To think they are insane to travel in this?

Booked onto a bus trip to Birmingham a couple of months back. Travelling from South Wales. Trip was planned for today, guessed it would be cancelled due to the red/yellow weather warnings.

Apparently though, the trip is still going ahead 😬🤷‍♀️ Honestly can’t understand how the bus company are still gonna risk driving in these conditions. I’ve said I’m not taking the risk and decided not to go. Yes it’s annoying that I’ll lose my money but I’d rather have my life especially with three young children who need me.

Would you have still gone on the trip? Or am I right in thinking the bus company should have cancelled and refunded everyone or given the option to reschedule?

It isn't a typhoon. Life goes on.

BlondeFool · 07/12/2024 07:06

Surely they can't be insured if they decide to drive in a red warning? Seems crazy.

coffeesaveslives · 07/12/2024 07:07

How are they going to get out of Wales? The bridges are shut Confused

GrumpyCactus · 07/12/2024 07:07

Most of us will be fine going out as we're in yellow warning areas. However I don't see how the bus company can go ahead if they are travelling into a red warning area. They wouldn't be insured surely?

I was thinking the same, surely it would invalidate their insurance if something happened as the warnings are saying not to drive unless necessary. An Xmas shopping trip isn’t a necessity as far as I’m aware 🤷‍♀️

Apparently they are planning to take the M50 route instead 😬

Dd lives in Wales work has postponed opening so the staff can get in safely because they are in a red zone

Sprig1 · 07/12/2024 07:10

Madness. Good decision on your part.

Yes we are in South Wales and have had the red warning too hence why I’m shocked it hasn’t been cancelled and that some people are still going!

@DragonGypsyDoris they won't be insured and I hopefully if they try and drive they'll be stopped by police.

YABU to want to go to Birmingham Grin

RoamingGnome · 07/12/2024 07:15

If you're on X/Twitter put a post up about this & tag the bus company & the local police. Sounds very dangerous.

Madness in a high sided vehicle.

Missionimprobable · 07/12/2024 07:16

I'm in York and there's plans to shut the Christmas market if/when the storm hits.
It's all calm here at the moment.
I did wonder if the tourists are still planning to travel in, it would be an awful day in York if they've travelled far.
I don't blame you for not going, you don't want to end up stuck.

Rubbish, insurance cover is not automatically cancelled when the wind blows above a certain speed. In any case, some companies self-insure, which I guess you don't know.

Some people were saying the government are only doing it to cover their backs - issuing the red warning.

My response was sorry I disagree, they don’t issue these warnings lightly. 😬

I booked via someone who’s organised it so I don’t know who the bus company is

Where are they going?! Lots of Welsh people come by coach to our city to see an attraction which is closed today due to weather.

TheaBrandt · 07/12/2024 07:26

If it’s Christmas markets they are shut today here anyway. Gutting for stall
holders

I have no idea where this myth has come from but no, driving in a red warning does not invalidate your insurance.

What about people who have to get into work?! Do you think we'll all just have to drive around uninsured?

MiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 07/12/2024 07:31

What can you get in Birmingham that you can't get in Cardiff anyway?

coffeesaveslives · 07/12/2024 07:32

@DragonGypsyDoris I didn't say it was. And I'm well aware that companies self-insure.

But if you choose to travel in a red warning when the government has specifically told you not to, you'll quickly find yourself being sued if your bus gets damaged and your passengers are injured or killed. No amount of "self insurance" is going to pay for that fuck up.

DeffoNeedANameChange · 07/12/2024 07:33

You're right to make your own decision to keep yourself and your family safe. Other people have the opportunity to make their own decisions also, but if anything did happen, I think the operator would likely be held responsible.
