DH is away this weekend, a few hours away, and I have a chilled day planned with DD tomorrow, lunch, seeing friends, dinner out over the weekend...

Just woken up with a stomach gurgling like a dying whale and the natural instinct to sprint to the loo...did I make it? Yes...and no....blessed with explosive diarrhoea and projectile vomiting. I've never had to chose if it's sick or poop ends up on the floor (or wall)😭 retched so hard I wet myself too 😩 DD is emetophobic so I can't even ask her to cradle me lovingly while I hug the toilet.

Anyone have anything amusing/ boring/ fascinating to keep my mind off round two occurring??

Oh My God that sounds awful, poor you. My friend had a similar experience - had to run to be sick suddenly and managed to hit her face on the toilet seat and give herself a black eye! So be careful 🙂

Hopethisendswell · 13/12/2024 02:07

I didn't mean to laugh...that must have been awful! I'll be super careful 😅

I hope your friend was ok xx

macap · 13/12/2024 02:12

you definitely have my sympathy OP.

Me and DP were meant to be going to a Christmas market last week, a very very rare day together, only for me to suffer the same fate as you have!

my DD is also an emet so just another layer of fun!

BeNavyCrab · 13/12/2024 02:14

Sounds like it might be norovirus to me. It's particularly awful when you don't know which end to put over the loo. I suggest a large bowl you can take and use whilst on the throne. Don't forget to drink fluids when you can and you might need to take some rehydration sachets, if you are constantly ill. I've had cholera when overseas and dehydration can lead some really wacky delirium, so be careful. Not really got anything funny to say about it but sending you a massive hug.

Hopethisendswell · 13/12/2024 02:21

Oh no @macap ! Typical isn't it?! Hope you're feeling better now and somehow managed another go.

DD just came in to see if I was ok...she was pale and shaky, but was really sweet and brought me some water and crackers. Started watching TV in bed until my tummy rumbled ominously...she said I could text her when it was "all clear " 😅

Oh dear ! I hate D&V always end up crying which makes it worse .. if it makes you feel any better I'm currently awake , had an operation earlier this afternoon and now that the morphine has worn off I'm in agony and can't sleep, so browsing mumsnet .
Hope you start feeling better soon :)

Hopethisendswell · 13/12/2024 02:28

Thanks @BeNavyCrab I've strayed from the mumsnet usual of the salad/ mixing bowl and opted for our tried and tested ancient tupperware tub. Wide enough to be practical, but narrow enough to flush out well in the loo before washing out.
Unfortunately it was shoved down the back of the hot water tank on my first trip!
Dd has text and asked if I want puppy pads down on the floor in the bathroom for next time...I'm wondering if she'll stick one to the opposite wall with a target and point system...

Oh @MummytoaMiracle01 sending massive hugs xxx can they give you anymore painkillers? I hope a wonderful, kind nurse comes along soon with something soothing xx

Hildabaggins · 13/12/2024 02:32

Oh no, poor you! That sounds grim.

I can’t sleep tonight. I have no idea what’s going on. I was so tired earlier that I fell asleep reading and woke myself up when I dropped my book. But now I can’t sleep 😩

Anonycat · 13/12/2024 02:36

Sympathy to ill people.

i had a nightmare (i often do) and woke up screaming. Now scared to go back to sleep as i sense a continuation lurking.

Now I have visions of her marking a target on them and scoring you on your aim!

She sounds really sweet and caring despite her being challenged by it. I don't have a phobia but I really struggle with people being sick and smells. I invariably end up adding to the mess by being sick myself and have nerve damage causing incontinence. So I get the leaking at both ends problem. We have a dedicated bowl that used to be the baking bowl. Funnily enough it's been retired from its first purpose! 😂😂

AlmostAJillSandwich · 13/12/2024 02:41

Oh Op, and Mummy to a miracle, you both have my sympathies Flowers
I had one awful night a few years back where it was both ends, i'd never been so ill. I got in the shower, which is in the bath, and i got stuck there as i couldn't physically stand up and attempting it made me so nauseous and light headed.
I had a lot of cleaning to do that night.....

mumwithallthebooks · 13/12/2024 02:43

Oh gosh @Hopethisendswell that sounds pretty grim. Hope it passes quickly and you can rest. I've got endo and adeno related pain so treated myself to the latest episode of Wolf Hall to pass the time!

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 13/12/2024 02:43

You have my sympathies. I had this recently and elected to shit in the bog while projectile vomming into the bath. They are mercifully close. I improved the second time round by selecting the mop bucket.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 13/12/2024 02:44

So sorry you’ve been through the wars

I remember pooping on the toilet and being sick in the sink thankfully close by

every time I felt the gurgling I had to sprint cos I’ve missed before.

bless my husband he matter of factly stripped the bed fresh sheets and cover (thank the lord for spares.) found it it was norovirus doing the rounds felt drained for weeks after. This was last year.

now I’m awake as I’m under the weather and slept earlier after the danger zone now wise awake. Will nod of at about 5.30 most likely and back up again at 7

Dita73 · 13/12/2024 02:52

I think you’re amazing to be so upbeat. I have terrible emetophobia and this is my absolute worst nightmare. People don’t believe me when I say I’d rather die than be sick but it’s true. Your daughter must be terrified. When I was a kid my mum used to get a lot of migraines and my bedroom was next to the bathroom. I’d hear her go in there and I knew what was going to happen and I’d be trying to sleep with my fingers in my ears! I really do hope you feel better soon

Hopethisendswell · 13/12/2024 02:57

Which book @hildabaggins ?
hope the pain eases up soon @mumwithallthebooks and you get some rest @Anonycat nightmares are the worst.
Thank you everyone else for your tales, I feel less alone.
@BeNavyCrab she absolutely would set up a target 😂 probably the kind you get on a shooting range with a head silhouette!

OP posts:
Hopethisendswell · 13/12/2024 03:06

She is dealing with it pretty amazingly tonight @Dita73 So proud of her. Sometimes she faints too, so I'm glad she didn't feel she had to hang around. It's something she's working on (having that boundary to say "I care, but I can't be here right now"). I'm next to the bathroom otherwise I'd never had made it, I would have had to have sprinted past the stairs which would have been a whole other story.

I'm I the only person who doesn't clean under their toilet cistern 😱(observations from round two and three)

Your DH is a keeper @sevenwondersofthewoo hope you feel better soon x

Boozysoozy1 · 13/12/2024 03:11

Poor you! Hope it passes soon 🤞
im up as I had a tooth out earlier in the week and am in so much pain I can’t sleep. Sat with frozen peas trying to get it to stop hurting so I can be up at 6 for work
Not sure which I’d prefer of our situations (less cleaning up with a toothache though!)

Allthehorsesintheworld · 13/12/2024 03:39

You have my sympathy OP, it sounds awful and very like Norovirus.
Sympathies to everyone else ill or recovering.
Im just awake because I suffer from insomnia, often go through the night without sleeping.

MaggieBsBoat · 13/12/2024 04:02

Oh dear you have my sympathies OP and all! I am sat here with my DD who also has the dreaded lurgie.

I got suddenly sick once at an airport. I spent over an hour in a toilet, trying to alternate which end of my body was over the bowl. It was Christmas time and the airport was rammed. I’m feeling shame and horror even now years on thinking about it.

Compash · 13/12/2024 04:07

I heard this described as 'the human Catherine Wheel'... 😂 I'm laughing at the term, not you - you have my every sympathy, as does everyone not feeling well tonight! 🤗

This will get better, you won't always feel like this! Hang in there!
