Husband picks his nose and eats it

My husband works away and a few months ago on FaceTime, he was ‘discreetly’ picking his nose and it looked like he was eating it. I called him out and he kinda just laughed. Honestly, I was horrified. Then on other calls, he tried to hide his lower face but he didn’t put the camera low enough down and he whipped the bogey from nose to mouth so I know he is doing it. I feel like, why would you choose to do that right now? On our call? He’s done it a few times now and I just call him out every time. He doesn’t really say much when I call him out- just gets a bit embarrassed. We’ve been together over 20 years but I see him differently now. Maybe it’s small to some people but this has completely disgusted me. The thought of kissing him repulses me. I wouldn’t say I’m head over heels in love with him or anything but I quite like his company for the most part and we have a pretty good sex life but this has changed things. I’m so grossed out. Am I being unreasonable? Is it over?

Is it worse to eat your own bogies or swallow someone else’s sperm?

Rabbits and greyhounds, amongst others, regularly eat the unpleasant 'produce' from their own and others' bodies - it's normal.

I, however, am a human; not a dog or a rabbit.

Without wanting to project, it sounds like this is a straw on a camels back for you, OP. Often it’s the “stupid” “little” things like this that are the final nail in the coffins of dying relationships.

I don’t think YABU, either — even in isolation this is a fucking filthy habit and it would absolutely repulse me too.

I bet some people do eat earwax. I can’t say I have ever tried it (I don’t really have much, and I’m not going to suck a cotton wool bud like a lolly), but there will be somebody somewhere who has, I am sure.

I don’t think eating earwax or snot is any worse than eating a scab or biting a fingernail tbh. None of them are great habits to do in front of an audience, but I wouldn’t fart or scratch my bum in public either.

I have however sneezed during a cold, got snot on my top lip (couldn't grab a tissue quick enough to catch 😭) and swear all I could taste was the THOUGHT of snot 🤢🤢🤢 there were not enough Strepsils or Lemsip in the cupboard that could rid that feeling...urgh the thoughts came rushing back with this thread (flip you curiosity!). Germs in general give me the ick (funny to some, but awful when children are ill as can be a real issue and cause inner rage if catch it 😭)...I mean, it's waste, there's proteins in pee which can be processed to re-drink, its still waste in its true form 🤢

So no, I don't believe everyone (or even a majority) does it. I can acknowledge people who pick their nose and hopefully wipe in a tissue or flick into a bush or something, but dang, I hope they wash their hands/antibac at first opportunity (germy ick!) 🤢

It's really not like eating your own shit as a PP commented. Your nose and throat are very much connected, and so you all swallow snot whether you like it or not. Whilst it isn't the same as actively picking your nose and eating it, the snot is pretty much going down the same way. Not a ENT specialist, or medically trained, but I'm sure it might even go in your mouth 🤣.

Scabs (always spit any hairs out though)
The crunchy yellow sleep from my eyes

I also drink the fluid from a blister (sweet and salty all at once) and sometimes eat the stuff from my blackheads.

I also like to rub my nose and chin and sniff my fingers (there is a strange but oddly satisfying cheesy smell that I get from those areas only)

I have done most of this since I was at prinary school. Although I always knew to keep it a 'secret', even as a young child, because it was 'repulsive'.

I just don't get easily grossed out by my own body. I was always very curious about how it functions. The cheesy chin finger sniffing is mostly habit now and a form of self soothing I guess? I really do believe more of us do this sort of thing than we care to admit.

As a PP pointed out, women will happily swallow a mouthful of sperm so why not your own nasal secretions?
