to think this won't give my husband tits?

My H was about to go downstairs so I asked him to put my empty oestrogen gel bottle in the recycling.

He leapt back, and cried ' Aaargh! Aargh! I can't touch that! That is dangerous to me and the boys!' and ran down the stairs.
My sons says he has now told them they must never touch these bottles, not even if they get knocked onto the floor, as they are very dangerous for men and boys.

AIBU to think this is a compete over-reaction? There might be a small amount of trace oestrogen on the outside of the bottle, I guess, but such a teeny tiny amount as a one off is surely not going to make any man grow tits?

I thought your opening line was a euphemism.

Estrogen used in high levels in medication (especially since the introduction of hormonal contraceptives) is urinated out into the water supply and has had a huge ecological effect on the sex balancing of species (which adapt naturally be we have seen big shifts) and things like increasing gynecomastia in men... its in the bloody water and environment so touching a bottle will do fuck all. I also bet these men expect many woman to be on hormonal contraception for their benefit (since many men think not getting pregnant is purely a woman's job).

Sounds like fragile male ego.

You are told to avoid skin contact for an hour after youve put the gel on so he shouldn’t be handling that. I use the sachets and I dispose of them as they are sticky but a pump bottle won’t be. So he’s not completely wrong but very dramatic!

Lilactimes · 13/12/2024 11:40

This thread has made me laugh A LOT! 😂😅

Loloj · 13/12/2024 11:44

One of the most hilarious posts I’ve read in MN 🤣🤣🤣 - what an over-reaction!

Your DH better stop drinking tap water pronto!

How is he going to get any gel on himself by picking up an empty bottle? The gel is contained in the bottle and it only comes out if you press the nozzle, which is covered with a cap. There won't be any gel on the outside of the bottle.

Alifefulloflemons · 13/12/2024 11:46

He sounds like a tit!

Ohshutupalan · 13/12/2024 11:47

He sounds like a hoot.

I felt like getting an emergency delivery of fake breasts and putting them on him overnight. Then he could really freak out when he woke up. 😁

He was probably overreacting in a joke, my husband started doing this after he hit 70.
😁

Moier · 13/12/2024 11:52

Before it was banned in the UK l was on Danazol for Endometriosis... main side effect was enlarged clitoris.. l got an hoarse voice.. grew facial hair.. obviously because of the male hormones in it..
But l found your husbands comment so bloody funny.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

bifurCAT · 13/12/2024 11:53

Tell him his moobs can't get any bigger than they already are, so why worry?!

MrsEmmelinePankhurst · 13/12/2024 11:53

Loving this thread 😂

and thank you @SelfCareBear for introducing me to the wonderful term “mantrum”. 😂

Moveoverdarlin · 13/12/2024 11:55

He’s joking! But it would make a very good sitcom episode. The one where Rodney drank Raquel’s oestrogen and starting drinking Chardonnay in the Nags Head, whilst flicking his hair back seductively.

Calliopespa · 13/12/2024 10:54

I think in reality it probably absorbs quite quickly into your blood stream.

But if I’m honest, if I were a guy, I probably wouldn’t prod round in a freshly oestrogeled vagina too often…

Vaginal estrogen cream isn't the same as the transdermal Oestrogel. The dosage is tiny with the vaginal cream, but tbf I wouldn't be applying it before sex anyway and it's his choice whether or not to wear a condom.

samarrange · 13/12/2024 11:59

FFS. This is oestrogen, right? Not Novichok?

Also, is there a warning on the bottle? Or does he think that it's been deliberately left off, as part of the cOnSpIrAcY tO dEpOpUlAtE tHe PlAnEt?

RaceyMaisy · 13/12/2024 12:01

His biggest concern should be that he is a tit !!

ScarlettSunset · 13/12/2024 12:07

In my instruction leaflet, it just says if the gel comes into contact with a man or child they should wash the area with soap and water.
I wouldn't even think about any issues with touching the bottle, but I'd probably suggest washing hands afterwards. But I'd wash my own hands afterwards too anyway.

Mipil · 13/12/2024 12:13

It’s a bit of on overreaction on his part but I don’t know why everyone is mocking him quite so much. You should wear gloves when applying it to someone else. He is correct to be cautious. Although maybe not the squealing and recoiling but 😂 No one would laugh at him if he accidentally ingested a contraceptive pill and was concerned.

I am 100% with him for telling your DC never to touch the bottle (assuming they are children 😂). Secondary exposure to tiny amounts of testosterone or oestrogen gel from a parent’s skin or hair has caused precocious puberty, gigantism, increased bone age, and gynaecomastia in children. It’s a drug. A drug absorbed through the skin. I wouldn’t want my DC touching it.

Tell him you've googled and it says he may get the odd period but not enough to cause the manopause menopause , so not to worry ..

Threewheeler1 · 13/12/2024 12:32

😂
I'd support you having a bit more fun out of this OP, I feel like he deserves it!
Have you told him how much you love his 'curves' lately?... 😁

GymBergerac · 13/12/2024 12:40

I'm trying not to laugh because clearly he's a wally who needs to get a grip on reality..... But it's a little bit funny.... 😂
My ex used to insist that I hid my (unused) sanitary protection in a drawer in the bedroom where it couldn't be seen or found because it was 'dirty and disguating'..... 🙄

HongKongFinish · 13/12/2024 10:23

He's acting like a cunt, so he could probably do with some .

Ahaha
