I think it's one of the greatest tragedies of our times that the Shake 'n' Vac woman never (as far as we know) got together romantically with Barry Scott from the Cillit Bang adverts Grin

They would've been the Kylie and Jason of the cleaning world!

Some advert songs/jingles live in my head for years - even decades - after they've stopped showing them; and I find myself randomly singing them! Like these:

Horrifying to think that there's a whole generation who don't know that they drink Un Bongo in The Congo.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 03/12/2024 23:40

And the Tango man too. I said to a teenager the other day about Trump looking like he's been Tango'd and they just looked at me blankly. 😭

I love the cosy/creepiness of the cravendale Barry biscuit boy ads. His parents just baked him a new head when it fell off.

I loved that Guinness ad; knew a cameraman who worked on it.

Otherwise, probably Kia Ora or Um Bongo. The jumping rocks in the latter and the random choice of crows as threats to orange juice in the former. Ribena should also get a mention for the super cute 'Woo!' at the end 😁

On the darker side I was always fairly mesmerised, by dint of morbid curiosity, to the 'Natural Born Smoker' and AIDS adverts.

cherrysodas · 04/12/2024 00:52

The British airways ad with the face. All those people marching across the sand making up the different parts of the face.

Dunnoburt · 04/12/2024 04:10

It's got to be "The red car and the blue car had a race......".......Milky Way......also quite like the Arla advert where the farmer sings "everybody's free" really out of tune!

PissedOffAtApologistsForSA · 04/12/2024 04:15

@AtomHeartMotherOfGod for me my rabbit hole of morbid curiosity was Apaches, and those Protect and Survive adverts (which were never actually shown on tv but you can find them on youtube)

Given the reaction to the new Jaguar ad, I'd love to see the reaction this 1993 ad would get nowadays.

Ohhh this is the one that first came to mind for me. I loved it and it was when I discovered Velvet Underground (late to the party as always). Great ad.

I used to love the real fire one where a dog a cat and a mouse all sit together basking in the warmth
Long before AI it apparently took a lot of takes and some well trained animals

And a lot of mice? :)

Whatbloodysummer · 04/12/2024 06:36

Rutger Hauer advert (in the 80's) Guinness advert where you just see him, holding a fancy cocktail, then he says ''Don't worry, it's only a nightmare''

At no point in the advert is Guinness even mentioned. They'd done such a good job of associating Rutger with Guinness, they didn't need to !

That's what I call a fantastic ad campaign !

anon2022anon · 04/12/2024 06:53

Always loved 'Ive wasted away! I can't feel my legs Sal...'
super noodles

the80sweregreat · 04/12/2024 07:13

The smash one with the aliens !
( 70s)
It was funny and the rat line ' for mash get smash ' was genius.

the80sweregreat · 04/12/2024 07:13

Tag not rat

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/12/2024 07:36

I still like this old AA advert from the 80s.

snowynight · 04/12/2024 11:32

I was also fond of the we buy any car ad - an absolute banger:

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/12/2024 11:32

Me too. He was a fantastic dancer.

Divebar2021 · 03/12/2024 22:45

I don’t know if anyone else will remember it but it was a car advert and all you saw was a couple dancing the Argentine tango over a hip hop track

m.youtube.com/watch?v=iFPgJDkbchQ

I loved that advert!

Dotjones · 04/12/2024 11:57

The "Accrington Stanley - 'oo are they?" advert for milk in the 80s. I won't share the link as the child actor is a convicted murderer now.
