

It’s a bit of on overreaction on his part but I don’t know why everyone is mocking him quite so much. You should wear gloves when applying it to someone else. He is correct to be cautious. Although maybe not the squealing and recoiling but 😂 No one would laugh at him if he accidentally ingested a contraceptive pill and was concerned.

I am 100% with him for telling your DC never to touch the bottle (assuming they are children 😂). Secondary exposure to tiny amounts of testosterone or oestrogen gel from a parent’s skin or hair has caused precocious puberty, gigantism, increased bone age, and gynaecomastia in children. It’s a drug. A drug absorbed through the skin. I wouldn’t want my DC touching it.

He’s a man. That’s why he’s being mocked (and it’s not just the overreaction which is a bit much. I think a lot of posters are laughing at his concerns without understanding them)

Americano75 · 13/12/2024 12:45

I'm not sure he's entirely wrong you know.

First thing that came into my mind was 'right tit'.

DameCelia · 13/12/2024 11:11

Hang on a second @Calliopespa . Are you saying that the OP, and every other sexually active woman on HRT gel, should be showering it off and therefore not benefitting from it whenever she has sex? How would that work?

No I wasn’t saying that. I was referencing his concern about any stray drops on the outside of the bottle and pointing out there are other forms of transmission that would pose a greater risk.

But now you shine the spotlight on the showering issue, I guess with freshly applied gel ( ie: shower, gel, jump into bed together) showering ( or not applying it right then) would be a sensible precaution. In terms of your objection about “not getting the benefit,” unless you are having sex all day and night long I can’t see how this would be an issue: just put it on after. An hour or so without it wouldn’t make any difference .

Yes it gets really boring this “ mock him cos he’s male” comments. It feels like being stuck in a 7 year old’s “ Stinky Boys Keep Out” treehouse club. 🙄 In other words, there comes a point where it’s juvenile …

I used internal estrogen cream for a while, DH still had sex with me. The tits he has are the result of too many pies.

Actually I've always wondered about this... I use vaginal oestrogen cream but we use condoms - I always wondered how long other women gave it before having intercourse after applying it 🤔

Calliopespa · 13/12/2024 12:54

TorroFerney · 13/12/2024 11:39

You are told to avoid skin contact for an hour after youve put the gel on so he shouldn’t be handling that. I use the sachets and I dispose of them as they are sticky but a pump bottle won’t be. So he’s not completely wrong but very dramatic!

I think that’s about it: not wrong, just over dramatic about that particular bottle risk

I was wondering about this morning. Is my vaginal estrogen going to pose an issue? I could read the leaflet but can't be arsed.

Don't be daft.

You are defending his concerns without understanding the context.

He is reacting to a small risk of a miniscule amount of trace oestrogen which may or may not be on the outside of a bottle after transference to get there, in a one off contact. In fact, I am not even sure he is reacting to that. He may not have considered that, and just be reacting to it being an oestrogen bottle.

All those defending him, are defending him by referring to different contexts.

This
he might be making a big deal of it but fundamentally he’s not wrong. It’s generally accepted that there is a risk to men from this (and likewise to women who’s partners are receiving testosterone in this way) so I’m not sure why so many posters are quite so keen to laugh at him.

id agree with keeping it well out of the way of any kids in the house

It takes about an hour for it to be absorbed and the Patient Information Leaflet says not to touch men or boys for an hour after application. Also to dispose of the bottle via the pharmacy.

Handling the bottle as a one off is not a problem, but he shouldn't be doing ot regularly.

brokenwand · 13/12/2024 12:58

my DH is like this - it is truly wonderful for when i'm not 'in the mood'

Calliopespa · 13/12/2024 12:59

ForeveronMN · 13/12/2024 11:27

@Calliopespa The transfer risk is for one hour after applying.

Yes I’d have thought there was a risk for about that long.

So yes, if you’ve just hopped out of the shower and slapped it on, I suppose you should re- shower before sex. The odd occasion wouldn’t make much difference to his normal levels, but if it were a regular routine I think it might well do so.

So true! Like something you might have seen on 'Terry and June'!

🤣 yes

Scirocco · 13/12/2024 13:02

If I'm handling potentially harmful chemicals, I use these brilliant inventions called gloves. Maybe he could look them up online.

HEMole · 13/12/2024 13:04

Does he think that touching a tube of hydrocortisone cream will give him diabetes?

Presumably he's never thought about why women often have to use the oestrogen gel every day for up to 3 months before they get any effects from it.

SeaToSki · 13/12/2024 10:13

Does he know that he actually makes oestrogen in his testes (all be it in small amounts) and that scientists think that without any oestrogen, males would struggle to get a hard on and also be at high risk for cognitive disorders like parkinsons and alzheimers

Yes! Came here to say this. Men naturally have a level of circulating oestrogen and it's important for their bodies. The tiny amount that he might theoretically absorb from a bit of oestrogen gel on his finger would be negligible. He's an idiot.

Ponderingwindow · 13/12/2024 13:24

We can’t put medication containers in our recycling. Im not sure why, but my guess is risk to the workers in the processing facility. If that is true, he may have a point.

Mamma3456 · 13/12/2024 13:25

housethatbuiltme · 13/12/2024 11:36

Estrogen used in high levels in medication (especially since the introduction of hormonal contraceptives) is urinated out into the water supply and has had a huge ecological effect on the sex balancing of species (which adapt naturally be we have seen big shifts) and things like increasing gynecomastia in men... its in the bloody water and environment so touching a bottle will do fuck all. I also bet these men expect many woman to be on hormonal contraception for their benefit (since many men think not getting pregnant is purely a woman's job).

Sounds like fragile male ego.

I was going to say similar - oestrogen is already in drinking water and is probably having some impact on males. The basis of his fear is correct but panicking over the outside of a single bottle is ridiculous.

Lemonadeand · 13/12/2024 13:31

🤣 what a buffoon.

Wonderi · 13/12/2024 13:31

He sounds like an absolute idiot who needs to stop believing everything he reads on SM.

Does he genuinely believe that the manufacturers, delivery workers, pharmacists and doctors are all female?

It’s one thing to believe it yourself but then to repeat this to his children is absolutely awful.

Surely you would teach them not to touch any medication that isn’t theirs.

There are a hell of a lot more dangerous medications than oestrogen.

Has he also done this with paracetamol?
Does he also do this with every cleaning product that is brought into the house too?

Deathraystare · 13/12/2024 13:36

Tell him he is one big TIT!

The way he is behaving will not be good for your children.

I thought the exact same thing and then read this 😂 Big heaving realistic silicone ones ! I’m sure Temu would have some.

This thread has made my night OP 😂
