To be glad America’s best-known practitioner of youth gender medicine is being sued?

I hope this leads to less, maybe zero medication or surgery on anyone under 18 in the USA and with luck, also leads to gender questioning people being given effective, holistic mental health support so they can be happy with themselves instead of resorting to surgery, which does not seem to work.

(To be clear I am in no way glad someone had to go through this hell and feel they had no recourse but to sue a doctor they should have been able to trust)

YABU for posting this in AIBU when you could have put it in Sex and Gender. Plenty of us have that topic hidden for a reason.

Oh bless you, thinking you are so important you get to police where people post!

Not unreasonable at all, these monsters should be in prison.

The links don’t work for me. Perhaps the Economist has decided to withdraw the article.

this works

Unusual for the Economist to cover a story like that in so much detail. It does not make for an easy read.

Thank you, @kittykarate .

edit: I need an account to read it, though.

@MrBungle ’s link works for the whole article. Thank you!

@oatmy no doubt has not gone to the hassle of reading the whole thing...

I wonder what that reason might be.

JusteanBiscuits · 11/12/2024 11:11

of course it won't lead to young people being given the mental health support they need. It won't increase funding. Suitable, supportive help is desperately needed.

I could not agree more that it’s needed and soon. Can’t help but think psychotherapy is cheaper than the endless consultations ending with breast removal though.
