To be glad America’s best-known practitioner of youth gender medicine is being sued?

I hope this leads to less, maybe zero medication or surgery on anyone under 18 in the USA and with luck, also leads to gender questioning people being given effective, holistic mental health support so they can be happy with themselves instead of resorting to surgery, which does not seem to work.

(To be clear I am in no way glad someone had to go through this hell and feel they had no recourse but to sue a doctor they should have been able to trust)

You are being very far from unreasonable

She’s an absolute ghoul

ByMerryKoala · 09/12/2024 17:20

Good. This is the inevitable outcome of recklessly experimenting on children but, fuck me, how on earth has it taken this long?

Truly, how that has not been investigated as child abuse I will never know

It was obvious this would happen. These poor people have been mutilated and experimented on. My heart goes out to them all.

YABU for posting this in AIBU when you could have put it in Sex and Gender. Plenty of us have that topic hidden for a reason.

I have the Middle East hidden but I don't go on AIBU threads about the ME trying to police them. 🤷‍♀️ I just click the minus button on the right on active threads on any I don't want to see. Now you've posted, you're going to keep getting pulled back to this thread via notifications.

Disagree. The more a light is shone on this shot and more people become aware of what’s been happening, the better for us all

Helleofabore · 10/12/2024 13:03

I believe that the law group is one that is now specialising in these cases. They are four fathers at the moment, they may have to expand. The indications are that once one of these cases are successful, that there will be a flood. I believe there is 20 detransitioner specific cases in various stages across the world waiting to go through right now.

ByMerryKoala · 10/12/2024 13:03

What about the maiming of children through experimental medicine is specifically related to sex and gender?

If children who were asthmatic had been treated to the same shoddy and damaging malpractice, would you expect it to remain on the asthma board?

And you should be mature enough to have the impulse control to scroll on past. But perhaps the point is to shame posters who are reading or posting?

Skyrainlight · 10/12/2024 13:11

I'm so pleased she is being sued. I read a few threads on the detransitioning reddit sub last night and it's just so sad. Those poor children who didn't know the consequences and were given no advice.

Didn't the title give you a clue that this subject would not be of interest to you?

Why did you bother opening and posting on it?

What reason are you wanting to not know about the sterilosation and mutilation of children?

SinnerBoy · 10/12/2024 13:16

@oatmy

Why did you simply ignore it and not post here?

What do you have against defending the rights of women, girls and children exactly?

The original comment was about how Susie Green, former head of Mermaids, took her son, on his 16th Birthday, abroad, to be castrated.

I consider this to be a horrific crime.

Though stating facts about that has been deleted 🤷‍♀️

Just a pity this 'doctor/butcher' wasn't stopped earlier.

UrsulasHerbBag · 10/12/2024 13:31

This is an appalling situation and it has always only been a matter of time before they were sued. I remember about 4/5 years ago and a lot of people saying that the barbaric testing on children would only start to be curbed when the law suits started rolling in. I hope with all my heart that this medical scandal is on the way to being over and then we can start picking up the pieces and finding better support for those affected.

WomensSports · 10/12/2024 13:31

I find it cowardly that the terribly offended won't actually discuss what they find so offensive about my suggesting that gender-based medicine is problematic at the moment and that a new care model needs to be developed that actually helps people. Don't they want to help people?! If not, why not? People supporting this need to consider why the terminally offended amongst them are so intent on shutting down discussion of the flaws in the current medicalised model.

AsWithGlad · 10/12/2024 13:32

The links don’t work for me. Perhaps the Economist has decided to withdraw the article.
