The BBC had Matt Lucas on TV this morning. He said him and Walliams are getting together again.

Nada was trying to guess what it might be, but he said he couldn't say?
Does anyone really care?

I put those two in the same category as Mrs Brown's Boys.
"Shouldn't be on the BBC"

Whilst Little Britain is dated and Come Fly with Me was awful, it is unfair to put them in the same bracket as Mrs Brown's Boys.

I'm not sure whether Mrs Brown's Boys was a practical joke of someone thinking enough viewers are stupid to watch anything on a Saturday evening, or one of the cast knows something about someone senior in the BBC. It is not a comedy, and bears no resemblance to the 1970s comedies people feel nostalgic for.

Oh but carrot cake carrot cake have ye any nuts was brilliant

' . . . Mike kapalski? '

😄

I loved all the catchphrases.

What they actually mean is 'mainstream television prefers not to feature comedians who make punching down jokes anymore' those comedians still exist, and comedians who didn't make those kinds of jokes existed back in the days when television featured a lot of punching down comedy, it's just that the balance has now swapped over.

Whats an example of a TV comedy that doesn’t have punching down in it?

unclebuck · 06/12/2024 17:54

Uuurrrghhhhh a TRA and a pervert who have blacked up repeatedly. They are grotesque and it beggars belief that they have not been 'cancelled'

agree

User820825 · 06/12/2024 17:59

Didn't Matt Lucas make a sit-com a few years ago that was excruciatingly bad?

User820825 · 06/12/2024 18:12

This was it

They both need to get in the bin and stay there.

jeaux90 · 07/12/2024 09:52

@KimberleyClark Matt Lucas is creepy too because he's one of those "kids and be born in the wrong body" assholes. Anyone telling a child this is as creepy AF.

Oh what fresh hell is this? Let's hope it goes the way of the Fawlty Towers reboot, and they see that some things are best left in the past.

Fawlty Tower reboot?

Most British comedy

Usually it's punching up at the pompous. Blackadder, dads army etc

TheBiggestMuffInCheshire · 08/12/2024 08:28

I'm stunned that they have been given another chance. Little Britain was horrendous. It was dated even at the time. The sketch about Anne, the psychiatric patient was so unbelievably disablist.
I was working in a college for kids with autism and we would get arseholes in the street going "uh, uh uh" at them which was "Anne's" catchphrase.
Hate both of them. Nasty fuckers.

Fawlty Tower reboot?

Yeah, John Cleese was talking about his plans to make another series of Fawlty Towers, but mercifully he seems to have been persuaded by the general reaction of the public that it was very much of its time and that time has passed.

beguilingeyes · 09/12/2024 16:41

TFFT. Cleese is a bit of a mess these days.

Surely nothing ever was a bad as Mrs Brown's Boys. I never watched Little Britain but I can't image anything rivaling Mrs Bs Boys.

Sorry didn't see it was a zombie. I'm still gob smacked that anything could be as bad as Mrs Bs Boys.

Mrs Brown's Boys is the best argument for abolishing the licence fee.
