Apparently putting a Greggs in the "poshest" town in the coutry is akin to 'putting a sex shop in a senior school'! FFS........

As a child who grow up there it's not posh...where I live now is posher and more touristy and we got a Greggs.

I agree with the PP who said that some these snobs would rather have a ghost town than anything they deem "common". Man cannot live by artisnal sourdough bread alone....sometimes we need yum yums too!

They would soon be moaning when their property prices plummet because no one wants to live there due to a lack shops and amenities.

A local guy has been winding up the blue rinse busy bodies this week telling them that Homebase is becoming a lap dancing club.

Greggs is not bad at all, and Bruton is snobby beyond belief. I'm not far from there but give me a mixed community any day (and we have both Greggs and 2 artisan bakeries)

We have an Asda and M and S in the same street - seems to work really well for both retailers

Same here, plus lidl and Waitrose share a car park - people do the bulk of their shopping in Lidl then nip into Waitrose for the stuff Lidl doesn't sell and to pick up their prescriptions and free coffee (to drink with their cheap Lidl pastries) i follow others moving their cars across (lazy I know!)

I live in Cheshire and it's definitely not posh! But we do have a Greggs and Costa 😀

I don't agree with the comparison, but not wanting yet another chain store in a town I have some sympathy with.

Greggs would not be first on my list to be able to restrict though. McDonalds would top the list.

I live in the next town from Bruton and am very happy to have a chavvy Greggs on one of my regular routes. Bruton is getting too big for it’s boots and needs taking down a peg. There is NOTHING there except that bloody gallery. And now a Greggs 😊

This is hilarious. Although, I do think the Greggs storefront is a bit cheap looking, they should do a fancy store front using duck egg blue and straw boater yellow especially for fancy towns. And call it Gregorys.
