Apparently putting a Greggs in the "poshest" town in the coutry is akin to 'putting a sex shop in a senior school'! FFS........

'Like a sex shop in a school': How Britain's poshest town feels about Greggs

Among old cottages, a Tudor watchtower, a cheese shop, and two boarding schools, Greggs has arrived in the upmarket market town of Bruton, Somerset. Locals have mixed opinions

So are their tuna crunch baguettes. One of the very few places not to contaminate tuna with evil cucumber.

This woman is living in the dark. She’ll be enlightened soon by a steak bake.

I came to say this. Greggs is the only place I'll eat a tuna/bread product

User364837 · 10/12/2024 19:56

Did anyone else think this was going to be about Gregg Wallace? (And came on to say yes I think he is that bad 😆)

mondaytosunday · 10/12/2024 19:57

I'm a type 1 diabetic and on a recent trip to Durham felt a low coming on and Greggs was to hand. I've normally avoid it like the plague but I was desperate. Wow! What a revelation! My god! I got a donut for my low (yummy), got a sausage roll for later (delish) and some white chocolate millionaire shortbreads (so good). I am converted.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/12/2024 18:59

She’s not had one of their ham and cheese baguettes.

They have PERFECTED the ham to cheese ratio.

It’s practically wizardry.

OMG yes! I rarely eat bread, but when I do I'd rather have one of these than anything!

Crazybaby123 · 10/12/2024 19:50

This is hilarious. Although, I do think the Greggs storefront is a bit cheap looking, they should do a fancy store front using duck egg blue and straw boater yellow especially for fancy towns. And call it Gregorys.

OMG they should absolutely do this!

It would go down a storm, think of all the publicity!!

I haven’t eaten from Greggs in years as the one local to me inexplicably shut down. I always found that everything had a very distinct ‘Greggs’ flavour which I didn’t like very much, similar to how I find all Lidl chocolate and biscuits have the same ‘Lidl’ flavour. It’s hard to describe.

VegTrug · 10/12/2024 20:01

That is most definitely not the most poshest town in the country….! 😂

SabrinaThwaite · 10/12/2024 20:02

Crazybaby123 · 10/12/2024 19:51

How does he remain so slim then??

Because even a daily steaky bake can’t work miracles on a Haunted Pencil.

Topseyt123 · 10/12/2024 19:47

She needs to try their vegan sausage rolls.

They are disgusting. Sooooo disappointed.

AtmosAtmos · 10/12/2024 20:04

I’m sure if there is no custom Greggs will close. Or it will be absorbed into the street and be very popular - my guess is the latter.

Maybe they’ll do a posh service for her?

JRM uses my local Greggs when he's in the constituency. Keynsham must be posh.

Anothernamechane · 10/12/2024 20:08

Greggs will have done their homework on this and worked out there's a demand for it. In my town we have two large sit down Greggs, one of which also does a roaring trade in Uber Eats. We are very non-U

I suspect that the locals have designated it as such because I wouldnt have described it that way either!

the Halloween Jaffa doughnut is one is the best things I have ever eaten

if only Greggs would bring this back it would change her opinion

Their tuna sandwiches are my favourite. So much tuna.
Yum yums absolutely divine.
Belgian buns are my husband's favourite thing.
Quick, efficient service. Good value.

MullersCorner · 10/12/2024 20:18

She’ll change her tune once she gets a hot baguette and a caramel custard doughnut down her.

The last time I visited Bruton (my grandparents live there), I heard a resident pronounce the town’s name with a French accent and it turned my stomach.

There's me thinking it was wallace

😂who WOULD be a sex pest in a school!

ClementineChurchill · 10/12/2024 20:20

Also here for the tuna crunch. I had no idea there were so many of us. (I don’t have a problem with cucumber so I also like the Pret tuna baguette but Greggs is such better value).

TiredCatLady · 10/12/2024 20:25

Bruton, the poshest town in the country? HA HAAHAHHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA!

They actually do a pop-up Greggs champagne bar in Fenwick in Newcastle from time to time Grin

There's always a demand for Gregg's no matter what the likes of this silly woman think. Their food is both decent and decently priced. I wouldn't want to eat there all the time but I do enjoy the occasional vegan sausage roll - I'm not a vegan I just like them - and their sausage, beans and cheese melts. Oh my, they are very heaven when the mood takes me.

We have a Gregg's and a Gails (newly opened) in my town. I'm far more likely to pop into the former.

fivebyfivebuffy · 10/12/2024 20:28

We have a Greggs outlet
Not one complaint when that appeared

ThisAquaCrow · 10/12/2024 20:33

Remember when Safeway stores were all shut and taken over by either Waitrose or Morrisons?
Ex hubby fancied himself as lord of the manor in our crappy little midlands town and was OUTRAGED when Morrisons moved in rather than Waitrose 😆

We have a Greggs outlet too. It's so cheap and often it's buy one pack and get one free.

We got an Asda in our Safeway, much pearl clutching from the monied lot!
