How did he get to the UK? Could they come the same way?

fashionqueen0123 · 07/12/2024 21:27

The U.K. doesn’t really have a system like that. You can’t just sponsor a random relative. And I doubt they’d qualify for a tourist visa at the moment. I wouldn’t waste money on a lawyer. If you have money, pay for them to get out to a close safe country who will accept them .

I will advised them to go travel to another safe Muslim country

Purspectiveplease · 07/12/2024 21:33

You and your DP need to speak to a lawyer. It’s more likely that your DP will be able to sponsor them than you (assuming you’re not married). Usually refugees are “supposed” to go to the closest safe country, but that doesn’t stop them from having access to any of the other paths to immigration. Good luck to them.

They may not be Muslims.

user243245346 · 07/12/2024 21:38

Could they get to Turkey? Assuming they are not Kurds they should be safe there

Haha but you were suggesting that Malaysia is a close safe country to Syria, just a 3000 mile walk (and swim).

Plus, your comments about Muslims makes you sound a bit thick.

Because lots of Syrians are secular and don't want to live under sharia law. The rebels are extremist Muslims and most people in Syria have no appetite for that kind of life. Why on earth would they want to go to live in Saudi Arabia?

Also the family in question has a member of their family living in the UK which possibly explains why they'd rather be here than 1000s of miles in the other direction in Malaysia.

If a rebel militia rose up in the UK threatening to bring in the Inquisition, would you rather live (a) with a family member in Turkey or (b) on your own in Zambia or the Phillipines?

  1. They may not be Muslims.
  2. The family member is in the UK and wants to bring his / her mother and sisters to be safe here.

Did you just pull random words out of a dictionary to construct that sentence?

Not all Syrians are Muslim.
Not all Muslims want sharia law.

@Julia34 are you high? Your posts are painful to read.

Applying for a ‘6 month tourist visa’ isn’t as straightforward as it sounds. They would need their own funds or sponsorship, whether they plan to stay for 6 days or 6 months. They and your partner would be checked out and the authorities would potentially conclude this isn’t a ‘visit’. As there is family here and no safe prospect of returning home afterwards. The process won’t be quick either.
Once a visa has been refused it’s even harder to reapply in future.
Do seek legal advice or contact the Red Cross as they may be able to suggest other quicker avenues. Sending very best wishes. 💐

Hairyfairy01 · 07/12/2024 21:54

I fully admit i don't fully understand what is going on in Syria but I'm sorry for your partners family and I hope they get to a place of safety. I cannot even begin to imagine what they are going through.

Malaysia and Syria are both in Asia. Although, not particularly close to each other.

LoremIpsumCici · 07/12/2024 22:01

They can apply for a tourist visa and honestly say they are visiting your partner on a 6 month tourist visa. This could all be over in 6 months and they’d be safe to go back to Syria. If it isn’t then, you have 6 months to build a case with an immigration lawyer and have them file for asylum- you have to file for it from inside the U.K. anyway.

this gets them here very quickly.

Yes, they’d need proof of funds to support their stay. But once the application is in with the British consulate, the decision only takes a few days. If their accomodation is with family, that reduces the funds required.
