OK, then my favourite Christmas song is mince pies. It's not a song, but it's Christmassy.

Good choice Master!

Hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. The Plastic Paddy anthem for arseholes who only go out drinking twice a year and then try to sing along to it.

*former barmaid 😁

This has put it much better than I did!

Love it. My favourite followed by the not Christmas but comes out every Christmas East 17.

Hate that one. Particularly hate the pathetic attempt to grab the Christmas market by jingling a few bells at the end.

MasterBeth · 08/12/2024 19:12

People wrongly calling it a Christmas song doesn't make it a Christmas song.

Listen to it. How is it a Christmas song?

Neither was "Stop The Cavalry" but irlt's become known as a Christmas song. It happens 😃

DemonicCaveMaggot · 08/12/2024 19:25

I can't stand it. The only song I hate more is 'All I want for Christmas' by Mariah Carey. I even prefer The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins and the Skoal Dip Song to either of those, and I only got through The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins by gritting my teeth and using great determination.

The Skoal Dip Song is quite catchy though.

CurlewKate · 08/12/2024 19:12

No. It's a fantastic song but if you listen to the words how can it possibly be a Christmas song? Or ever sung by children?

Because the bells are ringing out for Christmas Day?

ShortColdandGrey · 08/12/2024 19:30

My fave Christmas songs:

  1. Fairytale Of New York - Kirsty & Shane
  2. Last Christmas - Wham
  3. The Power of Love - FGTH
  4. Stay Another Day - East 17
  5. Merry Christmas - Ed Sheeran/Elton John
Dramatic · 08/12/2024 19:39

I'd say it's in my top 10, my top 5 would be:

The Power of love
Step in to Christmas
I wish it could be Christmas Everyday
Merry Xmas Everybody
Band Aid

I also don't give a crap that TPOL isn't technically a Christmas song, it is to me.

serendipity70 · 08/12/2024 19:42

I love it on so many levels and it always makes me cry

Redglitter · 08/12/2024 19:42

Skyrainlight · 08/12/2024 19:42

I like it a lot, but it's not my fav.

Neither was "Stop The Cavalry" but irlt's become known as a Christmas song. It happens 😃

Stop the Cavalry wasn't written as a Christmas song but it was sold as one!

Wikipedia:

"The song actually had nothing to do with Christmas when I wrote it," Lewie told the Daily Express in 2005. "There is one line about [the soldier] being on the front and missing his girlfriend: 'I wish I was at home for Christmas.' The record company picked up on that from a marketing perspective, and added a tubular bell."[6]
