Love it - fave xmas song by a country mile

ScrambledSmegs · 08/12/2024 17:52

My favourite is I Believe In Father Christmas by Greg Lake. Prog-rock anti-capitalist classic.

UndeniablyGenX · 08/12/2024 17:52

It is probably my least favourite Christmas song, or perhaps joint worst with Mariah Carey's All I What for Christmas.

There's something really false about it, a sort of double-bluff sneery pretentiousness - it's a Christmas song - but the singers are calling each other names - but it's still a Christmas song.

It's even worse now they have pandered to people who don't understand British and Irish English by removing the word 'faggot'.

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2024 17:52

It is mine
But to be fair its a low bar as I hate most Christmas songs

AHFBridport · 08/12/2024 17:52

It's not my favourite favourite but I have wonderful memories of seeing Shane and Kirsty sing it live on the Pogues 1988 tour so it will always be special for me.

Love it, but it's not my favourite.

I prefer the Shakin' Stevens one.

Same Blush

StiggyZardust · 08/12/2024 17:54

Best Christmas song ever!

Itiswhysofew · 08/12/2024 17:54

This year they're all getting on my nerves, but I normally like Mariah Carey's😳

His mural in the town close to where I live & where his funeral was held. He was a regular at the pub in my village, where his parents lived and close to where he spent a lot of his childhood. UBOI for you there.

Hate it. Don't really have a favourite but I am partial to a bit of Shakey. I even like Michael Buble.

Eetzup · 08/12/2024 17:56

Nope, it's mawkish shite. And overplayed.

Tbh though I hate most Xmas songs, except Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie and Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

Grapewrath · 08/12/2024 17:56

I hate Christmas songs but make an exception for the FoNY it’s a total banger

Hatty65 · 08/12/2024 17:57

Love it - saw them live several times.

But my favourite is 'The Power of Love' by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Best lyrics ever 'I'll protect you from The Hooded Claw'...

Mercedes45 · 08/12/2024 17:58

No mention of wizard yet. My fav

Broomknobsandbedsticks · 08/12/2024 17:59

Yes it is.

I don’t hate it, but it’s not my favourite (that place goes to Shaky!)

It's one of my favourites, but not the favourite. Last Christmas is my favourite.

ETA Sorry I've no idea why I quoted you, won't let me delete.

User37482 · 08/12/2024 18:00

Love it, Dh and I like to sing/yell it at each other.

toucheee · 08/12/2024 18:00

I don’t like it at all, it sounds chavvy, for want if a better word.

Ok I 100000% agree with All I Want for Christmas.

But I don’t think FONY is pretentious, I think it’s just the anti traditional Christmas song of everything being perfect and the most wonderful time of the year.

It's my all time favourite Christmas Eve song.

My favourite
Early December - A Spaceman Came Travelling
Nearing Christmas - Driving Home For Christmas
Christmas Day song is - Mary's Boy Child

TheHateIsNotGood · 08/12/2024 18:03

It's okay, in the same league as Slade and Silent Night really.

SometimesCalmPerson · 08/12/2024 18:03

Love it

twinsufficient · 08/12/2024 18:03

It's not my favourite but it has special meaning for me as it was playing in the operating theatre as my twins were born

ShodAndShadySenators · 08/12/2024 18:06

My Christmas playlist is 79 songs long, mostly old favourites, some really old ones and a few newer ones that I've stuck on the end in the hopes I'll get used to them and they'll make me feel all Christmassy, like Boney M, Jonah Lewie and Shakin' Stevens do...

I think I've left off Fairytale of New York for now, it's not a favourite of mine (but not as bad as Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas, it just rubs me up the wrong way)
