PassingStranger · 06/12/2024 15:17

The BBC had Matt Lucas on TV this morning. He said him and Walliams are getting together again.

Nada was trying to guess what it might be, but he said he couldn't say?
Does anyone really care?

It’ll need to be different to their older offerings. The world view has changed a lot since then and a lot of their characters and skits will not go down well if repeated today!

they get away with their old stuff because it’s old and we watch it with a lens of this was made then not now.

its not just them, a lot of older comedic and tv and musical etc works are the same

I think the opposite. People might find a comedy show unafraid to be offensive as refreshing.

It wasn't particularly my thing, but I've heard a lot of people complaining that comedy feels dead now, far too sanitised.

If you find it offensive, don't watch it.

beguilingeyes · 06/12/2024 15:29

I'm torn. I can't bear DW, but I'm very fond of Matt Lucas.

Matt Lucas would find most of us offensive as we believe in biology. Walliams is a bit creepy? Perhaps there's a market for that though.

KnickerlessParsons · 06/12/2024 15:56

I put those two in the same category as Mrs Brown's Boys.

This, you said it before I could.

ObtuseMoose · 06/12/2024 15:57

It's ok, you don't need to be interested.

jeaux90 · 06/12/2024 15:59

I think they are a couple of plonkas.
Into the Gender woo (surprisingly after Little Britain) and both creep me out.

beetr00 · 06/12/2024 16:03

neither are my cup of tea tbh and agree with @jeaux90 they "both creep me out"!!

The people complaining about comedy feeling dead and sanitised are the kind of people who'll hear a new rock band on the radio once and say rock and roll is dead. What they actually mean is 'mainstream television prefers not to feature comedians who make punching down jokes anymore' those comedians still exist, and comedians who didn't make those kinds of jokes existed back in the days when television featured a lot of punching down comedy, it's just that the balance has now swapped over. It's like complaining I don't hear hair metal on the radio and then saying music is dead because of it - it's just not as popular now as it once was, I can easily go and find hair metal bands online or in person!

FionnulaTheCooler · 06/12/2024 16:05

Neither of them are funny and Matt Lucas was absolutely dreadful as a presenter on Bake Off so whatever it is I won't be watching it.

medianewbie · 06/12/2024 16:05

Walliams is creepy as.
Lucas I used to like, but no longer.
Performative men who think they know better than women about everything

derxa · 06/12/2024 16:30

Is there anything laugh out loud on TV now? The only thing I ca find is Goggle Box

ThatAgileCoralBird · 06/12/2024 16:43

walliams and Lucas no thank you.

Comedy is very subjective though isn’t it. Panel shows are dated in my opinion and I’m very selective on stand up but I’ve enjoyed ami Wong, Amy Schumer and fern Brady.
I thought ‘Alma’s Not Normal’, ‘Daddy Issues’ and ‘Black Ops’ on the BBC were hilarious. Also, Fisk dick Turpin, beef, my lady Jane,

TheNimbleTiger · 06/12/2024 16:44

I think they have long since had their day.

I don’t find anything creepy about Matt Lucas. David Walliams, absolutely.

This

Planesmistakenforstars · 06/12/2024 16:48

Those people that think comedy is dead and/or sanitised, can you give an example of this please? Can you give a specific joke, or an example of a specific skit that is from Little Britain (or something else) that that would be found offensive now but you don’t think it should be?

All of this.

Exactly this.
Little Britian was basically 5 sketches of repeated storylines show after show.
Hated every single character, but particularly loathed Walliams from the outset. 🤢

Giggorata · 06/12/2024 17:05

Little Britain was indeed repetitive and also misogynistic, trying to be edgy.
I watched about the first two programmes for the shock value, I guess, but quickly became put off and bored.
I imagine it will just be more of the same, only perhaps with added TRA stuff. If people liked it once, they will watch it all over again, after all, people like Mrs Brown's Boys and sundry other comedy that I think is shit.

TulipCat · 06/12/2024 17:16

Oh what fresh hell is this? Let's hope it goes the way of the Fawlty Towers reboot, and they see that some things are best left in the past.

DatingDinosaur · 06/12/2024 17:41

Do we know when it's starting?

So I can avoid it/go out/watch something else instead Grin

hazelnutvanillalatte · 06/12/2024 17:44

DW makes me feel physically unwell, no interest in watching anything with him in it
