Absolute favourite by a country mile. I’m Irish though so probably contributes to it

toucheee · 08/12/2024 18:21

Hahaha. What is it for real? I never know.

Top to toe in tailbacks.😀

Me too! The best Xmas song!

“The Christmas we get, we deserve..” such an observant piece of writing, and 49 years old this year!

Leavealightonformehey · 08/12/2024 18:25

I like it, my fave is Frankie goes to Hollywood though

Ohhhh! Makes sense 😂

FcukTheDay · 08/12/2024 18:27

It's my favourite!

noctilucentcloud · 08/12/2024 18:28

It's my favourite by a mile.

TheLittleOldWomanWhoShrinks · 08/12/2024 18:28

I'm a fan - it's not my favourite, but possibly among the ones I like most.

The piece of music that makes me feel Christmassiest is 'For unto us a child is born' from Handel's Messiah - so cheerful. Christmas starts once I've listened to that early on on Christmas Day.

Also love Christmas Wrapping, Stop the Cavalry and Joni Mitchell's River.
Edit: and yes to The Power of Love, so gloriously dramatic.

StrawberryWater · 08/12/2024 18:28

No.

Carol of the Bells and All Alone on Christmas are mine.

All Alone on Christmas is such an underrated little gem and Carol of the Bells has tons of versions and they're all good.

GingersOwner26 · 08/12/2024 18:28

It’s my favourite.

MintShaker · 08/12/2024 18:29

Hate it with a passion

BESTAUNTB · 08/12/2024 18:30

Love it, also like Johnny Mathis and Shaky.

Can’t bear the Cliff Richard ones or the Mariah one.

Classic FM has been playing the Home Alone soundtrack, which I dislike. But lots of great ones too.

emmetgirl · 08/12/2024 18:30

No. I hate all Xmas songs.

MasterBeth · 08/12/2024 18:31

MissFancyDay · 08/12/2024 17:48

No I dislike it. I prefer happy, hopeful Christmas songs.

"Fairytale" is all about hope and love in the middle of darkness - the very meaning of Christmas:

"So Happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true."

RedRiverShore5 · 08/12/2024 18:32

It's ok, best is Must be Santa, Bob Dylan, ho ho ho

NeedABabelFish · 08/12/2024 18:32

I love it! Along with:
Gaudete (Steeleye Span/Erasure)
A Spaceman Came Travelling (Chris de Burgh)
I Believe in Father Christmas (Greg Lake)
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Annie Lennox)
Carol of the Bells (Trans Siberian Orchestra)
Xmas Smile

Not a Christmas song, if you mean The Power of Love.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/12/2024 18:32

It’s my favourite with Shaky at number 2

TheEyesOfLucyJordon · 08/12/2024 18:35

Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt. Best. Love it 🥰🥰🎵🎶🎵

RabbitsRock · 08/12/2024 18:35

Love it

Leavealightonformehey · 08/12/2024 18:36

@MasterBeth Why isn’t it?

MasterBeth · 08/12/2024 18:36

I cannot believe anyone likes that Shakin' Stevens song.

toucheee · 08/12/2024 18:37

MasterBeth · 08/12/2024 18:32

Not a Christmas song, if you mean The Power of Love.

It has sort of become one after that famous advert.

MasterBeth · 08/12/2024 18:37

Leavealightonformehey · 08/12/2024 18:36

@MasterBeth Why isn’t it?

Because it isn't. It was just a hit at Christmas. What's Christmassy about it?

grannyjacob · 08/12/2024 18:37

Yes, it’s my favourite Christmas song. There’s an older man who regularly busks where I live, he was singing it the other day and somebody/himself videoed it. Not as good without the two voices but not half bad at all.
